I was going to have this surgery when I was younger, but got really scared and didn’t do it, now I am 45 and alone, and I’ve realized because of the way I looked with an under bite I didn’t think I deserved to be loved because I thought I was ugly... Start the process :). The self-esteem you will get from it can't be described. I just started the process last year with the braces and the ability to smile like normal humans (I never smiled because my teeth were displaced) is already a life changer. ANd I knew that my self esteem was low because of my teeth/jaw but I didn't knew how much it really impacted me. Not being drag down by your own image in pictures or mirrors anymore on a daily basis, is something you might have never experienced before. Braces will also make you look 10 years younger ;)

It's never too late.. I just started my journey 2 days ago. I'm on braces right now with class 2 underbite. My teeth are almost straight but want to make sure I get the perfect alignment before surgery. My orthodontist said from the day I got braces till jaw surgery recovery will take 15 months. @@gothsoulify I couldn’t. My nose was completely clogged and I remember waking up during the third night every 10 minutes because anytime I fell asleep I would suck in my lips and suffocate. I’ll never forget that night, constantly waking up in a panic gasping for air. The very next day my surgeon needed to remove elastics holding my mouth closed so that I could open my mouth wide enough to breathe

I wasn’t born with it but I got an overbite due to wearing braces around the 6th grade. The braces straightened my teeth but in turn the straight teeth made a slight underbite gap in my bite which is pretty common and why rubber bands are required during the last few visits to the orthodontist. Needless to say the rubber bands made my mouth sore and as a kid I refused to wear them, lied to my parents about wearing them so they decided to remove my braces. This in turn was the biggest mistake I ever made as my jaw continued to grow as I hit puberty. The underbite got worse and some 10 years later I eventually got the surgery in my early twenties. I recommend everyone get the surgery if they can, it improved my life exponentially.

Had upper jaw surgery 4 days ago. The first 2 days was pure hell. No two ways about it. It was horrific. Im ln day 4 now and im doing better. The swelling has decreased a bit... but still got a long way in my recovery.

Good to let it fixed. If not, it follows you all your life. I'm a 52 male, have a severe underbite (class 3) and it was never out of my mind the last 40 years being in public. I have facial hear and I try to pay attention to keep my mouth shut and my posture straight as much as possible. I feel like Cinderella going out. I can keep up appearances for some time but it's like acting. Always happy when I'm home again to relax. Hate it when somebody looks at me in profile (in bed fe). Despite of that, no plans to let it fixed in the future. It's part of my everyday life but it shouldn't be. It's some kind of messed-up self torture.

Last months I re-discovered my natural smile. My trauma started 40 years ago when I was 12, with a photo taken in profile. Now some try-outs with new photo's convinced me, I look not less than others my age. Most important is to keep my mount shut, when I'm not talking. And when I smile, to keep my upper teeth in contact with my underlip. Works great.

That’s so exciting congrats 🙌 - I started at 149 lb the night of surgery and dropped down to around 131 lb ! So I lost 18 pounds in about 6 weeks, which is when I was able to finally start to eat again! - I spit up a little blood, but didn’t throw up blood! The first couple days in the hospital I had a non-stop nose bleed though which was kinda annoying, but I just had a rag by my face the whole time! - I spent 2 nights in the hospital and left on the third day! They want to make sure you are able to get enough liquids down before they send you home, because it’s hard at the start to use the Syringe! - I used warm water and salt, along with a strong mouthwash that the hospital provided me! I would use a syringe and basically shoot the water in my mouth for the first little bit, cause you are not allowed to brush your teeth at the start! I was eventually after a few weeks able to brush, and use the light mode on a water pick ! - Activity wise, I was so drained from the 6 week liquid diet, and was still somewhat swollen and nervous, that I didn’t workout until maybe 3 months after? Maybe longer honestly! I’m pretty sure you can workout sooner than that, but I was just really cautious about it ! I did walk a lot during recovery though and used a stationary bike ! I have had 3 surgeries to remove a rare condition on my head known as nevus sebaceous. Right now I have a 9 inch scar on the side of my head that is about a centimeter wide. The recovery for me is always scary because I can’t move my shoulders or face much at all for about a month and have to sit stationary to allow my scar to heal. I have a closed bite underbite that falls completely halfway over my top teeth. I've dealt with jaw pain from ages 4/5 ish "I'm 21 now" and as puberty went on I had similar issues like you where my jaw would pull outwards making it hard to chew foods like hard meat, or gum even. Breathing was an issue as well I had serious asthma at one point and I have headaches and nerve damage in my left eyebrow. I get car sick from motion sickness which somehow connects apparently and it's been tough a lot. I'm due for surgery hopefully by the end of this month. July 6, 2022. As I'm typing this. I'm honestly ready for surgery I'm not scared for it to happen because it's long overdue basically by a year but I couldn't get it done because of covid hitting. But I like finding people who have had jaw surgeries but mine apparently is worse than yours because it shows a distinction on my face of looking slightly lopsided. But either way, you telling your personal experience means a lot considering I have slight issues about mine. I never knew so many people had to go through situations like me with this type of similar surgery. It makes me feel less alone so thank you for this. Your recovery gives me hope about mine and you look great! ❤️👍🥰😁
