Interesting ,,,trans fluid goes through a heat exchanger/cooler integrated with the radiator to maintain fluid at stable temp.. but yes always good to have more fluid,,,if you allow to drip overnight or for 24 hours you will get an extra litre of old fluid out.. but still the amount you get will vary from one time to another ,,usually around 3.5 to 4.5 litres.

That is good to know, which makes sense on letting it drip as some DIY experience a 3.5 to 4.5 draw from each service. Yes the exchanger does assist especially from a brand new radiator. This pan supports lower temps on highway pulls or speeds from 60mph and higher. The added benefit of fluid is beneficial also.

For this trans with the pan, yes, mostly other than the updated pan and updated transmission pump. It has been refreshed.

It is hidden behind covers. What kind of temperature improvement can it be?

On 5G Mercedes gearbox , oil is measured when the gearbox is in the D or R position, not P or N!

This is very wrong. Search for 722.6 PDF Make sure you measure out your dipstick with a ruler to make sure it's correct, the manual will have dimensions. Drive the car for 20-25 minutes, park on level ground, leave the car in park while it's running, and dip the stick in, you should be within the measurements on your stick. Again, download and read that PDF document it is very useful.

Only reason you put it in drive is to go through the sequence after the trans oil change.
