A BURNS ‘THRIVER’ who has 95% burns to his body is now inspiring others to accept their differences. Johnny Quinn, from Millington, Tennessee, sustained life-changing injuries at just four-years-old and nearly died in a fire at his home but was saved by his older sister Leah who pulled him out of the blaze. Johnny suffered second, third and fourth-degree burns and had over 100 reconstructive surgeries. Johnny struggled to accept his scars for a long time but he is now embracing his unique look and inspires others to accept their scars. Johnny told Truly: “I'm not surviving, I'm thriving. I'm going above and beyond what I used to be doing and I'm really enjoying it and I would not go back to how it was before if that was ever an option.” Johnny, who has recently turned 21 years old, was featured by Truly in 2018 at the age of 18 when he had just started embracing his scars.

My mom is a burn survivor. 40% percent of her body was burned. The upper half of her body has most of the burns, the right side being the worst. She was called Freddy Krueger and was constantly bullied in school. My mom was put into foster care because my grandparents neglected her. But, she’s no different than anyone else. She just has lots of scars. If anything, she’s the strongest person I know and I think that everyone who’s a burn survivor doesn’t deserve to be harassed and bullied. They’re just as human as you are.

Children just aren't as developed as adults when it comes to empathy, not to mention they are more ignorant and combined with tribalism, well that just makes it hard for "different" kids to fit in. I'm not saying what they did wasn't bad, just introducing some needed nuance to have a better picture of the context and thus we can make better judgements.

It's amazing how people can adapt and make such positive choices to go forward in life. My mum had polio as a child was 1 year in an iron lung isolated from her family thrown in a tank of water to make her move told she would never walk never have children. She walked had 4 children had meningitis now has parkinsons had a bad stroke 12 years ago now has dementia. I've been caring 24 7 for her for 12 years now. God is good we take everything daily . So to see this young guy enjoying his life and trying his best and to be happy is wonderful.

For starters I don't have any teeth now even though I'm 38 because I had to pull most of them out myself over the course of a few years because otherwise I was effectively being left to die... Hell if I will ever know why the US medical system would throw waves of pain meds at me but never approved for removing the infected bone until I was eventually left with a distorted jaw... Now they can't even make dentures that will properly fit for me... But seriously at least I'm actually ALIVE to have a problem to begin with right?... It's not about how good or bad you have it, It's about how long are you willing to stay in your hell looking for the key to heaven?

Definitely ! And he’s happier because of it . Most of the time when we are lazy, we are unhappy. Some might say the unhappiness comes first and it might be but by being lazy all the time, you will not snap out of the depression. We have to force ourselves to push through sometimes . And allow ourselves rest days too. :)

When i saw the thumbnail of you i had to hear your story. You must have been in extreme pain during your recovery. I too have 3rd degree burns on my torso from being lite on fire as a 6 year old. I can remember the pain & feeling like i was being burned right down to my bones and it went on for months. I thought at 6 that no one would love me now that i am damaged goods. I eventually came to terms with my scars and decided not to hide them and i have never looked back. You are very inspiring to others and your joy for life is infectious. Never stop being you!
