The tampon thing is good info. I was taught to keep tampons with me during my first hunter safety course. Also the fact that the full sized trucks always make it is possibly a sign that there should be less of them.. Survivorship bias.

Tampons absorb blood and do not promote clotting. E.g. you pack a wound with a tampon and you don't have blood outside anymore but all that bleeding is just going into the tampon. It's insane to hear a practiced guy say that..... Edit. Should have continued watching before opening my thumbs.

I'm not a scientist or anything but a tampon is gonna hold more blood than you think. In the context of use for those minutes until an ambulance shows up, I'd say that makes alot of sense. Admin has to do a video on it now, or colab with dr. Thumb since he's an actual scientist. The Internet demands it.

The point of gauze in traumatic bleeding isn’t absorption. It’s packing to create pressure. Stop while you’re ahead. There is no justification for tampons being used in hemorrhage control.

The point of wound packing isn't to hold blood. The point is to put bulk into the wound to compress the bleeding vessel. A tampon isn't big enough to do that. It's a common misconception.
