The problem with these 5/5 defenders is they give no consideration to the nodes. Look at Enchantress in EQ, nearly all the nodes help the attacker. So what happens in AW or BG where the nodes aren’t designed to help the attacker to such extremes. Could you imagine her in incursions? As you mentioned Serpent has been a nightmare the last two BG metas because his kit is a beast on its own. Give him just about any defensive node and he is a nightmare. Kabam is saying how they want to simplify things and that is great but the champion designs continue to go in the opposite direction.

Yes, she is not touching masteries, thankfully. But you have to remember which actions remove which spells and some spells protect removal of other spells. One of them is punishing her heavy so you need to bait a heavy which is not reliable with the AI lately. Imagine her with Invade node where you can’t block to bait the heavy to punish.

Solid video. The biggest problem is that they don't listen to players, though. They look at data, and the data shows everyone buying these insane champs and max ranking them, and they're in everyone's decks. It doesn't matter that all those same people hate those champs and feel the game would be better without them because the data shows they're being used and profitable.

You are the first player i've seen you has addressed this issue. Kabam releases these new B.S defenders like Bullseye, Serpent and now Enchantress knowing people will buy them, rank them and add them to their decks because of their B.S abilites in BG. And the absolute worst part is that if they are gonna release B.S defenders, release good attackers to deal with them but almost all offensive Champions this year have been mediocre at best and straight up embarrassing at worst (Silver Sable). 🤮🤮

For these 5/5 defenders, I think Kabam needs to do a second deep dive and show us how to fight them. They need to show us 1. The concept of countering these defenders' kit. What do you need to do to offset or slow down their abilities. 2. When you have a good counter as an attacker. 3. When you do not have a good counter.

Something to consider - and I'm not sure if it's a positive or negative - but this might be the groundwork for introducing Mystique into the game. Imagine that Mystique can become maybe a dozen other champions. And the requirement for the morphs is an assortment of Mortal Combat style combos. Abs Man got us part of the way there, using the SPs to morph, but the number of forms is highly limited. Enchantress' kit opens that up. That would make Mystique's introduction into the game even more exciting than any of us could have realistically imagined two years ago...but it comes at a cost of ease of play. So Kabam tries out the mechanics on a champion where the stakes aren't as high, the development it's as challenging, and the anticipation for their intro isn't so pent up.

I love the idea. As a lifelong fan of RPG games I am absolutely delighted to have a real spell-caster in the game. I look forward to (trying to) use her and see how it feels in a fight. Having a couple of such characters in the game is fine in my opinion. As long as the complexity means something and the character resonates with me I’m willing to learn. Can’t say I’m a fan of her defensive abilities but alongside serpent, bullseye, onslaught, fantaman, red skull and many other BS defenders I doubt she will make that big of an impact.

To me, my biggest concern is the AI. We have to perform some actions against Enchantress but if the AI decide to not throw a heavy or to not dash forward to you you'll take more time to defeat her and that for bgs sucks. The Ai is getting more and more smart lately so I see a great headache with her as soon as she enters the contest.

And kabam has talked about simplicity in side quests those are staples of the game. This is a character so I don't see it as the same thing. Dear Vega, follow you and play the game for a long long time, and it really getting so much harder to follow all the game offers...so much content..so much complex strategies (even though fo SQs..) and the champs now... you really need to order a course, a YT guide it's not enough.. Totally agree that it's time to Kabam slow down.. make the things fun again. I've decided to quit alliances 3 years ago, and now i've thinking in quit game..I've ge exausted and drained.. Well, i'm far far away from a good player, and love the game, but it becomes wild to get thru all the massive contents, (Act 8, Necro, SoP, crucible) wooww. To get this out of the way: I've not watched the video or played the eq yet, but heres my initial thoughts based purely on the deep dive Enchantress is going to be an absolute monster on defense like maestro, bullseye, serpent, and onslaught. Hlwever unlike 3 of those chanps i fully believe shes going to be relatively mediocre on offense due to her being a mostly utility based champ rather than a danage based one. Also unlike the last champ on that list that isnt great offensively, bullseye, i dont see her being used almost at all due to her complexity. Both champs are seemingly niche offensive picks but due to her complexity most players wont use her bc its not worth learning her spellbool just for a few niche fights that someone else can probably handle

Honestly I feel like Enchantress would be fun to play in longer content because there is so much cool stuff you can do, and you by no means need to play champions skillfully for them to be good, you can just mess around and let the random on the so 1 happen, it’s not ideal for the character but is an option, and you can just spam 1 combo for sp1 and still probably do relatively well in arena and event quests, but like most other champions, there is a low skill floor and an increasingly high skill ceiling, and bg it’s just going to be another defender, a mystic defender which will be nice as the best defenders in that class in my experience have been extremely reliant on one thing that can easily be countered, Sasquatch depends on having a massive health pool and the entire point of bg is to have defenders and champions that have a very high damage output over a very short period of time, and Wiccan can be shut down by any incinerate immune champion, but enchantress will be a difficult counter and probably a frequent ban and won’t really be used offensively for bg by newer players, I feel like she’ll be used often by higher skill players who will be able to use her effectively if they were to invest the time. So basically I think that Enchantress will basically be either fun to experiment with or one of your favourites that you use all the time and a defender almost exclusively for bg and the equivalent to bullseye in the mystic class.

Vega, you bring up a very interesting point, and you've changed my mind a bit about Enchantress. I'm one of those people that's both excited to learn to play her and learn to fight her. On D she seems more a skill ask than a RPG ask! Now I'm realising learning how to play her will be waaay less rewarding than it could have been if not so much of her power budget was put into her being a 5/5 defender. I understand the game needs more good defenders (for a lot of reasons) . But I think Kabam potentially played it wrong to give the most complex (fun) attacking kit to a defender. That said, there is a 0% she will miss. Being a defender, the value she provides in competitive modes is immense. I think a lot of people would pick up her bundle for that fact alone.

Something about seeing all those effects at once released dopamine But the damage/potency of her effects is still yet to be properly examined. Deep dives haven’t been the best place to see the upper limits of a champ.

Dorky Dave used to play a game called skull girls on his channel a lot that implemented multiple swipes in different directions. They were able to make it intuitive and added into new combos and mechanics. I liked how that worked, I wouldn’t mind some of that in mcoc

When we asked for the game to be simplified were we referring to champs?? I thought we were asking for simplified reward structures, so we don’t have to look at 3 different resources for access to 5 different kinds of side quests. Champ complexity hasn’t ever been a complaint of mine. It’s natural. There’s only so many parry-heavy champs you can make before you must graduate to a slightly more complex playstyle. Like, imagine if Kabam maintained their simplicity. We’d be getting champs designed like the 2014 ones. Basic, bland, and repetitive. Most of them have single rotations.

​@Vega583 , that is what they used to do. Darkhawk is the most obvious example with his Raptor Upgrades node that randomized what mode he started the match in, and gave bonuses to each mode. The Act 6 Champion boss was given similar treatment by adding nodes that turn pieces of his kit into defensive threats. Something I would like to see is an update to the boss node in war that incorporates that thinking. Imagine if an aspect of the boss node was able to activate a node depending on who was defending the final spot.

This is 100% a valid take. Decided to do my usual autofights in conquerer difficulty on the enchantress path. When I came back to my phone, my entire team was laid out, this definitely shows how powerful she is as a defender if a 4 star can easily lay out rank 6 6 stars

The AI is never gonna deal any damage because it can’t intercept enough, no matter how strong the champ is. But I don’t think you would say that node should be removed, would you? I don’t think this experience has any bearing on the defensive capabilities of Enchantress

If you don’t get over that basic awareness check, you simply won’t win. That’s why the auto fight AI can’t beat her, just like it would never beat an Aegis intercept node.

When I saw her kit I thought F this, I have enought. They are producing more and more and more super complicated champs which noone knows how they works. I now have even r3 champs I dont know how to use. To be honest It makes me angry that they are changing old champs like Storm or Ironman and making them harder defenders. I was super surprised when saw that superiorman has the same animations not 15 beams, 6 punches and 2 rockets to dodge... Then I hear that Beta ray Bill is "just" a damage dealer... and then it appear that he is amazing, buut now you must learn his rotations or else he will do Drax damage. Im just tired of this. Why cant them just gave us a simple champ ever now and then. I know that there is a lot of people who loves learning spacing of all >200 champs spcials with Tigra, but can where be some sort of balance of complex and easy to use?

Idk what the he'll your on with storm an iron man being harder defenders both are relatively easy fights, and as for BRB he's got an extremely easy to learn kit compared to most champs. For 90% of fights it's build to sp2, creat space, hold heavy, use sp2 when defender starts dashing then build to an sp1 and use it when his shocks are about to expire. It sounds a lot more complicated than it is

I really like her. I have her at 7 star r2. Her complexity makes it even more fun in my opinion. The only issue with her is that the ramp is to damn long. If they had designed her to be a duel threats where the damage was higher as for now and less annoying as defender it would have been perfect. I am also doubting where i actually can use her complex kit beside bg/aw defender. Once she is ramped up though she is awesome as an attacker aswell

before i even watch the video fully i'll say I like that the game is bringing more complexities to its actual gameplay. compared to other fighters mcoc is extremely tame on its mechanics which it makes up for in the champions' abilities, synergies, awaken abilities, nodes and stuff like that. However (and maybe this is coming more from a bias), I hate that she's another crazy defender that we have to deal with. I feel like kabam is putting out new broken defender every other day or something without the community get used to the previous broken defender they released. Which ofc, if they weren't hard enough with a good counter, you also take guaranteed damage no matter what.

alright after watching the video, I agree with majority of the take. The only thing is that her complexity as an attacker does not matter very much at all and, infact, is a good thing because atleast as an attacker, you get to choose if you wanna play the character or not. You get to choose whether or not you wanna spend the time and effort learning her kit. But as you said at the end, as a defender, pretty much everyone has to deal with her no matter what. And this without all the bullshit nodes they decide to throw on top of her. Also as a side note, I'm pretty sure the dev for this champ said if you don't wanna deal with learning her kit there is an easier way but I don't really know as of now how viable that playstyle will be for her and what she can accomplish. Either way, I think as an attacker this is kind of a homerun but the game has a broken defender problem right now and she is not helping that

I asked about the sinplification after that love stream. It’s was 100% not meant to be about character design only interface / reward structure. But imho the game really is in need for a simplification to keep casual players or at least let me talk just about me engaged. For me the complexity has grown so far above my head I just am not able to even try to grow … I am crumbling down instead of being able to climb… fell down from tier 2 war to just casual and even that is becoming problematic

I’m in the minority that is thrilled about this direction relative to her game mechanics. I play a lot of console fighting games and I love learning to “main” obscure champs with less popular play styles. With that said, I echo other comments about how the complexity of this type of defender gets exacerbated with additional nodes etc. Tough thing to balance for the design team because if you make a complicated attacker, the payoff has to be off the charts to make the juice worth the squeeze when compared to a champ that can get similar results without the complexity. So if she didn’t have the defensive threat, I’m not sure she would hold much value.

It should be simple where like a champ has 80% of their potential with limited skill. Like if you just do your normal 5 hit combos and throw specials you can get most of their damage and utility. And then 20% of their max damage and optimal utility should be saved for high skill players. I dunno. Just a thought

On one hand I’m glad kabam is still hiding ways to innovate and make the game more interesting but on the other…..I think maybe they’re going too overboard. Like WHY are we getting ANOTHER defender…..Battlegrounds is almost at the point where the best way to win is just to have the most stacked asshole defenders to screw over your opponent rather than to actually do good in your own fight, at least that’s been my experience. I will say tho, I think they should just release one attacker and one defender every month, just like how they’re doing with Beta Ray Bill and enchantress, THAT at least I’m a fan of. Great video!

There *are* 3 swipes in the same direction spells. Guess what though? 3 swipes in the same direction is just as useful as 1. Both can only make 4 combinations. Enchantress has up to 12 spells. That’s why the other combinations exist.

Honestly, this is probably going to be the final straw for a lot of people. Wouldn't be surprised if this causes a bunch of people to quit the game. Defender fatigue is real at this point. She looks to be another cancer on the game right along side Onslaught, Bullseye, and Serpent.

My issue is NOT with Enchantress or Serpent per se. Its that we are routinely challenged with problems before being given the tools to deal with them. And during that figuring out period, they complicate the challenge by giving Serpent nodes that make him near impossible If they had released several counters to these 5/5 defenders ahead of time and allowed the community to unearth these solutions first, then adding the node complications would be fine Does just seem like the ordering they release these champs and challenges they ask the player are out of whack, at least in my opinion In the past year, these champs needed an adjustment period, and i feel like the balance team are far too late to mitigate the general ballache of that adjustment period - would prefer they made a defender more difficult after balancing and save the months of BS, rather than suffer and months later make it easier Science: Photon Cosmic: Maestro Mutant: Onslaught Skill: Bullseye Cosmic: Serpent Mystic: Enchantress

They’re clearly trying to build a portfolio of touch defenders for each class of the game. I will say though, Serpent hasn’t appeared much at all in Kabam’s content since release, so I dunno what you mean by “giving Serpent nodes that make him near impossible”. Dust is fairly simple. Build charges and drop massive specials. I’d say a lot of champs this year fall under fairy simple to play other than enchantress and maybe champs like punk if you don’t like the strum thing

Dust is very simple, MLLLM combos to apply your sand. Heavy or SP3 triggers sandstorm. During sandstorm all sand is turned into prowess. Throw specials like crazy. She really isn’t complex

I dont wanna read an essay just to figure out how to beat a character. Im not the most serious player ever and enchantress wiped out my team just on uncollected. I want the sig levels on my valk but im probably not even going to bother because i dont want to fight her. If i run into her into battlegrounds im just gonna throw the round. I think if the top tier players require more of a challenge make 7*'s have more complicated kits than their lower star counterparts when defending. I feel like in terms of making the game more challenging for higher tier players theres much better options than making an overpowered character that the entire community has to deal with.

I think the release of Enchantress is the epitome of "high hopes, low expectations." It's very hard to see a kit that has more new mechanics than the entire roster of champions released last year combined and not think "well crap, guess i've gotta read a PHd level dissertation on another character I'm just gonna ban for the first 6 months of existing" while also have some hope that Kabam is wrong and she lands as a challenging but fun defender with fair targetable counter play and isn't in a position in which she absolutely cannot be fought without an ideal counter...cuz thats how Serpent feels and that's why I ban him so much. I just don't think asking this level of time investment just to learn how to play against a character is typically a good idea. I understand the desire for a tough mystic defender, but I don't think the issue is a lack of tough mystics. If we were to remove the science classes top 5 champions, the mystic defenders we do have become significantly scarier, so, in my eyes, the reason we have a lack of difficult mystic defenders, and consequently, why Enchantress has more text than my college career, is simply because the science class is, genuinely, leaps and bounds ahead of every other class. Scorpion + Titania are, arguably, the 2 most important champions to have on nearly every roster as the two of them cover nearly 80% of all fights in the game. So few champions now a days have such a wide breadth of use, but the science class has several. Even some who don't make the top 10 of the class, like Red Guardian and Photon, are vastly better champions than the 4th or 5th best champion of a weaker class. With that being said, I think Enchantress largely feels out of place IN TIME rather than in the game as a whole. Given enough time, I'm sure her kit will feel "normal" in terms of complexity, but I think she is several years too early to have such a complex kit.

i think your serpent claim is justified. im in a low gold alliance and faced him once. it was dreadful. unless u bring certain champs, which u dont have slots for bc u have to deal with the other certain champs on the map. bullseye i think in a way can be mitigated by negasonic cuz shes in the feat crystal now. but thats a 5* negasonic, and shes so niche that i dont really want to rank her up but due to bullseyes r so many on the map i had to

Months before Kabam introduces a new character to the game, they should have a generic skinned male/female character for tests, program their abilities for CCP Summoners to test out the generic champ for a couple of weeks, get their feedback, and rework the character as needed. This way CCP Summoners won't be able to identify and leak the character because of the basic skin, and/or gender swap, and Kabam will get the input they need to revamp the upcoming champ before its release.

@@mrsanguini5819 À Little? They had to put nodes to favor attackers in EQ to tune her down. I one shot her almost every time except the first attempt. The question isn’t if you can beat her or not. It’s a boss fight always present in the game. You must remove her spells before she throws another SP1. Of course she is trigger happy on SP1. Finishing the fight without any damage is very difficult. That means, in Incursions, in AW and in BG she’s going to be a major problem at full force (not tune down has she is in EQ)

Listen kabam has learned if they make a attacker like Hercules it keeps them up at night because he destroys the game and strong attackers limit unit cost in content for most, but a strong defender is a win win for the bottom line. Players will need those champs for competitive play. Cause players to use consumables forcing players to buy rank up resources to fight with highest rank champs to try to survive. Not a fan .

Alright so here's my take on this. I will preface by saying that I like to consider myself a good player and a lover of complicated champions. I think Enchantress is fine. Putting Attack aside for a second, she's listed as a 5/5 defender. What it means to be a 5/5 defender a decade after the start of the game, is you need to be a knowledge check and you need to be a skill check. There has to be a way to mitigate Enchantress with RPG mechanics (but not a hard shutoff where you require no skill), and there has to be a way to mitigate her with skill (not too much so that any champ can beat her if the player is good enough). Champions intended to be tough defenders need to feel like a story quest boss that also cares about who you're using. That's just the reality we're in of the community never being willing to let Kabam tune down champions like Hercules, Nick Fury, Nimrod. Respective to Enchantress, she gets a lot easier to manage with champions that have Enervate, Suppression, Exhaustion, Petrify, Wither, and Debilitate. These are the RPG asks. The skill asks, she gets a lot easier once you learn what removal trigger to use when. This is comparable to Gwenmaster and her Plot Armor. Now, offensively. I definitely get your point that she's not going to be very friendly to newer players. However, over time, I think people that don't want to know all her spells are going to figure out the spells to focus on. It's not going to be immediate for sure, but it will come. Maybe it'll take some people making a "Spellcasting for Starters" or "Bewitching for Beginners" or "Enchanting for the Earnest" guide that breaks down these spells to prioritize at the start, and what circumstances might warrant a different spell (think Absorbing Man's Forms, but obviously more intricate). Now, I think the most important thing to know is that Enchantress will not become the new normal on offense, at least not any time soon, because blatantly, this is not for everyone. This is for the players who have been looking for a champion that they can spend time learning and mastering, to the level we haven't seen since probably Slayer of Gods with CGR and all those different Rotations he's been able to come up with. In summary, in my opinion, she's the epitome of the devs trying to appeal to people who enjoy a multitude of rotations and experimentation, while also making sure she provides value to a roster even if she's not the right fit for you on offense.
