0:33 70 mph? Aren't those karts using Junior rotax engines? Those engines in competition karts top out at around 65-70 mph, with the senior/unrestricted engine maxing out around 75ish. In a heavy rental I don't think it could go over 60. Still very fast but not as fast as advertised.
@CameronDasRacing8 ай бұрын
I've definitely clocked over 60mph in these karts at a different track by GPS, but we ended up on the slower version of this track so definitely short of 70mph today.
@ieurobeatkids93788 ай бұрын
Yep, on average you were going around 52 mph down the back straight (just over 82.5 on the speedometer). Fastest I've found online for this track is 90kph/56 mph. Similar speeds as well at Sandown. Still not the 70 mentioned but extremely fast for a rental. Just about as fast on the straights as competition LO206 karts, which is a bit surprising despite 206 being 4-stroke. I thought the much lighter weight would make up for the engine power difference. Guess not. Wonder how they would compare over a whole lap. Hopefully this doesn't sound too annoying or pompus. I'm just a nerd who likes delving into car/kart performance lol. @@CameronDasRacing

Haha no you're probably right. I swear I have a video on my Instagram of the GPS saying over 60mph at Sandown but maybe I'm mis-remembering.

They definitely don’t do near 70mph, the highest speed I’ve got out of these karts is around 55mph tracked by gps on my GoPro and using racechrono, highly doubt they do above 60mph either it’s just a marketing ploy

Hahah tru…well the example I always give is when I took my race engineer karting in Valencia. He knew way more about car physics and vehicle dynamics than I do and was a master at explaining driving concepts, but I was still 4 seconds a lap faster on track. Even my manager was 1 second faster than the engineer. Point is that knowledge and experience are two different things, and I still have to practice before high level events to have winning pace. I’ve spent the last 6 months building the course instead of training so yes, I’m very consistent at the moment lol

I don't really get the "working together"' to catch up to the pack, like what do you mean by that? Catch eachothers slipstream and go like that or just not battling? Or let the faster one through so you don't lose too much time?
@UFCNERD8 ай бұрын
Slipstream/ bump pushing helps in karting. Think of it how nascar will bump draft to catch up. It’s the same theory. Typically you’ll tap your helmet to signal the person you just passed to work together and do this so you can catch up. Once you’ve made it to the leader or whoever’s ahead, it’s fair game.
@BradPhilpot8 ай бұрын
Yeah “work with me” means basically: Don’t fight me for no reason, as we have a chance to catch the next group of you stick in my tow instead. If the person behind also bump drafts you, then even better.

I honestly can't get why there is a minimum driver weight. Like you can just add 15 to 20 kilos. If your allowed to take extra weight with extra belast it makes sence to me
@Reuben_Mamelok8 ай бұрын
The minimum weight is to try and keep the field at as similar a pace as possible. This is important because say a 14 year old went against a 26 year old, both have no experience, the 14 weighs A LOT less (in general) which means that he will be quicker off the bat, just because less weight means the wheels have less weight pushing on them, less friction, means moving quicker. So in general, you really don’t want ballast on the kart, because it makes you slower no matter the conditions; other than the wet, because you need less wheel spin, and more weight pushing the wheels into the track, allowing for more grip. So in general, the less weight on the kart the quicker you go
