Accidents happen. We have to accept that. Luckily I was riding very slowly, at only 10-20kph, so there was not so much damage to me or the motorbike. The most important thing is that we are prepared for them and protected, so that we can minimise the harm they cause to us.

you have my total respect for showing this, when you are at your most vulnerable. Like you said, it could have been worse. the bike could have suffered damage and you;re in the middle of nowhere. you could have been injured cause that drop does look nasty. so relieved you are ok. the filipinos coming together to help during your time of crisis is certainly how i know Filipinos are. Wow, you are very lucky you survived that accident but most awesome story are those locals who helped you, comfort you and pulled your bike out of the creek. Not only that when you went further down another local drove your bike on the treacherous part of the road. Hey brother, I am an American living here in Mindanao, also. Laak area. Many inexperienced riders are afraid of the front brake simply because if too much of it is applied too quickly it can cause bad things to happen. Many often warn against the front brake as if it were evil, but going downhill, especially steep and slippery downhills, the rear brake is the enemy! It will cause your rear tire to attempt to pass your front one! What you were describing sounds exactly like you had applied rear brake to which the bike responded by turning sideways at which point you released it momentarily only to feel the need to slow down again by reapplying it causing the rear tire to kick this way or that. What you should do in that situation is either apply no brakes and use you balance and body english to stay on the path at too high a speed, AND/OR gently apply the front brake only maintaining fine motor control over it so as to avoid locking up the wheel completely. Either way you are in a state of controlled chaos which is the entire spirit of all off road motorcycling. It doesn’t help that you are on a strictly on road motorcycle, so I would suggest getting something like a Honda CRF150L of equivalent or even step-up to the 300 which will navigate those conditions much easier and give equal on road performance. Love the channel, and maybe I will see you out there at some point.

I am not entirely sure what happened in the moment but it was when I accelerated that the fishtailing happened. As you say, a state of controlled chaos... I chose that motorbike because 95% of my riding is on roads, and I think with the right tires it might be a better compromise. Let's see! But for sure my inexperience was a large factor here.
