Sometimes I would of loved to have ago at the clergy, but Jesus thought us to be slow to judge because he said if we condemn someone for a sin, a even greater sin will be held against us and it'll make us worse then than any bishop within the Christian church.

So, you would rather you, your family and friends be mislead by your Bishop, because you don't want evaluate his leadership. If the Faith is not important to you than not judging your Bishop would make sense, but if the Faith is important to you, judging your Bishop is a must. I am sure any saintly Bishop wants to hear thoughtful criticisms of his leadership so that he can see past his blindspots and be the Bishop, God called him to be.

@@JaythePandaren I am sure Patriarch of Moscow loves Russia and wants to do his part in defending Russia and Ukraine against NATO the problem is he has gone to far with this statement. May you along with others who crititisize him on this point cause him to eventually see his error and self correct. It is easy to go to far in a war situation, you or I put in the same situation might do the same. Hopefully, the Russian military will recognize that their real enemy is NATO and not Ukraine. Hopefully, they will conduct themselves with honor and not commit rape and stuff that usually happens in war. Let, us pray for Ukraine and Russia and that both nations will turn to Christ for away out of the current situation and that outside forces such as the EU and NATO intent on using this civil war to start World War 3 will not be successful.

For Christians an offensive war against other Christians is virtually never justifiable even if you’re right. Perhaps especially if you’re right. The Russians should have turned the other cheek and prayed for Ukraine, what a Christian witness that would have been. Worthy of sainthood. Instead they invaded, innocent people have been caught up and died and set Orthodoxy back 30 years.

@@xpictos777 If only it were that simple… if Russia turned the other check (which, btw, they had already been doing since 2014) more of their people on eastern Ukraine would be killed. This is a matter of Russia defending their people from getting killed by the Fascist Ukrainians in charge of the government. If you were not aware, right before Russia invaded in February, massive amounts of Ukrainian troops had been amassed in eastern Ukraine, ready to strike at the Donbas again. Russia acted so their people (the ethnic Russians in eastern Ukraine) would not get slaughtered again. It was the final straw.

As a layman in the much suffering Moscow Patriarchate I thank you for your simple words of consolation and I also ask your prayers, because my parish (the only Orthodox parish in northern Sweden) is getting evicted from our Temple in about 5 months time because we are renting the land which is owned by the county government. And they won't let us stay, even if we pay because they want to make a beach there.

I understand that we shouldn't jump the horse because we dislike a bishop, but criticizing someone isn't something done only out of hate. If a priest or a bishop committed a wrongdoing we should report such actions so that they may be stopped. This isn't hate, this is just seeking justice.

As a Serbian Orthodox person in Canada, it's difficult to overcome having had the particular bishop we had for decades. Nothing I want to air in a KZbin comment, but listening to the video was almost a bingo card for this guy. (Cue "Wicked Bishops" section). I will admit that he made it very, VERY difficult to honour the role of Bishop, and praying for him was a struggle. I will admit I never really did it. It shook my confidence in our synod overall (not the only thing, but the one that hurt the most). It didn't shake my faith, though, and to his credit he didn't teach us anything heretical at least. It's all part of the struggle I suppose but I need to pray to let go of the feelings I have about the damage he did to our diocese. I have had the good fortune of our prior bishops having been exemplary and inspiring, though. Current milk toast is harmless but genuinely devout, so I'll take it. But "axios" is a tough thing to live up to and they really do need our prayers.

One thing I always particularly remind people about St. Mark of Ephesus is that he was himself a Bishop, and therefore more ideally suited to resist his fellow bishops. Even St. Maximus, who is also sometimes cited, didn’t go ahead without support from a faithful bishop, in his case Pope St. Martin.

It's important to remember that we are not required to like, agree with or condone a hierarch's political, social or economic views or opinions but, as you say so rightly, it is not our place as layfolk to judge whether or not a particular priest, bishop or patriarch is Orthodox or not. Whatever their personal calibre, if they have received ordination according to the Canons of the Church and remain in communion with other Orthodox Hierarchs, then to separate ourselves from them is to risk falling into the pit of spiritual delusion. As a Greek friend of mine once put it "To have a good priest is a blessing, but a bad priest is still a priest!"

I'm thankful I'm in a small part of the Catholic Church which has a hard working and orthodox Bishop. We pray for our Bishop every day, and for our brothers in dioceses not so fortunate, especially in the United States. This is a hard country to be a Catholic in, much less an Orthodox. But then, the powers of this world, spiritual and earthly, have always demanded absolutism that's not theirs, and their power would be fearsome if God weren't with us at all.

I feel that as a Catholic, and regardless of being part of Orthodoxy or Catholicim, temptation to hate your bishop because he preaches wrong doctrine and has a custom to betray those who follow the faith in favor of people who would throw him under the bus first just because he have the same ideology as them is something that I struggle everyday, thankfully(and fotunally), my local bishop doesn't give me that feeling or the bishop of my confirmation, however, we have to pray for all the bishops, becoming old calendarist, sedevacantist or member of the FSSPX will not solve your problems, yes, the Church has problems, but it always will have, I will not debate orthodoxy and catholicism here, and neither problems caused by your neighbour, Jesus said to love your neighbour, even if he is a schismatic, pagan, heretic and so on, God will deal with him, you are not God, pray for your bishop, to him be a zealous guardian of orthodoxy, even if he is the worst of the church, St. Augustine, St. Matthew and St. Paul did bad deeds before, yet, they chose God, because at the end of the day, the Church is about the salvation of the souls
