One thing I also think you could've touched on is that a lot of people (even without realizing it) are self medicating with this stuff. Anyone with demons is gonna have a hard time quitting because it makes your brain chill out. A lot of young men have PTSD and don't believe in therapy / seeking help for it and end up resorting to drugs. Everyone I knew addicted to this stuff had serious issues with anxiety / depression but didn't know how to talk about it or really express that. It's like a small loan on quality of life that ends up accumulating credit via your physical and mental health, and at some point the opportunity to "get better" becomes more like "stop any more damage" because when you hit whippets for years there is no getting better, only not getting worse. For people like Kanye who have bipolar, there is a lot of evidence as to why nitrous gas would appeal to him; it's just that longterm, it will really make him even worse.
