I HIKED IRELAND STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN CUILCAGH MOUNTAIN FERMANAGH

In this video I hike to the Stairway to Heaven in Fermanagh, you'll find County Fermanagh in the south-west corner of Ireland, south of County Tyrone and west of County Armagh. The county is wrapped around Upper and Lower Lough Erne, with Enniskillen, its largest town, set right in the centre, Cuilcagh Mountain is one of the largest expanses of blanket bog in Northern Ireland can be traversed thanks to a one-mile boardwalk that opened in 2015. Locals call it the Stairway to Heaven - and when you’ve hiked it for yourself, you’ll see why. There’s a steep climb to reach the 2,185ft summit of Cuilcagh Mountain. It’s located in an area with a unique habitat and forms part of the Marble Arch Caves UNESCO Global Geopark, so be sure to spend some time in the nearby caves if you get a chance, the route meanders through one of the largest expanses of blanket bog in Ireland, traversing over tracks, boardwalk and staircase. A steep climb is required to reach the viewing platform on Cuilcagh Mountain which provides breath taking views of the surrounding low lands across towns such as Belcoo, Blacklion & Florencecourt. Cuilcagh (from Irish: Binn Chuilceach, meaning 'chalky peak' is a mountain on the border between County Fermanagh (in Northern Ireland) and County Cavan (in the Republic of Ireland). With a height of 665 metres (2,182 ft) it is the highest point in both counties. It is also the 170th highest peak on the island of Ireland, and Ireland's only cross-border county top. Water from the southern slope flows underground until it emerges some miles away in the Shannon Pot, the traditional source of the River Shannon. The area is sometimes referred to as the Cuilcagh Mountains.I highly recommend staying in Enniskillen if you plan to visit Cuilcagh as it's around a 15 min drive from the town and a great way to discover Ireland, Cuilcagh Legnabrocky Trail is one of the top 10 most scenic hikes in Ireland alongside Ballycotton Cliff Walk, Cork, Divis and the Black Mountain ridge trail, Belfast, Slieve Gullion, Co Armagh and The Causeway Coast, Co Antrim
How long does it take to walk the Cuilcagh Boardwalk?
The Cuilcagh Boardwalk is approximately 11km and takes on average 2-3 hours to walk.
Is Cuilcagh Boardwalk difficult?
It is rated as 'difficult' in the mountain walk guides, so be prepared for a good hike whenever you get there.

This car park is located a further 0.7 miles/1 km past the entrance for the Cuilcagh Boardwalk Trail. This car park is £5.00
