The Garo community or tribe better known as A•chik in the North eastern part of India, Garo hills district, now in the present state of Meghalaya India were not Christians in late 1880s. We have our own religion. When British extended their colonialism to the north eastern part of India before India became independence, they forced all the indigenous people to ebey to their rules. At that time American Baptist missionaries came to this part of the world and slowly able to convert them to Christianity. One head of the family and his family members converted to Christianity. The chief objected their conversion and threatened his child to kill if did not come back to his own religion. Finally they killed his child but he did not gave up. He said I have decided to follow Jesus, no turning back. Finally the chief repented and accepted Jesus and became Christian. So from this true story the song was composed in our Garo ( A•chik) language , but till now there is no record who actually composed this song. Some names of one or two people came up but there is no record to authenticate.
