I attended 3 clearing sessions with a friend at age 17 also. I’m now in my 50s and STILL get mail from SeaOrg & Scientology (I’ve moved 6-7 times, married & changed my name, divorced, remarried… they’re relentless. 😅

Leah Reminey (sp?) did a fantastic job shedding light on this cult after she got out. Several former high-ranking officers joined her in going public. The "Church" would constantly stalk her and the production crew, trying time after time to shut them down via legal and not so legal measures. I can only hope she's continuing to save others still.

Yeah, that's entirely marketing. In terms of beliefs a mix of mediocre self-help books, mid 20th century pulp science fiction (L. Ron Hubbard was a sci-fi novelist before he created Scientology) and a little bit of Eastern religion thrown in there (it loosely borrows a lot of concepts from the dharmic religions like Buddhism). In terms of practices it's a greedy, lawsuit driven corporation with a large paramilitary arm (Hubbard was a naval officer in World War II, and created the "Sea Org", the full-time members of the cult, to model military life), that thinks it's above the law and has an avowed goal to conquer the world no matter the cost.

I've consumed a ton of accounts for over two decades and still occasionally find accounts that surprise me. my great aunt was lowkey in it and tried to push the books on me (which is what started my research) and wooooo the infectious explosiveness is a real thing.

I don't mind the validity of any of these. I enjoy them, regardless. One little thing that I have to force myself not to let get to me, though, is that the majority of the stories have a "let's not meet again" or "if you are reading this, let's never meet". Hearing the same exact statement from, supposedly, multiple different people is very immersion breaking, after a while. Mostly, because I've never heard a single person, in person, speak with that particular mannerism. Just a quirk of mine. Carry on, and thanks for the stories.

The scientology story reminds me when A former friend took advantage of me. He would tell me to avoid talking to my parents and friends, always ask momey, and take away my time. I reacted the same way the poster did when my family found out about my car looking very dirty from the person smoking in it. Groups aren't the only things that can control you.

The last story, if they had come from Scandinavia... They would not have been speaking English! They would have spoken their home language. Norwegian, Swedish and Danish are the main countries that are Scandinavia. Finland may be included. That couple would not be speaking English unless one of them was not Scandinavian?
