Physically *trying to hiccup* yourself can also get rid of it for some reason. You basically like try to push air out of your lungs but not exhale, it's kinda' hard to explain. After like 20 seconds of it it works usually

I learned a really good hiccup cure from reddit few years ago: Between hiccups open your mouth and take a big breath, hold it, and swallow your spit 2-3 times. Then breathe out slowly through your nose. Like 99% of the time it makes em instantly stop for me

It's not the physical act of doing this that works for you, its that you are focusing on something else. Hiccups are very psychological. Go back and watch when pewds lost his hiccups in this vid. As soon as he started trying to remember something from his childhood his mind was fully enveloped in those thoughts and his hiccups were instantly gone.

Pro tip for hiccups: You need to breathe slightly more CO2. To do that simply breathe through a paper bag or cover your head with a blanket (or any other thicker material) and wait few second up to 1 min. Just not too long, you don’t wanna suffocate ;) It’s just some old “mechanics” we got from amphibious ancestors and hiccups were probably helping them to get rid of some water from the lungs. Learned that a year ago and helps me every time since then :D
