I’m super excited to share with you my entire Appalachian Trail Documentary! I consolidated all of my trail vlogs into one (kinda long) video. I think it took me longer to edit this than it did to hike the A.T.😅 Sorry if the volume is a little up & down.
To follow up on a few things that were left unclear:
- I did get cleared from the Lyme disease after I finished my medication.
- Evan did not test positive for Lyme and we never really figured out exactly what he had. But luckily he got better after a few weeks.
- I did travel back to North Carolina after-the-fact to finish the 6.6 mile section that was closed for a forrest fire. See the video here: • THE REUNION || Finishi...

Wow! What an epic! I know I’m biased, but this was such a thrill to watch. Great job with the voiceover, which made it completely different from all your other videos-I mean, anyone who’s seen the other ones will get something out of this new one too. And I liked how you were honest about the occasional tedium of a thru-hike. It didn’t take nearly as long as a thru-hike to watch it, but it was realistic enough to make me remember how tired I was toward the end! Fantastic!

I saw your tramily in another video. Congrats to you and your husband. Myself im turning 63 this year. I love watching these videos of hikers completing the AT. I did a thru hike back in 1977/78. The best time of my life. First from georgia to pa and then a year later from pa to maine. With two best friends. 6 years ago i lost my left left below the knee to a infected bone spur on my foot. A year to the day i was standing on top of springer mountain ready to do it again. Now being a amputee my trail name was given to me by a salesman at REI. It was Peg Leg. My trail name back in 77 and 78 was Big Foot. Only because i wear a size 18 1/2 EEEE boot. And everybody was saying look at that Big Foot. Yes, i hiked from georgia all the way to virginia before my hiking poles snapped in half. One hiker gave me a small bottle of spray called Stopain. This stuff worked great. Another hiker showed up named Walking stick. He made me two hiking poles out of tree branches. After 3 day0s i hiked into town and got a ride to the train station to catch a amtrack train back to jacksonville,fl. I only wanted to thru hike again to see all the changes that happened on the trail. Those new foot bridges crossing the highways. We crossed them all by walking across a 4 lane highway and walked thru so many creeks. You had it alittle bit easier. Also back in 77/78 there was nothing called lightweight gear. Eberything was very heavy. When i was younger my mom bought me a blue mummy bag. It was rated down to minus 30 degrees. It was made by a brand new company in the outdor field. Northface. That mummy bag weighs in at 6 pounds. My tent was a orange pup tent with a floor, that was 5 pounds. They worked very well back then. But now all my gear will be given to my grand daughters. They can use it if they join the brownies and or the girl scouts. The only thing i wished that i brought with me was my phone. I had no pictures of my trail angels that helped me out. I used a osprey atmos 55 backpack, a very light quilt, which was made here in the usa a jetboil stove with the coffee press. The same messkit that i used back on my first thru hike in memory of my great friend Danny who passed away from ALS the year before and a 3 man tent. Enough room for this 7 foot 3 inch tall man and my pack. I only carried alot of food and water. A 3 liter bladder and a 2 quart canteen. I also carried 3 cans of anchovies for the pizza that i nought at a hostle. 2 sticks of summer sausage and one stick of pepperoni. Plus a large zip lock bag of coffee, creamer and splenda. I had 2 cups of coffee with every meal. My favorite was stir fried rice wit fried up sliced summer sausage and my other was mashed potatoes and brown gravy. Breakfast0 was a clif bar or two poptarts. Lunch was a bite of pepperoni and dinner i ate good. The one meal i did not like was the pasta side dishes. They did not taste to me. The trail tried several times to call me back, but instead i thru hiked the Florida trail down and two days later hiked back up to my starting point. Thank you for scaring your trip. I say that from the bottom of my heart. On Feb 9th at 1300 hours i have a doctors appointment with a sinal surgeon. Then i will find out what procedure there going to do on my back. Back in march of last year i tjought i twisted my back. Alot of us amps twist there backs. My luck i found out i had a E-Coli infection on my spinal cord. Two weeks in the hospital getting a picc line line installed and putting in the best drugs into my body to kill the infection, then 2 months doing it at home. Then i found out if i waited another week or so,someone would have found me dead. Not a nice story to hear. So now i wait in pain. I can walk but not that far, matmybe 10 feet or so. And i dont like taking these narco pills for pain so i just take 4 asprine. Enough of me. Back to you liz, i hope you and your husband the best of luck and you keep in touch with your tramily. My only person on the trail i keep up with is Miss. Janet. She gave me a few rides into different towns. Shes a true teail angel. Best of luck in your life. Peg Leg

Great vid Liz! 👍🏻 I really enjoyed reliving your journey and your grand finale wedding on the summit of Mt. Katahdin. Can anything be more special? I am so glad you experienced this wonderful adventure and connecting with amazing people like Evan. I really enjoyed your fresh take via voice over. It is true, most of us live in the matrix and sometimes we do have to say "fudge it" and just go for it. Life is too short to be stuck in a rat race that sometimes feels as if going no where. I am glad you took the leap! Happy adventuring! 🌺

Liz, aka handstand, I stumbled upon Evan’s video first in my quest for knowledge about the AT. While awesome, I am so grateful it lead me to yours. I am 29 like you were preceding your thru hike and in the same boots my daddy also just passed, mine to an aggressive bout of lung cancer. I have thought about the AT since I was in high school, but always doubted myself to trek it alone. I doubt no more. AT 2021 for me baby. I don’t know you, but I love you. Hope to see you out there one day. Much thanks for the much needed push. With a little determination and luck I will be celebrating my 30th on the trail. Cheers, Erin

That is very hard core. To take time out of your lives to do this feat, is something you will have and remember for the rest of your lives. I am sooo impressed. I am from Australia and love the out doors and to see this, stirs me into wanting to do more. Gives me a hunger. It reminds me very much of Chris McCandless and his endeavours to walk out into the wilderness, get lost from society for a while and find accomplishment within it. To see you get Lyme Disease and push through it, shows just how determined and strong you are. WOW> I also had a tear in my eye when you spoke of your Father and the loss you have. Reminded me of my family losses. Looked like you made some great new friends and strengthened friendships you already had. Thankyou so so much for posting you journey. I got so much out of it. Great stuff.

Wow, Liz, I watched started watching Evan’s hiking videos of Sheltowee Trace because I have hiked many sections of it and then I watched most of his videos of his AT journey before watching your AT summary video. I was very surprised when I watched the summit of Katahdin portion. It made me cry. You are a beautiful person and I thank you and Evan for sharing your experiences with us.

Freaking awesome!! I am glad you followed that dream. Thanks for sharing it. The trail is like life, some times it rains (and rains and rains) sometimes it sow and sometimes it’s just to dam cold, but you move on. And just like life the blue bird day are ten fold full of joy!! I’m 15yrs in free and I know the struggles, stay strong God bless!

Such an amazing video!!! Im extremely great full for the opportunity to meet and hike with you. You and Luke are amazing people, and by far some of my favorite that I encountered on Trail. Wish I could have been there with you guys in the end. Take Care, Smokey.
