I believe that’s why my CDL school always recommends to use the paper log even though digital logs are standardized. I’m using it everyday I attend school. Hopefully I can show this to an instructor as a good example

@@silentagony1019 Yeah I highly recommend using it because it can definitely save you in the long run. They didn’t teach us how to use paper logs in school I had to teach myself but best believe I’ll be using it for now on. But definitely show this video as a learning lesson.

Nah you don’t have to use it daily just because of some dude in school said so just learn it and use it when the ELD starts malfunctioning that’s the only time you need to use Log books also remember the instructors at most these schools lie about experience just to earn respect from students but we all know they’re full of 💩 they just want your money.

you can no longer use paper logs unless your ELD is malfunctioning then you can temporarily use paper logs until it is fixed

I've had my ELD freeze in the ODND line while I was driving. I made a stop at the TS went in and edited manually to reflect the miles driven then did a hard restart of the ELD and that corrected the issue. Now mine hadn't crashed out off the dash like yours did but keep that in mind if you notice the new freeze up on the wrong line.

Companies will check your csa score when hiring....the violations that you recieved may be appealed...sounds like the issues with your ELD was not intentional on your part...takes 3 years for the points to fall of but the violations will always show up when compaines check your CSA report....try to see if you can appeal the violations with DOT.

You did get CSA points. Look up online on how long they stay with you. Those do affect your chances of being hired elsewhere as they follow you and all the drivers affect the fleet's score. It's an accountability system and actually pretty decent, it gives us drivers legs to stand on and to demand that we comply with all laws. If terminated because you were forced to violate the law, there is recourse for that because we are subject to getting points.

Facts, I was gonna say something similar. I been trucking for 10 years now, and in the beginning I used to fall for it when the State Troopers say “It’s not gonna affect you and all you have to do is sign here.” I used to think it wasn’t a big deal and that it’s nothing. But one thing I learned is that, the little tiny things can get you in trouble, which is so stupid to me, even now. That ABS light is bullshit too. I remember back in 2014 when I started, I was taught bad habits from drivers running out of a Wal Mart DC😁! Wal Mart has so much power, that they purposely overloaded loads in Reefer Units if no scales are open around the same region to deliver to the Wal Mart stores. Somehow word got out or maybe someone got caught, that DOT set up a portable scale in front of the Wal Mart DC😁! But the loads were all magically in legal weight that they couldn’t pop anyone.

Best advice do both a paper log and ELD having a paper log will give you peace of mind at any weight station Incase your ELD malfunction, we all learn from trial and error.

It fell off my dash two weeks ago and it’s been malfunctioning ever since but when I go to certify it’s normal so I didn’t realize it was flipping on duty with the driving until I got my inspection that’s how I found out.

LOL, it DOES affect your license silly. You now have CSA points on your license. Everyone needs to pay attention…..if you get stopped by DOT or the police, you beg, BEG for a ticket. A ticket can be challenged in court. A warning cannot. If you get a warning, the CSA points go on your license unchallenged. Our great nation of innocent till proven guilty doesn’t not exist for truck drivers or warning tickets would not add CSA points to your license. Wise up and help me sue the DOT and FMCSA to stop the practice of giving out CSA points for warnings which affect your ability to get hired by company.

You get no such right. A warning ticket for a violation in a CMV is more serious than being found guilty (in court) of a speeding ticket in a standard car. Don’t believe me?? Get yourself a few warning’s in a CMV and rack up 100 CSA points on your license and see who will hire you. If there is punishment involved (and there is), the Constitution guarantees due process. The FMCSA has done away with due process which is illegal. Yes, we absolutely can sue them.

Are you a local driver star go to another company and as far your CVR points your company should have a safety classes you drive a day cab so you should be local and if you don't drive over a 100 air miles thats how they determine it I pulled containers for three years in Los Angeles no logs needed so I could go any where that was less then 100 miles from my terminal thats local in California you want to work for a company that has good equipment tractor and trailers . I don't know where you drive but if you are going through a scale and its a port of intrey they looking for a reason to pull you in . And if your company has a bad safety record this will get you pulled in if there other trucks are dirty and the up keep is bad try to find a company that has it own repair where you can go and tell them what's wrong with your truck that you drive Roehl they have good equipment and benefits to take care and be safe its good you keep your truck clean the windows the mirrors and your dash DOT can be very picky be safe oh yea Im a retired driver 26 yrs OTR Owner operator .
