It's hilarious that the 12.7mm rounds are more effective. It's like they looked at ShVAKs and thought "Yeah, lets give it the Japanese 7.7mm damage output."

Shvaks are a pain. They literally only cause damage one of every 4 cycles and only one of every four bullets of each cycle. And tracers literally trespass targets without dealing damage. In Il-2 Sturmovik (a real trustworthy well documented warbird dogfight simulator) you only need 5 seconds of constant click to tear a K-4 in pieces (5× 10rps=50 bullets), you here instead have to waste all your 300 rounds to at least doom a zero.

I read on the forums that you actually want to use the AP belts with Russian 20mm. I did a few test flights with them and they did seem to work better than Tracer or Ground Target belts. I haven't tried in a real game however yet.

AP works better sub 500 meters (shell travel not range) but the tracers are more consistent overal i tend to shoot at medium-long ranges too so for me tracers are a bit better

In all honesty, the belts for the Russians are all about personal preference and which ones you aim better with. I use universal belts so I can have some tracer rounds to help me aim and rounds that pack a punch, the AP for Pilot Sniping and destroying modules, and the HE for breaking wings and other structural parts.

This plane actually has mixture modeled, so running the default mixture isn't ideal. It leaves you a bit hot at low altitudes. 70% up to 3km, and 40% above that seems to work best. Also, if you keep both rads on full, overheating doesn't become a problem.

The worst part about this plane is the teammates the matchmaker gives you. I don't know why, but whenever I fly the I-225 my teammates just stay on the runway, or they die to bombers, or they run back to the AF instead of killing the single super-corsair chasing me.

This thing is a beast.Russia was my first tree to grind so naturally i played this plane and i loved it and had no problems killing hortens me262s and any 7.0-7.3 american jet.The problem is with the amount of ammo you have you really get to kill one target per takeoff.Either buff the guns or give them higher ammo

Haha man i wish i knew what i was doing , this looks like an entirely different i-225 then mine. I just boom and zoom and try to hunt bombers (and fail a lot cause of my poor aim and well .. the guns) but i haven't really tried turn fighting yet. I've been watching some of your guides and they definitely helped but i'm still so piss poor at dog fighting that usually i don't commit to one :') You're making me want to give it a try though :D

Personally with most 20mms other than MG FF/M and MG 151/20 I use mostly AP, especially on ShVAKs where generally the API has a better chance of getting pilot snipes or setting fires than just tearing off a part of a plane. (Though it still can, if you’re lucky)

Since you mention the I-225 being quirky, and different from other Russian planes, is it like an upgraded MiG-3? It *looks* a lot like that. I think that's how it came about IRL: They started with the MiG-3 and made incremental changes to the engine, wings, and armament (and skipped several levels of BR).

It's not really similar but it's probably the closest thing It climbs extremely fast and is good at high alt It compresses like a bitch but with the flaps you can outdogfight a lot of planes If you're a better pilot you will beat Ki-84s kind of strong It fits the Russian line but it doesn't really fit in it if that makes sense

Yes, the spam of attackers is really bad for russia, as a mediocre pilot i really can't carry, so I get clubbed a lot, however when the team is mainly fighters we usually end up winning. I don't know if it's only me but I feel the quality of german teams has really gone down lately, when playng the allies or Russia I've been winning against them a lot more often.

The shvaks used to be pretty good and reliable same with the Japanese 20mms, but at some point that changed. I have no idea when cause I stopped playing low tiers for like over a year. But the last time I played tier 3 and 4 regularly, those guns were pretty good.

A: Defyn playing reserve plane Average player: this fcking plane is so op. Russian planes are so fun to play. Brainless teammates, pop corn cannons, no altitude performance or being alone when altitude performance is ok and in my case, pings between 160 and 300ms. Another excelent video as always.

At this point the only good guns on the Russian props seem to be the ShKAS, Berezins and the 4× NS-23s 23mm on the La-9. The last one hits like a freight train, that is, if you hit..

@@Myhrumen Depends on the IL-10. The 1946 gets 4 MiG NS-23s. Though those VYAs are probably one of it not the best Russian aircraft guns in the game. High-ish velocity, good damage, reasonable rate of fire. It's probably what makes the IL-2s so funny as turnfighters. They'll hop on your tail and hit ya at 1.5KM out. 2 hits and you're gone.

i wanna be a german main but german 5.3 to 6.0 is pain teams with 288c. so i tried other nations, i225 seems to be the best option for me. not a fan of spitfires. 225 is untouchable most of the time with the retention and altitude

But they're equal in effectiveness due to this fact: They might be different designs, but they fire the exact same cartridge. (20x99mm rounds) And because of that, I am to believe they are modeled as the same weapon in War Thunder. Further, they have the same fire rate of 800 rounds per minute. People who complain about ShVAKs (or any other weapon) need to remember at what range the pilots were trained and were actually shooting. In a country with such a tightened up economy (economy and economics) the trigger discipline was harshly instituted and the pilots shot at close range and it did the job. RB has this bad effect on players were they spray at long ranges (yes even 400 meters, instead of a pass at 100-200 meters) and then complain about the guns. Yes heavy machine-guns have the best ballistics to shoot reliably at 1,5 km (target aircraft speed taken into account), but the other cannons (except MG 151/20 maybe) were simply not intended for precision shooting at long distances. Land-based platforms like armored vehicles used the 20mm cannons for suppression only, at long distances. The other problem is the fuse. AH-64 30mm for example, used the wrong fuse for sandy deserts, so you had to actually shoot through a combatant because the shell wouldn't detonate hitting the ground, as intended. The same is valid for ShVAKs - only at close range it has the speed to reliably hit and set off the fuses.
