Some suggestions: -Don't make the player controls like a standard fps controller. The original game does not control like a 2D controller but rather editor like interface in 2D. So maybe make a camera system like in most engines where you can fly with WASD, pan, zoom, look around, orbit. -Make the player be able to grab things with his mouse so that it is more convenient to use tools. -If you wanna keep the standard fps controller add a button or something that switches between fps look and the editor look

No I think since it's unity they're able to just make a 3d space. The original game is 2d and all these models are 3d recreations

in unity 2d is actually just a 2d plane in a 3d space with the camera positioned to look at it. So like they still had to recreate everything but it already technically supported 3d objects

they made the game 3d easily because unity (the game engine ppg is made in) actively supports 2d and 3d in the same project meaning they just had to put in a bunch of effort into making 3d models and converting vector 2s to vector 3s

people playground uses the unity engine, "2d" games in unity are basically the same as a 3d game so this modder must of made maps for people playground off the base game but made a 3d version of the game as a "map", thats how i think they did it for those people blown away, but still very impressive

This is 3D because the game runs natively on a 3D engine. I'm willing to bet a lot of the models are straight asset rips with little editing, if not just modified to be 3D with some tweaks. It's going to be a total conversion mod if the dev doesn't lose interest in the project so that'll be interesting, that is a lot of work. But getting the game to boot in 3D from base? Wouldn't be too hard, you'd just need to unlock the axis for any objects you want to interact with but there's no guarantee any of them will be modeled right lmao

To explain how this is even possible, People Playground was made in Unity. Unity’s 2D mode isn’t actually 2D, the camera just doesn’t use the 3D perspective. Coordinates for objects are still X Y Z. Just mess with level geometry and some new scripts and boom. It also makes VR possible, fun fact.

Part of it is probably. i won't say easy but easier than if it were a custom engine because PPG is made in Unity, which has native support for 2D and 3D, as someone who's worked with it 3D is still kinda sorta baked into 2D unity, so I'm sure that's at least what made it possible
