btw I started a game recently where I started as Sjaelland or whatever its called in 876 and I worked my way towards creating an empire and in the same lifespan my ruler reformed the faith and made the empire feudal. However, right before I changed from tribal to feudal my empire could call upon 17000 to 18000 soldiers and after becoming feudal could only call upon like 7000. Why did that happen? Also I had to get rid of half of my Men at Arms regiments afterwards because I could no longer afford the cost of maintaining them now that the price was gold. It was pretty brutal since I had like 3000 men at arms which were all super elite heavy infantry. I would send the save file in, but even with that brutal reduction in soldiers I definitely cannot classify it as a disaster save since my empire is secure.

Definitely impressive, but I prefer the slower more stable route of fabricating claims and give all the counties to my house members. Prevents situations such as this. Though if you’re trying to get yourself into crazy situations this is definitely the way.

@@pricesamford giving house members titles isnt that good of solution as it carries a lot of risk: factions with legit claimants that come after your throne! Early empires only look good on the map, but because you don’t have the tech (primogeniture etc) and development in your core provinces you’ll always be dealing with these types of situations. Its what makes the game fun. There’s no blanket rule as to how to avoid this until late in the game. Ideal set up I find is to be an emperor with 2 fully high developed duchies and install your heir to a kingdom with 2 fully developed duchies. That way when they take over after you they’ll be at least Illustrious and Paragon of Virtue and have an heir to give that kingdom to and rinse and repeat (barring shitty luck killing ur heirs etc.)

@@PlTBULL I've found it's a great solution done carefully. Taking enough to cover confederate partition for your kids and then any extras you definitely can't hold yourself giving to extended family members who have less or no claims. You keep your strong healthy cores while dividing and conquering potential enemies under you without having to fire a shot. Unless you totally screw it up none of them will ever completely unite early on because of competing claims with one another. It still makes for fun playthroughs even trying to play tall because you still have to make sure you cover enough land to cover primogeture but with every generation you stay strong and others get weaker.

@@PlTBULL Love the civil wars, I did a playthrough where any land above a barony had to be given to a house member.. My family tree was enormous but also a huge mess due to dying in battlefields claiming each others land and schemes while inheritence was almost completely unpredictable.. Wasn't a optimal playthrough by any means, but sure as hell had a lot of fun.. Ironically it was also the playthrough where I had most of the "renown" abilities.. The fact that a empire the size of the Western Roman Empire broke up constantly in various kingdoms each led by my house members gave me a huge income on renown..

Zeiley, If you need to raise control quickly, go to your court positions and hire seneschal. Good seneschal gives +0.6 control per month which is huge, basically same as picking up control lifestyle and first perk. Very underrated court position imo

This tip has just saved my marshal alot of time.

@@gojira2055 The senechel does increase control. However the marshal is needed to get rid of negative modifyers on you counties. If your territory is at 100 control and u still see a red icon on your county grab your marshal to control it and it will pop off. This also sadly decreases control by 30.

I think we can all learn from your own mistake: 1, Get a good spymaster so no surprise death 2, When your brother is in jail, either move him in dungeon (so he won't escape that easily) or just kill him ... he end up giving you so much trouble, I would rather live with kinslayer debuff than fighting two more wars as a 1 year old (I am 99% sure it is him that killed you) Anyway, good video love it

You went from -1000 gold to 100 because debt doesn't transfer. So you started off with however much gold your heir had. A good way of getting rid of a large debt is intentionally losing to a tyranny faction.

However if he owned at house, the house will be used to satisfy the creditor) Of course when we're talking about kings it's different, that would be the kingdom's debt, not the king's so yeah, it does transfer

@@alberto6169 Where I live debts do transfer, but you can always refuse the inheritance. Of course that means everything still owned by the deceased goes into settling those debts and you lose anything of sentimental value you might have wanted to keep. In regards to the game they don't seem to transfer though it would make sense if they did, cause as you said they are the Kingdoms debt. Going down and endless debt-spiral wouldn't make for fun gameplay though. XD

I feel the northman army just before the 1yo had the faction declared on them could've been better to surrender to, since it would take land from the Uncle there meaning they'd be weaker and saving you some money (and they could've captured the uncle as well since they were going for his capital). And it should be fairly easy to reclaim and would more permanently take power from them. Still game was absolutely brutal to you there. Also tbf with how quickly that empire seems to have come about and the fact the culture was called Anglo-Catalan I'm very confused and kinda impressed that the viewer managed to do as much as they did when starting not that long before. Like 1 Lifetime for Most of the British isles & a separate culture.

this was my save and regarding the culture formation I started as the duke of wessex and catalan because I wanted the iberian dynasty legacies (catalan culture also seems to be the best iberian culture for development). when you start as wessex you get many more holdings than you control so granting those you dont want immediately gives somewhere around 20-25% cultural acceptance. alfred in wessex also has insanely high stewardship so putting him on promote cultural acceptance makes forming a new culture very quick. I admit i did completely fuck up my handling of the vikings

Helpful hint, when having to deal with the Northman invasions, best thing you can do is ransom their leader. If you just enforce demands you don't get any gold, if you ransom them you can steamroll their weakened army, enforce demands and get a fair amount of gold out of it. Another thing is you can set the Northman Army conquest events to have a slightly longer cooldown of ten years and still play in Ironman mode.

Something I've done that works, instead of revoking titles is to banish and renounce claims if you can, then the child inherits and no need to worry about claiments. And it saves you having to redistribute the land in a large civil war which can sometimes be time consuming with large kingdoms.

7:35 - that actually is just the mechanic for clearing debt on succession, you literally can just avoid debt if you just inherit as a character that is not in debt themself, their money will overwrite the debt, it's a fun time

The intrigue play style takes advantage of hooks, abductions, and murders to get amazing vassal contracts, and get gold from banishing priests, ransoming emperors, etc. Seems really fun.

Reading the comments the best way to secure inheritance is by laws. just make sure you have 1 small and 1 big duchy where you have a majority vote. later u can even keep 3 duchys its only a 15- relation. As soon as your kid is 16 give him a dutchy and if u get grandchildren that hit 16 before your death u can give them alot of land. I alos keep a couple of house members in castles that dont have claims on me so when i get a new area they have kids, renown, gold and maybe an ally so they settle in nice n smooth.
