One brilliant band covering another. I only found this recording by accident after going to see TFC recently. They have a great way of accentuating covers with their own style and this is one of their best.

This may very well be my favorite cover by TFC and favorite instrumental track of all time. This just begs to be the highlight of a film soundtrack with a scene of a cross-country road trip with a theme of reflecting on one's life, and it is a different energy than Yo La Tengo's original (which is equally great, just different). Just so awesome how same song, played by my all-time favorite band (the Fannies) and another of my top-25ish favorite bands (YLT) means something and feels different to me.

This is such a great song. This version is not quite YLT good, but TFC is such a consistently excellent band in the own right, that putting the two together just seems to make sense. I'm going to see Yo La Tengo tomorrow night and will be hoping to hear this classic track.

It's better IMO

@@docco007 No. It's very, very good. But it's not better, or even *as* good. That's an objective fact, for at least one reason: it lacks Ira Kaplan.

Decent. It's hard to cover a band that's easily one of the greatest cover bands ever.

This is alright, and interesting since YLT seems to have taken great inspiration from TF, so it's as if they're returning the favor. But it lacks the urgency of the orig version, so it sounds more like a shuffle than an intense guitar freakout.

Cool, though not as great as the many Yo La Tengo's studio version and their many live inspired interpretations. it's all in the Noise-rock portion !

imho Grand Prix was a tad overproduced and it was downhill from there as they lost their grunge / stoner / experimental edge
@tomoconnor9066 жыл бұрын
I think that album is a masterpiece. Their best work. I think their tripping point was choosing to produce Thirteen. With a Don Fleming or someone behind the board that album could have been even more epic, would have made them bigger stars. But, sadly - due to the production - radio wouldn't play it.
@bradfordpauler25383 жыл бұрын
@@tomoconnor906 oh yeah - teenage fan club! I kinda forgot - only heard them for a minute. They are or were reminiscent of the best power pop bands - big star, cheap trick, bad finger, raspberries - just to name the big ones. I'm just now listening to several recent yolatengo songs after only sort of hearing them in passing on college rock or other non commercial radio stations. What's a good recommendation with which to revisit teenage fan club?
@tomoconnor9063 жыл бұрын
@@bradfordpauler2538 I love Grand Prix! Their best album. But, Bandwagonesque is a perfect example of nineties indie power pop.
