I recommend the Spider-Man movies after this but not the others. The others get really dumb. I’m actually the polar opposite of a Tony Stark fan but I know you like him so sorry. But this was technically the end that they wanted for the saga and everyone’s stories are very well concluded. It’s a fitting end to everything. But Spider-Man Far From Home and No Way Home are excellent. At least watch those

The story arcs of Tony Stark and Steve Rogers are the mirror images of each other. Tony started out completely selfish and self-absorbed, but ended by choosing to sacrifice everything for the sake of everyone else. While Steve always put the good of others ahead of his own, but finally accepted that he deserved good for himself.

Well said. In Avengers 1, Cap challenged Tony to "make the sacrifice play" and "lay on the wire and let the other guy climb over you." And Cap wasn't wrong. At the end of Avengers 1, Tony proved that he was willing to make the sacrifice, but it wasn't the ultimate sacrifice. In Endgame, Strange reminds Tony that this is "the one" in fourteen million, and in a fraction of a second Tony realizes that he has to make the ultimate choice. And he does. In the other fourteen million situations, does a Tony not make that choice? It says a lot about who he ended up being, at his core, and how his friends and loved ones shaped him to make that choice. Without Peter, would he have made that choice? Without his daughter, would he have made the sacrifice? When opportunity arrives, what will we do?

Obviously the fate of the world, nay, universe is at stake and it’s not like he doesn’t truly value and care for everybody else. But seeing Thanos getting the stones back, seeing a repeat of what happened when lost everything g and the last time he didn’t have a daughter, I think that Papa Tony came out and was like “You make another snap at me, and I’m gonna lose it”

Yes, exactly - and Civil War was the crossover point. The one who you'd expect to be standing up for personal liberty actually supported the Accords (because he'd seen and been responsible for massacres with Stark Weapons, and Sokovia) and the trained soldier who you'd expect to have been in favour of following the rules rejected the Accords (because he'd seen what blind belief in State power led to in Winter Soldier). It was a perfectly executed mirror arc for both characters, and I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed :D

Also a call back to the Iron Man trilogy where Tony is unable to sleep, has PTSD, can't find peace because he knows the threat is out there and he keeps pushing to protect everyone, leading to Ultron, but he makes the decision to go to Titan to protect Earth, knowing he could never come back. When he said he had the dream about having Morgan, that's when he was ready to face "the sacrifice play" that Cap in Avengers 1 said he could never make.

The three great moments of courage in this film are when Natalie sacrificed her life to win the soul stone for the team, and when Tony sacrificed his life, and everything he had, to save everyone else. And when Capt. America was walking alone, towards Thanos and his army, to what seemed certain doom. This is courage. Not rash, brash, vengeful, or angry, not something unavailable to mere mortals, or to those without intelligence or skills or weapons. It is the deliberate stand against evil, at the risk of one's own life. Not because the battle can be won, but because it is the right thing to do.

If you pause the movie at the right moment, there is the panoramic of that scene, Thanos, his giant mothership in the sky, hundreds of smallers ships in the sky and his entire army on the ground. Then on the other side of the scene is Captain America standing there all by himself. My favorite scene in all of the MCU!!!

@@salvadormartinez8577 the reason for this is that reactors are seeing these movies for the first time, and watch each movie once before moving on to the next movie in a few weeks. We had the advantage (or disadvantage) of watching these in the theater and waiting for months for the next one to come out. We filled that interim with watching the movies multiple times while waiting for the next one. By the time Endgame came out, many of us spent 11 years watching and re-watching these movies. If you see First Avenger or Winter Soldier 5, 10, 15+ times, these callbacks are very obvious.

That cheeseburgers line… hit me like a brick wall in the theater. During the funeral and the subsequent scenes before it, I felt as if my heart was being carpet bombed with emotions. “I am Iron Man” “You can rest now” “I love you 3000”. The entire time I can feel that emotion pushing me to the breaking point, but some how I’m still holding it in. And then as the camera zooms out during the funeral I’m thinking about the first Iron Man movie. When we first saw Stark. When he got back home and asked for only two things a conference and cheeseburgers. Then Happy asks Morgan if she wants anything. In my head I was thinking: “Don’t you say it…”. When she said: “cheeseburgers”. All those emotion bombs finally hit. It broke me… I’m not ashamed to say I cried.

It actually goes even deeper. Robert Downey Jr., before his role as Tony Stark, was suffering with addiction. Burger King and their "disgusting" cheeseburgers helped him overcome it. We quite literally wouldn't have Tony, Iron Man, or the origin of the MCU itself if it wasn't for a lousy cheeseburger. That was the reason behind that line in the original Iron Man. It's the same reason now, all the way at the Endgame. Incredible.

The last 30-45 minutes you could just hear the whole theatre sobbing, and I know I was crying like a baby. Such a great movie.

This film was SO great in the theater with an audience. The roar when Cap caught Mjolnir, the shouting when Cap said "Assemble" (long awaited line by comic readers) the sobbing (literally) for Tony's funeral, it was like being in a wave of emotions and it was super cool.

Best movie experience of my life. This to me was what I imagine Star Wars was to my dad. Both Infinity War and Endgame. Infinity War from Thor's entrance in Wakanda, to the eerie silence as our heroes were dusted, to the end credit music. Then back at it with Endgame and the energy of the audience when those portals started opening, Mjolnir weilding Cap, the Avengers Assemble line...nothing like it!

I think it's important to remember a line from Vision in Age of Ultron: "A thing isn't beautiful because it lasts." And from Tony: "Part of the journey is the end." We got an incredible 10 year journey for these characters and (give or take) got really powerful endings for them. I'm so grateful that we got to see this. Future phases and sagas may not stack up for us. Or maybe they'll be better in different ways. But the Infinity Saga will always be special in good (and some not good) ways. Good: Showing the world how to build a cinematic universe. Treating most characters at least semi-seriously. Using the comics as a backbone for who these characters are (at least to start). Not Good: Much like Star Wars in the early 80s, the MCU changed our expectations for how we should/could experience cinema/fiction. Thus, everyone decided they needed to have a shared universe, but they didn't follow what the MCU was doing behind the scenes to accomplish it. So they ended up with half measures, dropped balls, or DOA projects instead of thriving cinematic universes. And because so few studios could pull it together, we have kind of ended up with a Marvel only diet, which also isn't good but it isn't totally the fault of Marvel or Disney, really. But, VKunia, you've gotten to go on a wonderful journey through an amazing fictional universe and I'm glad you shared it with everyone :)

I feel though that, despite you admitting that it is totally not Marvel’s fault, it’s unfair to blame Marvel’s success for what seemingly looks like a Marvel-only diet for us. They’ve succeeded in entertaining us after all, and no film studio would really wish for themselves to fail just so others can elevate. If anything, Marvel’s success pushed other film studios to up the ante with their work. Them succeeding or not is no longer on Marvel though. It’s not really Marvel putting every other thing down, it’s just it got too successful relative to everything else, and people can’t help but be at times look at Marvel for reasons. People can just go and see other films too, but Marvel just happens to attract. 🤷🏻‍♂️

17:40 When everyone was attempting to lift Mjolnir in AoU and Cap moved it slightly, he actually stopped himself from completely moving it, making it look like it just moved a little for some reason and that he was still unworthy. He did it so Thor didn't have to compete with anyone, because Thor's whole thing is being worthy, which is why it was so big for him to lift Mjolnir again after talking with his mother, it gave him that knowledge, that he is worthy of his power and that gave him power, that's what Steve didn't want to take away, not until Thor was ready to share that power and worthiness.

Nah all of these comments are still incorrect. He was unworthy (or I guess slightly worthy) in AoU full up. Not sure why you three agree that he consciously didn't pick it up when we visibly see his muscles tense and veins pop from exertion. Like ??? To be worthy of Mjolnir, you have to have core values and the sort of personality Thor has. Back in Age of Ultron, Steve didn't have the correct drive to be worthy of Mjolnir. He was lost, still trying to find his place in the world. He was STILL the Man out of Time. Mjolnir doesn't care about "history". Mjolnir cares about who you are, right now. In Endgame, Steve knew EXACTLY what he needed to do: Kill Thanos, Save Everyone (And at that moment Thor). The moment he was able to accept his place in the world and stopped doubting himself is the moment he was worthy, which he wasn't in AoU.

Steve told Tony that he wasn't the one to make the sacrifice play; and in this movie he gives up everything to save everyone else.

As sad as it was to lose Tony, I think it helps to remember the Howard Stark quote that Tony cited: "no amount of money ever bought a second of time." When Tony got on that ship in Infinity War, he knew it was a one-way trip. He fully believed that he was never making it back, never seeing Pepper again. When Dr. Strange traded the time stone for Tony's life, it was, of course, important to the "win" scenario to beating Thanos. However, in doing so, Strange also gave Tony a priceless gift: time. Time to reunite with Pepper, and to start a family. We can be sad that Tony had to give his life to beat Thanos save the universe. But, we can also be happy he got five years with his wife and daughter, especially when such a scenario appeared to be a statistical impossibility when he was facing off with Thanos in Infinity War.

It's crazy to watch all the movies from beginning to end and remember in the first avengers Captain America tell Tony "your not the one to make the sacrifice play" and look at him. He was the only one to get everything, a daughter and a life, and he lost it all while everyone else got everything back. I cried in the theater.

My best friend and I saw this on opening night. I didn't even get popcorn or a drink because I didn't want to miss a thing. Nat and Tony's deaths got me pretty much as much as you did. But Cap wielding the hammer against Thanos was a big highlight for me because he's my favorite. Then the portals started opening and I got more emotional. Cap says "Avengers" and I was like "Say it! Say it!" and Cap finally says, "assemble." My friend told me I was the first to jump from my seat and cheer out loudly. Rather than telling me to shut up, everyone else followed me. Best damn theater experience of my life.

He could have lifted the hammer at any time, but at the party he knew that if he lifted it then it would detract from Thor's self image. He didn't need to one-up Thor right then, so he didn't. That's how good a friend Steve is. However Thor isn't as stupid as he sometimes acts. He saw the little wiggle and knew Steve was worthy, and honored him for not saying anything. Probably the only lie Steve ever told.

It's the perfect ending, but so bittersweet. You feel happy for Cap, because he got to be with his love, and have the life he wanted, but sad for us. And you feel happy for Tony, because it was his choice to save everyone, except himself, and without that choice, a whole different ending where everyone dies. But sad for Pepper and his daughter. Happy for Nat, because she knew what she was doing, for Hawkeye, because for his family to come back and not have him, that would be so sad for them. With her sacrifice his whole family can be together again, and he can heal from what he became. But sad for us, because Nat's gone. And Tony and Cap were two of the first characters we ever met, so it hit so very hard to lose them. If you didn't cry a lot watching this movie, then you have no heart. Reminds me of another movie, "The Hours" where a character asks another character why she has to kill off people in her books. And she answers, "Someone has to die in order that the rest of us should value life more. It's contrast." And that's true. Real story tellers aren't afraid to kill off their favorite characters. Without the threat of death in a book or a movie or a television show, you find that you don't care so much for the characters, and it just doesn't feel real. For us, the threat is real, death can happen at any moment, especially for someone who runs right into the fight. You hate it when your favorite characters die, but when everyone lives, it's a cop out and lazy story telling. In Russian movies, someone always dies.

It seems like a lot of reactors have trouble with time travel in this movie. There are several conversations in it about how changing the past doesn't affect the timeline you came from, hence why Nebula can kill her past self without being affected by it. It's more like creating branching timelines rather than changing the one you came from.

@@PlumbPitiful no smart hulk wasn't wrong, it ISNT like Back To The Future. Even the Russo bros explained their rules of time travel the same as smart Hulk did. Like the guy commenting said, changing the past creates a branch timeline. Thats why the ancient one told Bruce to bring the stones back to the same time so it wouldn't create branch universes. It's seen plenty in Loki tv show with the TVA snipping any branch timelines by getting rid of variants. The Loki in Endgame who opens a portal with the tesseract is a branch timeline Loki and the Loki from thr TV show. Our Endgame avengers interacting in the past with themselves and others has created multiple branch timelines, for example there's now a branch timeline with Hydra thinking Cap is on their side and that timelines Cap being unaware of that but also thinking Bucky is alive earliet than he would have.

@@DaDunge they didn't, Cap went back in time and his interaction with Peggy and that timeline created a branch timeline which he lived in with her until at some point he came back over to his original timeline(what we now know as Earth 616) to give Sam the shield. How he came back to that branch timeline I'm not sure if it was with the same tech they'd already used with time travel or if it was with some yet to be explained tech. Given the fact 2014 Thanos and his army come through from their alt timeline(created by them discovering future Nebula) to 616 Earth, it's possible Cap did the same. His entire life with Peggy wasn't ever part of Earth 616 , it was a branch timeline. 616 Peggy still married her OG husband and had kids, her niece isn't Caps niece.

Fun fact - the footage of Natalie Portman in this movie was old unused footage from Thor: The Dark World. The first NEW footage of Natalie Portman as Jane Foster is the most recent MCU entry, Thor: Love & Thunder! Also, they had to find a way to sideline Captain Marvel because in reality she is strong enough to defeat Thanos by herself. They also admitted that they would have featured Black Panther more if they knew how popular that movie and character were going to be! Even though this movie is sad in a million ways it’s still amazingly well done. They manage to touch upon dozens of characters stories and have moments of heartbreak and levity. It also wraps up YEARS of films that we’re building up to this conclusion - hence the name “Endgame”. I love this movie - even if it makes you ugly cry at times! PS - Don’t feel bad for Robert Downey Jr! “Downey Jr. earned at least $75 million from Avengers: Endgame. Per Forbes, this breaks down to an upfront payment of $20 million and then an 8% back-end profit from the film rounding up to $55 million in monetary gain.” PSS- There are rumors that Scarlett Johansson is in talks to reprise her role as Black Widow now that she settled her lawsuit with Disney. Almost anything is possible now that (tiny spoiler) they have introduced the Multiverse as a concept!🤞🏻

This movie brought so many things full circle Do you remember in the first Avengers movie when everyone is fighting, Cap tells Tony he'll never be the guy to make the sacrifice play, and Tony tells Cap that he's just a lab experiment, that everything special about him just came out of a bottle, and now we saw Cap be worthy of the hammer, and we saw Tony do the ultimate sacrifice for everything he had, and Steve finally did what Tony always told him to do and let himself have that life he always wanted. Now you see why I literally do not talk about this movie unless I’m sure someone has seen it. It’s so… much. It is the perfect summation of a ten year journey and yes, it is sad to seem some beloved characters go, we have so much to look forward to and so many more stories to tell. It’s up to you if you want to carry on, but I encourage it. Having said that, it just gets bigger from here with not just movies, but the series on Disney+. The journey is the reward, the tears the price we pay for the love we have and will carry forward.

There was always going to be a time when the original actors had to go. Unlike their on-page counterparts, actors age and can't go on forever. There has to be a "reset" and a way to bring in both new characters and new actors playing these favorites. From the first appearance of Thanos way back in the first Avengers film, I said they were going to find a way to use the Infinity Gauntlet story as a way to work that reset, and....here we are.

The reason I like this Reaction so much is what you said at the end, about not liking it but still acknowledging how good it was. More fandoms need to be like that. These folks work hard. I loved this. In our fantasies, the same actors carry on for another ten years, playing the roles we love them in. But Downey was nearing retirement and wanted to do other things, as did Evans. When you're not in your thirties anymore, the starvation workouts they have to do to look right for this film are a big ask. It was time for them to move on and let a new generation come in. And that's what Phase 4 of the MCU has been. A new Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch has (theoretical) kids, Ant-Man's daughter is suiting up, Ms. Marvel has arrived (as has Monica Rambeau), Black Widow has a sister, Ironheart (young genius Iron Girl) is coming in Black Panther 2, and America Chavez was in the Dr. Strange film. This is creating a new, younger Avengers, that can go for another decade, and possibly beyond. The Fantastic Four, She-Hulk and Blade are coming, and The Eternals, the Black Knight, Moon Knight, and Shang-Chi, are already here.

You'd be actually surprised if I said I read all of your comment and I don't agree with it acting isn't something that you're forced to retire from like being an athlete is if you're an athlete at 45 and above your body won't respond as well say if you're a football or soccer goalkeeper you can't jump as high as when you were 20 something but acting isn't like that the retirement is on will for example sir Patrick Stewart is still making stuff at 83 so unless Downey wants to retire himself I don't think you can technically say that moving on to your other point is that with the time machine anything is possible so I think they can still squeeze out 1 or 2 or maximum 3 movies out of Downey with one being iron man 4 where his daughter that has been grown up by then brings another toney back from another universe to help her just like what happened in spiderman into the spider verse and even as recently as 2 years ago with NWH because having someone else playing as toney is ridiculous Downey WAS IS and WILL BE iron man every single cartoon or game that has been released associated with iron man has been based on how Downey played toney so it's impossible to even come close to what Downey put into character and that's why I feel MCU is having a hard time trying to replace him and Toney Peter Parker can't come close cause his personality is FAR from what Iron Man so I don't think they are able to found a proper person for Downey and Toney to pass the torch to other than his own daughter

I saw Infinity War and Endgame 4 or 5 times each in the theater. A big reason for each return trip was the Dopamine hit I got from Thor's arrival in Wakanda and Cap lifting Mjolnir. The theater went absolutely ballistic each time.

Fun fact at 26:50 Cheeseburgers saved RJ's life. Long story short, he was in a bad place years ago with drugs, ate a burger, and felt sick. Tony's death really tied back to the first Avengers, when Cap tells him he's not the guy to make the sacrifice play. Also, Tony hugging Peter was a tieback, when Tony went to open the door to let him out of the limo and Peter thought he was going for a hug and Tony said "We're not there yet". It ended sad, but I think it ended perfectly.

One thing Vicky missed because she was talking was when Tony first arrived back on Earth and he looked Cap in the eye and said "I lost the kid". It was just a quick moment but you could see how much Peters "death" had broken him. The battlefield reunion mirrored that scene very well and showed how much Peter really meant to Tony

I love the emotion you show/have when watching these movies. In my opinion, a movie that can make a person cry or cheer or elicit any emotion is a good movie. Avengers: Endgame brought out a lot of emotions, especially at the beginning and at the end. The character arch of Nebula is horribly underrated. It is amazing how she cares for Tony at the beginning of the movie, compared to the person she was in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Vee, look at it this way. Tony grew from a self interested person to someone who could love and be loved. He died for his family and friends knowing that he actions would save them - he could rest now, as Pepper put it. Natasha, the assassin, became one whose love for her friends made her willingly accept death , not least because she sensed this would bring back Clint’s family. What both learnt in the arc was that love mattered more than self interest or revenge or whatever else. The things we live for and love most are also worth dying for. (As another movie hero illustrated recently, I’ll say no more but you’ll get it if you know). It is right to be distressed , even mourn for the characters (a measure of how we get so involved in their alternate universe). But perhaps we should celebrate their achievement of completion of their selves by their sacrifice. Yeah, I know this is fiction, but in real life I have come to see this is true too.

What's bittersweet about this movie is both Iron Man and Captain America proved each other wrong. In the first Avengers movie, Tony said everything special about Cap came from a bottle. In this movie, Cap wields Thor's hammer and kicks Thanos butt for quite a bit. Cap told Tony he would never make the sacrifice for anyone. He makes the ultimate sacrifice for everyone and was willing to die to bring everyone back, especially Peter. Beautiful storytelling with so many callbacks. Great reaction as always!

I always thought that Cap's final was a bittersweet final. Bitter for us, very sweet for him (and probably the best end the whole arc could possibly have had). It's ok to be sad, like it was ok to be exhalted in the portals scene. That's how powerful the movie is. Nonetheless, VK, I strongly suggest to go on with MCU. You'll be able to see Natasha again in her proper movie, you'll see Tony celebrated in next Spiderman, you'll learn to appreciate new and old heroes. Definitely worth it.

I'm one of the few percentage that knew going in that Tony would die. Tony has always been willing to sacrifice himself over the years and for this to be the final one I was anticipating his death. That said, I was so anxious waiting in line before going in and even bought the Iron Man shaped cup and held it the whole time during the movie because I didn't want to be right. I watched this with a close group of friends I'm still close to to this day and its such an amazing memory I'll always cherish. Infinity War/Endgame were such big moments in movie history, I'm so glad I had a great experience with these movies.

Even without it he can still learn magic. But as Bruce just said, they'll USE the Time Stone and then Return it to the moment it was taken. So technically it was never missing. Don't forget, they CANNOT actually affect their own future from their actions in the past. They'll only "create" new alternate timelines with alternate versions of themselves progressing in THAT timeline. They themselves will not be affected, because they have already "lived" through those events and have the memories. Forget EVERY time travel movie you are trying to reference. They do not apply. One cannot alter their present/future, by altering the past. Once you are IN the past, THAT is NOW your present, so you can't change your "present" because IT is now your past.

Yup. This movie confirmed that the MCU operates (for the most part) on branch universe theory: by traveling to the past, you steer into a different timeline. Loki season 1 later expanded on this to show that there is some wiggle room, inside of which the timeline will stay coherent, but outside of which a new branch is formed. The only thing that doesn't fit is old Cap showing up at the end of Endgame (unless, of course, this was a multiverse thing, ie, a "lateral" move between timelines).

17:10 Go back to what Smart Hulk said about time travel. "Changing the past doesn't change the future... If you travel to the past, that past becomes your future, and your former present becomes the past, which can't now be changed by your new future." Present Nebula went back in time with Rhodey, creating a branching timeline. She could not change her own personal past, but could change the present of the other Nebula, who now exists in a branching timeline. That's why Nebula could shoot her past self and not suffer for it. Because once the timeline split, they became two separate individuals. It's like how in the timeline we were familiar with before this movie, Thor escorted Loki back to Asgard yadda yadda yadda and he died during Thanos' seige of the refugee ship. But because the Avengers went back and messed with time, a variant of Loki made off with the Tesseract and teleported himself away, where he was busted by the TVA.

As sad as this story ended, the thing you have to realize is that - like in life; all things don't necessarily end - these characters & their stories keep moving on & changing. Pepper is right when she told Tony they'll be alright - the stories that come after this are just as cool & unique as the ones before & its all leading up to the next reality threatening crisis that will call for a new team of Avengers to face it. So far, it's been pretty cool & I look forward to see what Marvel has in store. Tony and Natasha are my two favorites out of the original six Avengers so this movie absolutely wrecked me. I was a complete and utter mess in the theater. And the older lady next to me who I bonded with over our love of Tony Stark just turned to me stunned and said, "They killed our guy." So I'm right there with you on this movie. I actually haven't watched any MCU since this though I'm supposed to see Thor: Love and Thunder tomorrow. I've been totally spoiled for all the other movies and shows though so I don't feel the need to see them. (Also, got so distracted by watching the video that I accidentally hit dislike at first but fixed it once I realized what I'd done, lol. Oops. That's what I get for not paying attention I suppose.)

The directors have said they took a page from Star Trek 6 (the last with the original crew) with the signatures. Also, _everyone_ was milling around the theater, waiting for the end credits scene, until the theater guys took pity on us, and told us that there was no end credit scene. :)

The de-aging on Michael Douglas as Hank Pym worked so well because they were able to leverage a ton of footage from when he starred in the TV show "Streets of San Francisco" back in the 1970s. That's pretty much exactly what he looked like then!

I couldn’t believe it!! Well played, Marvel. I do love the ending though that Steve got to be with Peggy. He definitely earned that and it made me happy to see 😊 Thanks for taking this journey! Even if you don’t continue, take your time to process it all. It definitely won’t be the same and things are still settling down from the mega high that was Endgame, there are still a few fun things to come if and when you’re ready 👍🏽

I’m a grown ass man and when I saw Tony hug Peter I got choked up but watching you fall apart in the final act really pulled on my heart strings more. Okay, please believe me the new Marvel tv series are so worth it. WANDAVISION is a weird, funny, surreal continuation of Wanda's story, and her dealing with what has happened. THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER shows what happens with these two, and who gets the shield in the end. LOKI! tells us what happened when he vanished with the tesseract. Believe me this is epic! WHAT IF? is so much fun. HAWKEYE shows something well and truly wonderful, but you probably need to see the BLACK WIDOW movie to get its full impact. And the movie SHANG-CHI is frankly amazing.

New to your channel!!! For mjolnir to pick it up you're either worthy or you're not. Capt could have picked it up at that party but he's so humble he knew that was thor's thing. So once he realized he could move it, he acted and downplayed his worthiness. But seeing as this was thanos, capt had to make a call in desperate times and thor wasn't even mad. He knew he was worthy because thor also knew there was no in-between.❤. Also vibranium is the strongest metal know to man, Uru metal which is what Mijolnir, stormbreaker and thanos's double blade is made of and its stronger than vibranium. Only reason it didn't break in the first avengers movie when thor "put the hammer down" is because Mjolnir blunt wider surface area weapon and only caused a blast wave. Thanos weapon is sharp and with his strength can cut through that shield.
