What impresses me even more is that Elton John just sat down at a piano and wrote this from nothing. The creative skills of musicians always seems miraculous to me.
@DefinitelyAPotato
@DefinitelyAPotato Жыл бұрын
He didn't do that at all. Quite famously Elton John doesn't write the songs- neither the music nor lyrics for this song were written by Elton John at all.

So they just gave him a songwriting credit for nothing did they? Try again.

Elton did the music. He famously had a writer for all the lyrics.

@@DefinitelyAPotato you are very mistaken. Elton John wrote the music and Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics.
@motorradtyp
@motorradtyp 6 ай бұрын
As per the songwriting credits for this song, Elton John and Davey Johnstone composed the music and Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics. Presumably the piano part was all Elton. ----- BUT ----- The piano part that is being played here by Joel is not what Elton John plays. Joel has arranged this piece to follow the vocals and added his own rhythm bits which are absolutely flavourful and is more complex than the original. If you were to listen to just the piano part that Elton John plays on the track, a lot of it would not even be recognisable without the vocals.

My own piano playing never went much past the difficulty level of Christmas songs, so I won't blab about things I don't know. But I had a teacher in elementary school in the 1980's and she was a high level musical conservatory pianist, she loved Elton's music. She told us about the importance of adding "feeling" to the notes. Mr Bowerman you add feeling to the notes as good as the best players I've heard in my lifetime, my teacher would highly approve of this! Btw, she played her own version of "O Canada" every morning in the style of Elton John: The soft parts would be delicate, gentle and intricate. The big parts would have bombastic flair, she added extra momentum with multiple low chord changes during the last half of the song... But softened it again near the end with the final delicate right hand high notes to finish the song. Cheers and keep up the good work my friend! People need to know this playing style is still alive with a new generation of young skilled piano players, you're an excellent representative!

Don't wish it away Don't look at it like it's forever Between you and me I can honestly say That things will only get better And while I'm away Dust out the demons inside And it won't be long before you and me run To the place in our hearts where we hide And I guess that's why they call it the blues Time on my hands should be time spent with you Laughing like children, living like lovers Rolling like thunder under the covers And I guess that's why they call it the blues Just stare into space Picture my face in your hands Live for each second without hesitation And never forget I'm your man, Mary Mary Wait on me girl Cry in the night if it helps But more than ever I simply love you More than I love life itself And I guess that's why they call it the blues Time on my hands should be time spent with you Laughing like children, living like lovers Rolling like thunder under the covers And I guess that's why they call it the blues Wait on me boy (Wait on me girl) I Want You To Cry in the night if it helps (yeah) But more than ever I simply love you More than I love life itself And I guess that's why they call it the blues Time on my hands (time on my hands) should be time spent with you Laughing like children (laughing like children), living like lovers Rolling like thunder under the covers And I guess that's why they call it the blues Laughing like children Living like lovers Elton, living like lovers And I guess that's why they call it the blues And I guess that's why they call it the blues

Would you mind replying with the general area or town in which you live? Is it in Los Angeles by chance? (That's where I am). Anyway - It looks like an inspirational place to write or rehearse covers of songs. SO HAPPY YOU LIKE ELTON JOHN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
