I understand your frustration with the online system. I think you should have made this somewhat of a big deal when you went to the immigration office, so that they can probably reduce the cost of the visa due to the hassle you had to undergo. Nevertheless glad that you will be spending two more months in Sri Lanka! Hope you get to enjoy all the different landscapes and food choices the country offers. Since you are already in Kandy, you can try visiting surrounding areas such as Nuwaraeliya (cold climate) and Ella (also cold climate).

The usual result of making a visa extension into a big issue is you don't get the visa extended, so you either leave or get arrested. And you don't haggle over the cost of a fixed government fee, that also can mean you don't get the visa extended.

Congratulation for the visa. I was in Sri Lanka for one months long time ago, attended a Radio and TV Course at Sri Lanka Broadcasting Center in Colombo. We went to Kandy for few days too. I love Sri Lanka. The people are very friendly and nice. Love the country.

Despite the stress and 7 hours (to and fro) journey from Kandy to Colombo to settle your visa extention, guess the ride there is worth it after your visa is finally extended to another 2 months. Oh gosh, l could feel how relieved you are after everything is finally done. Taxi driver is friendly and helpful and he even introduced you to a yummy dessert/ buffalo milk curd....so yummy that you go for a second helping 😋😋😄

Your taxi driver seemed like a very nice person. Knowledgeable, respectful and knows his way around. The two places you stopped, Jinadasa thala guli and the little kitul treacle place in Molagoda are some of my favorite places along kandy road. Keep his contact for your next excursions. Such good drivers are hard to come by.

I had this same issue last time I went to Sri Lanka. I thought they would have improved by now since the economy depends so much on tourism. But Sri Lankan government offices seem to run on different ⏰️

To clear a confusion : you are right when u said its like youghurt. It is yougurt in other countries, but in Sri Lanka we call it curd. What we call youghurt is a different kind of thing. Only learnt about this recently when I went overseas. And you only got half the experience of the kottu, the chopping of kottu is an experience of its own. When u walk in the streets, u might hear a rhythmic chopping noices from restaurants, thats how kottu is usually made

At 11.12 what you ate was buffalo Curd (yoghart) with kithul treacle. Kithul is a local palm tree where it tapped from the tree

The desert that you eat is "kiri pani". Its buffalo curd (similar to Greek yogurt I heard) and palm syrup (kitul palm/ wine palm tree) or kitul treacle.

I also wonder how could it be USD1000 to extend the visa for another two months and while initial visa fee was USD35 only for one month.

Yes The Srilankan online Or ETA has serious problems. When I was trying to apply for it, it wouldn’t go through and kept trying for more than 10 times and finally went through. Their Visa system is outdated they need a better or updated one so it’s not so pain in the neck for travelers.

First month 35USD and next two months for 100USD is not a perfect deal for tourists, it’s should be lesser than that, tourism is much needed inflow for us, I am sorry for your visa frustration, that is curd much better than yoghurt and it’s healthy with kithul treacle, and regarding Kathu, the way he prepared is not delicious, the Koththu with its preparation sounds you can feel the taste, you will get better then this in any ordinary koththu shops

I don't think foreigners can claim SL lottery winnings, btw lottery jackpots are starting at 50 million Rupees.. did you check your numbers, you can check online, just type the lotter name and look it up 😊

5:49 - did he say "jaggery"? I looked it up a while back, it's raw sugar. Sort of a crude, unrefined brown sugar. 11:53 - Looks like Haier's made it to Sri Lanka. Shouldn't be surprised, really.. 😁 RM3 for 4 cups of the dessert - I think you've found somewhere cheaper than Malaysia.. 😁 16:00 - it's kind of like nasi goreng except that you use chopped bread instead. There's an Indian restaurant here where the staff claimed to have invented this dish - they called it "roti goreng". 😂

@@All_About_Coc Oh for sure. This was just the one restaurant, and the only reason they offered it to us was because we were friendly with the cooks, because we ate there a lot. "New invention, boss" they said - it wasn't actually on the menu. What I wonder now is whether one of the cooks had visited Sri Lanka, or had relatives there. In this type of restaurant, the workers were all foreigners, from South India (mainly from Tamil Nadu) - they get hired, stay here for a few years, save money and go home. I haven't been to that restaurant in a while, they've probably forgotten all about "roti goreng" by now because it's all new people.

It is made of buffalo milk and the sugary stuff is called treacle (made of coconut toddy). Kottu is not the staple food of Sri Lanka but it is popular.
