This was divine. So comforting and cozy. It’s starting to get quite cold here in Australia and while I’m lying snug in bed, watching this was so lovely and just the right thing to settle in with and watch, so soothing. Lauren Elkin’s Flâneuse is an incredible read, just the right balance of intriguing while academic, I really hope you enjoy it! I came across it whilst writing my dissertation on women walking in early C20th London; it’s an especially interesting read if you have any interest in Virginia Woolf. If you enjoy it then there’s lots more psychogeography to get stuck into, particularly about London. This was a lovely video Lucy, and what a dream day out for an English Lit grad!

I adored this. Felt like taking a trip with a friend similarly obsessed with the culture surrounding books. I'm a bookseller at Warwick Books in (you guessed it) Warwick and we hand-write reviews of books we've read and enjoyed to add a personal touch when customers are browsing through the shelves. I enjoyed Matrix a great deal last year, and it was one of the first reviews I ever wrote for the shop! I appreciated how it wasn't afraid to be poetic in earnest, and how the writing was geared towards strong female CHARACTERS rather than just STRONG female characters.

I haven't commented for a long time but I just wanted to say how much I absolutely loved this video! I used to be such a bookworm but have been really struggling to focus. Yesterday I took time to sit down and read - 450 pages and 5 or so hours later I'd read the whole book and now I feel re-inspired so definitely will be checking out these books as your preferences sound similar to mine. Also, I live in Edinburgh these days and there are some AMAZING independent book shops that have a similar vibe.

Great video! My favourite bookshop haunts in London are the MBS section in Waterstones Picadilly, Watkins, Atlantis and Treadwells, I can make a day of it going around them all on foot, I share the pain of lacking discipline around books 😬😀

I just discovered the channel and I enjoyed the video about one of my favourite bookstore. I ordered books from them before Brexit but now it’s too expensive as I live in Belgium. Now I order books sometimes from Amsterdam or sadly from Amazon. This last one does deliver books but I miss the love and the warmth that I feel when receiving their boxes. Thank you for your awesome video. Your pronounced “ Flâneur “ right. With flâneurs you just don’t say the s. They both sound the same. Congratulations on your French.

If you want some more Ruth Ozeki, I recently listened to Ruth narrate her older book A Tale for The Time Being. I read it years ago but Ruth's own narration brought it to life in a new and beautiful way. Her work is philosophical and touching, but also laugh out loud hilarious at times. Wonderful.

I have read both of the Nancy Mitford novels and enjoyed them. If you don't know much about this family, I can recommend 'The Mitford Girls' which is about the Mitford sisters and it is really fascinating how their lives turned out

(The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo was probably one of my least favorite books I actually finished reading). I always find it interesting to see what other people are reading though!
