Utter cringe. The nominees and even winners weren’t even that different from the “not real” game awards, lol. If you had anyone vote it should be developers or a mix of developers and players. Developers might at least avoid choosing the flavour of the month or pay tribute to mechanics. Just doing “best of [genre]” is boring and defeats the purpose of it. You should highlight and celebrate more specific aspects of the process. The Game Awards still sucks, but they at least try to get some different awards in there that aren’t just for the memes or pandering.
