What sells this movie and keeps it from becoming "not bad but forgettable" is Will Ferrell's complete exuberance and joy. "SANTA!!! I know him." He sucks you into the child he still is. A couple of years ago, for my wife's 50th birthday, I surprised her by renting a theater for all of our family and we watched this. It's our favorite Christmas movie. Love ya you ninny-muggins. 😄 Have fun.

The scene with Dinklage works so well still, not just becuase "ha ha, man short" but because how you can understand both sides. Buddy thinks Dinklage is a fellow elf and is happy to see someone from his homeland. Then you have Dinklage who understandably believes some snarky joker is mocking him for his size.

In the real world Macy's department store put Gimbel's out of business back in the 50's. Macys was on west 34th street according to the Christmas movie classic "A Miracle on 34th St." Buddy enters Gimbel's from the West 35th Street entrance according to the sign on the wall.
