Steve Slack's world was turned upside down when he was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer at the age of 48. He had been to the doctor two years prior to his diagnosis, but his doctor thought it was just food sensitivities.

The best advice I have seen on the internet: EXAGGERATE YOUR SYMPTOMS-if it gets you tested - it is worth doing.

Were you tested for Lynch Syndrome (aka NPPCC)? My daughter was diagnosed with colon cancer at age 35(ish). Because she was so young she was tested for Lynch Syndrome - the genetic predisposition to develop colon & many other cancers. She was positive for LS. It had to come from a parent so I was tested (her father was not, long story) and I was also positive. She had chemo, radiation & surgery and has been cancer free for 15+ yrs. I had colonoscopy which showed precancerous cells & polyps. I had colectomy & also uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes & cervix removed (they were also high risk with LS). If you are young & get colon cancer - get tested for Lynch Syndrome. If you are positive your parents, siblings & children should all be tested. I hope you are doing well now. 😊

Yes some docs should be stripped of their licenses. My husband was having some trouble swallowing for at least a yr. Before doc finally sent him for an endoscopy. He died 7 mos. Later from esophageal cancer.

Doctors that miss things like this after a patient expressly asks for tests should be stripped of their licenses and fined. My mom nearly died because several doctors ignored her requests to test her for thyroid anomalies. 10 years went by, possibly more. She had a softball sized tumor on her parathyroid and it went undiagnosed until she collapsed one day with deathly high calcium levels. She had to have emergency surgery, and has symptoms to this day. It all could have been avoided if they’d listened to her.

It's ironic because they just follow policy in order to avoid getting fired so flipping the cards and putting the power back in people's hands instead of the insurance company's would be a welcome change.

@@dimaknopf as far I know, doctors have a code of ethics and they took an oath. If they did not run proper tests, deliberately denied the requests and symptoms of patient the it lead to misdiagnosis, what would be the remedy of patients against these negligent doctors? They got their license to practice medicine to treat patient NOT TO WORK and follow instructions from the Insurance Companies. I will sue them both for damages. They are all at fault.

My sister at 24 in small town, had symptoms..doctor. doctor,doctor over 1.5yrs.said same ur young, its this that the other...finally to big city doctors..colon cancer liver cancer, gave her 6mos to live..6mos later left 5 and 3 yo kids...30yrs ago...sad...keep fighting..God Bless..

My exhusband has friends who are doctors and none of them said anything about his stomach protruding even thought he would talk about his symptoms. When I saw him I said that is probably cancer......get checked. And he has ascites with adenocarcinoma.

This occurs yoo often. Just tell doctors you have blood on your stool. Doctors overlook symptoms too often because you're "young".

My husband had one of this type of doctor too. He had pain in his right ear and jaw and his doc said he didn't know what was going on. This was in the month of August. The moron said "let's wait till after the holidays and see how you are." By January we finally got a referral to an ENT specialist. It turned out he has oral cancer. That was three years ago. He has been having treatment...chemo, radiation and more chemo since. Those precious months mattered and if he had been treated sooner he would have been spared so much misery. Doctor's should be held accountable for stupid, uncaring actions.

I would b pretty po’. Ed. . I went for a second opinion 6 weeks ago after complaining to pcp for a year. 2 nd opinion gave me a gastric emoting test. And found very slow digestion. I am sick to death but after 6 to 7 weeks never heard from Dr. Again despite calling his office Evedince point to stomach cancer. What else can I do I’ve been bed bound since January 2024

Call your insurance. Ask for a nurse case manager to be assigned. Talk to this person and ask if THEY can call the doctors office (to push them to give your case more attention). They can do this, on your behalf.

I had to push like hell to get my gastro doc to do imaging studies. Colonoscopy and EGD: no polyps found, but he took 10 biopsy samples from my esophagus, cecum and rectum. Found nothing abnormal. I pointed out that there's a lot of real estate between those three points. So he ordered a CT enterogram. No unusual findings. So I pushed for Capsule endoscopy. Nothing unusual found. He feels it might be a newly-developed allergy to one of my longtime daily meds for hypertension or diabetes. But he's not willing to let me ask about photos that were taken during these procedures, and then given to me by his nurse. Should I trust him? Or should I go back to my PCP for allergy testing, as he is pushing for? At least I got these imaging studies done. Now he wants to prescribe an anti-diarrheal; I pointed out that covering up a symptom without finding the cause is just bad medicine. Especially since his drug of choice contains an opioid, and he would advise regular daily dosing. I'm 64, been dealing with explosive diarrhea and other symptoms for over three years. Are there any answers that make sense?

research Dr Tulio Simoncini in Rome … RIGHT NOW. if I had such a diagnosis .. I would fly to Rome and put myself under his care. read his NEXUS article “Is Cancer Hyphal Fungus?” READ IT NOW ⬅️ IMO my opinion IMO

Until you are 45. If you are say 20, I bet someone 10 years younger than you would consider you old. Chew on that. It is all very relative. You can also feel better at 80, then someone at 30. I am sort of old now- but I run 11.5 mph which is far faster than when I was 20.

45 is now the recommended age for your first colonoscopy. It used to be 50.

@@galaxyglitterlatte4664 Hogwash. I won't do one. They lower the bar to collect more and more money. These procedures can permanently disable and kill people. Look up ALL CAUSE MORTALITY. It's about the same whether you do it or not. Did you do one? If I HAD to, it would be a Flex. Sig. only.
