using that "captured cross" method, with a bunch of tiles underneath the octagon, you could make a podium for a statue in a city build, where only the central 4x4 round tile is connected to the baseplate, and the octagon is just a decorative base held in place by its inability to move.

Nice! I was hoping for something like that. And I got inspired. I was watching Stacey on the For Bricks and Giggles channel the other day and one of her watchers mentioned that carnival rides to go with her carousel would be cool. And when you were putting those walls on the third one, I thought about one of my favorite carnie rides. Has different names depending on the carnival but it's the spinning cylinder that has riders on the outer walls while it spins and moves around so it spins at angles from horizontal to vertical. All while centripetal force holds the riders to the walls. Similar to a gravitron which has the walls at 45° and riders lay on rolling tray things that centripetal force moves up the walls. Well both could be made I think. I was still hoping I'd see that roll-up bridge I showed you. But dang nice job. I like how how you showed kind of small stuff and one could go big with these principles. Hope for more on this type of topic because I saw another KZbinr talking about Lego content being stale copies of already done videos and I find what you're doing is unique and the opposite of stale or already done. I just don't see others opening up dialogue much. It's darn near interactive!

These are some nice techniques. I suppose there's more ways to use these pieces than I initially thought. Also, don't know if someone else pointed this out, but you could connect the angled parts directly on the octagonal plate as well, just not connected to each other. Then you could still build walls around the plate and nothing will wiggle around.
@bricksculpt3 ай бұрын
Not sure how you would connect them directly. Please explain. Thanks for watching!
@joshuanelsonanimations3 ай бұрын
@@bricksculpt It’s hard to explain without showing you, but you can connect the angled piece to an angled plate anti-studs on studs. It works both on the bottom and the top. You may have to have the pieces in hand to know what I'm talking about. I'm not the best at explaining things. 😅

this part is one of the most useful ever. you can connect angled tiles angle side to angle side once you figure out the right positioning in a seamless way. it’s not used in this set, but the floor tile connections in the lion knights castle where it angles are very similar. once you figure out what i am describing it is amazing. it’s extremely not well known

Do you think they could be used in your obelisk project somehow? If you pieced them together in like a “AVAVA” using plates to keep them together, you might be able to mess around with the angle, while also maintaining a frame that would allow you to put plates on the inside? I’m sure you know much more than I do but just an idea😅

I guess the reason you still don't love it is the irrationality of distances when combining multiple of them. But the true potential of the A piece lies in using just a single one in order to get the 45° change in building direction. In those cases there are no irrational distances to worry about.
@bricksculpt3 ай бұрын
I guess im just being irrational :)

you can connect wing plates angled side to angled side together using them with zero gap, the same way (visually, not with the same part) the floor is connected at an angle in the lion knights castle. its by far the best and most versatile use of the part, and nobody here seems to have figured it out

At [1:50] you said the "travis brick" strategy was not very cosmetic... ... however, when used as a "spine", for a structure's internal reinforcement, it doesn't NEED to be pretty, as long as it's STURDY. This technique might help anchor the outer structure to a sturdy central shaft, that won't be seen from the outside. At [5:50], this "captured cross" technique might be useful for making a stationary PLATFORM that supports the motor of a rotating STATUE in the center... ...or perhaps a carousel...? What if you wanted to build an OCTAGONAL OBELISK???!? The apex might be an issue, but the tapering 8-sided walls would be impressive!

If they are all attached the clips cannot pivot
@adriansue89552 ай бұрын
@@bricksculptthey When all are attached, the large amount of combined friction makes it very hard for them to pivot. -8 pivot points would need to rotate in-sync plus the bars would need to slide in their clips. @reddblackjack3 ай бұрын
Yup, gazebo. A pergola is a latticework roof for an outdoor space. Usually square. But the octagon shape is required for a gazebo. And I don't know why. I looked in a landscaping book and it doesn't say. The roof having a slant should be a fun part of the challenge, but here's a good one if you have lots of wing. Those 2x2 plates with bars all around in an octagon with clips to attach the wedges to will work.
