I Have Concerns About The 2024 Lego Star Wars Imperial Star Destroyer

May the Fourth Be With You Weekend is ending with a bang! The August 1st Lego Star Wars Imperial Star Destroyer just had images come out and my initial thoughts are, it looks a touch small. I'm usually not too bent out of shape if a set is a little downsized, but for an Imperial Star Destroyer, I hope this one isn't as small as my initial thoughts indicate.
It does include the coveted Cal Kestis 25th Anniversary Minifigure, so it is a must buy from that regard, but overall I am looking forward to seeing this set in person before I give a distinct judgement.

Just out of the couriosity I counted how many studs on the edge my 2006 star destroyer have. Its 70. 70 vs 55 is a huuuuge difference. This one is realy small

That's a bigger gap, I counted 61 on the 2014 one, but it was rough math since I don't have one in my possession.

It looks extremely small for that price tag. It's a half step above the midi-scale one honestly and not worth it. Plus a Cal without a poncho? Come on now lol

I’m pretty sure it’s either smaller or bigger than the light cruiser we got a few years ago by a cm or two either way it should be bigger for that price

idk how everyone is surprised, LEGO has been doing this and will continue to do it. Look at how small the Slave I's and Sandcrawlers have gotten compared to older models.

It's funny because it has more pieces than the 2014 one but it's alot smaller

@@chrisramirez42492014 was peak. Notice how integral building techniques have hardly changed if at all in all repeat sets from the last few years who’s most recent cousin in 2014-2015. I honestly prefer the more studded look of 2014, this newer version low key looks like a chubby hasbro toy with the less studs and length. But I’ve been delightfully surprised in the past. Maybe I’m just inherently too harsh on new sets

Smaller is more accessible. Bigger should be kept for UCS. Any smaller should either be starship collection or microfighter

I got the 2006 one and it’s great. Not the same amount of detail or as well build as new sets, but still a fun set. Sucks you can’t put some figures in the bridge like older sets.

That's awesome! That and the 2014 one seem to have aged incredibly well. I agree, the bridge not having figures feels disappointing.

People saying more pieces -> They unnecessarily use alot of smaller pieces so the piece count goes up, that way the price looks justified. But the fact is that people pay more for less plastic. LEGO have become greedy scammers.

I think a lot of people share the same sentiment, we'd prefer a little less detail for a bigger ship instead of excessive small pieces

That is probably the best idea. For 140$ ish, I think this is a great deal IMO, especially the Imperial officer and Cal figures

While I dont mind it being small, the price range for this size is really whats making me conflicted with getting it because it feels like Lego has made smaller sets more expensive.

I think an extra figure or two would have gone a long ways with the pricing too. Just to fill out the set a touch more

Well, I have no imperial Star Destroyer yet, so I'm getting this one and see how it compares to my First Order one and the Light Cruiser. The size honestly doesn't bother me... much. One inch more or less doesn't make it better or worse to me. The price is standard Lego pricing, means never buy at full price and wait for discounts.

I like the design because it's essentially the 2014 one. Totally mod worthy. The 2006 one is poorly constructed BUT has a decent size and a bridge for minifigures. That's such an obvious feature to include that is really sucks Lego skipped on this 2024 version. Cal minifigure not withstanding, you want a great example of inflation then compare this 2024 ISD to the 2014 one which are essentially the same ship with very similar figure count. $160 msrp vs. $120 msrp respectively. Having said that, could have been worse and I hate to admit that! Lego could have sold the new one for $180 or $200 based on their current record high pricing.

What does Gallius Rax even look like? Is there even any official art work or something of what Gallius Rax even looks like? I feel at this point you can do about anything with a minifig and say it's Gallius Rax. I'm not against the idea of Gallius Rax, but who's gonna recognize him unless if you tell us? Personally, I'd love Tarkin! But I feel a feeling with the rumored Death Star set, we'll get a Tarkin anyway... Hey maybe we could get Admiral Ozzel! If we remove Vader and Commander Praji as well; It'd be nice to have him and then throw in Piett as well. Good for playing out that scene in Empire Strikes Back where Ozzel dies and Piett has to take over. I suggested removing Commander Praji because it seems like this is intended to be A New Hope set. BUT. They got the Array on top of the bridge all wrong, that's the Array used by Star Destroyers after A New Hope.

I Think there is artwork of him, but I'm not 100% sure. I look at it the same as Admiral Sloane that they gave us in the Tie Interceptor so they could make an admiral character with a red cape like the book describes him. I'd definitely be down with Admiral Ozzel or really any other Officer to add to the collection instead of the 7th Vader on shelves the last year lol. Ozzel and Praji would make sense for sure and would be fun!

Definitely picking this up, I love the Star Destroyer but I couldn't dare afford the UCS one lol, in time I'll get it 💪🏾😭😩🤧 but for now this play scale version will more than do 😁😁😁👍🏾. I loved the 2014 one but I was torn with other sets from the wave and those from Ninjago. Now I'm not too hot on Ninjago it's a no brainer to choose this and with that Cal figure it's a must buy. I'm glad they did this compared to a Death Star Playset as it would have been like Yavin 4/A scaled down Cloud City and I don't like those types of sets tbh.

Honestly it could’ve just been benefited from a couple triangular plates at the front to better conceal the very front giving it some extra length. I’m also not a fan of the tiny bridge because like with 75190 where the bridge was awesome, I don’t feel the same way but I’m still breaking my wallet on this one

i know its a different unit of measurement but for those wondering the new one is 46cm long, as opposed to the 58cm length of the 2014 imperial star destroyer

Very interesting! I didn't know the exact measurements, but I hope it doesn't feel or look terribly smaller. My guess is it will be close to the 2021 Imperial Light Cruiser set but any smaller than that is going to feel weird IMO. Thanks for the info!

Personally, I actually prefer smaller footprints because I am quickly running out of room to display my Lego. This set has more pieces than the 2014 model and the same amount of mini figures. Adjusting for inflation this set costs the same as it did in 2014. I really have no complaints here.

I'm mostly in the same boat, I just worry about it for MOC building, cause as soon as I heard about this set I had several MOC ideas, but I agree for space wise I enjoy smaller footprints cause I am running low on space to where the dog has to be extra careful too 🤣

It looks to be about 160$ so definitely not cheap, but is around the same price the Imperial Light Cruiser was in 2021. My guess is it will be about that size which isn't too bad imo!

of course it's small it's for kids ten and up and if anything the biggest concern is Cal not having a poncho.

Definitely think there are several custom builds, alternate builds for some sets that can get more bang for buck.
