Yea... As a kid I thought the Middle Earth Mumakil model was the biggest since back then the next GW I knew was in a Mall in another town a 45min drive away. I was a huge fan of lord of the rings when I was 10 and therefore loved gawking at the models especially that giant elephant. Since I didn't pay attention to the other models but was only on the lookout for Middle Earth models to admire I never really noticed anything else that had similar size... Might be that 10yo me overlooked one or the other imperial knight in the display window or even on a table... Mini me only had the mission to find out if there was an Eowyn mini since she was my favorite character. Now I'm living 500km south of where I grew up for studying and I'm into 40k for more than a year now, working on the beginning of a imperial guard army and I got myself Eowyn to be painted as a display model. Thanks boyfriend! He got me into 40k and a while after we got together as a couple. Sadly last years struggles didn't allow any training games in the local store an the store in the mall isn't around anymore for several years and I'm still waiting for the 9th edition codex for my Guardsmen...

As the painted up vehicle bay is visible from the back, and the manta is on such a steep angle from the crash, it would be fun to paint up a few tau vehicles all smashed up and burnt at the lowest front end of the bay. So the final organisms of a Hive Fleet are usually the big siege behemoths, and Ripper Swarms. Rippers devour the leftover biomass and then hop into some pools that get sucked up by the fleet. It's logical to have some sort of smaller clusters of eggs that could then hatch out to continue the devouring. As for what organisms a hive fleet sends out to scout new planets, genestealers and lictors are usually the first that come to mind. They can work independently of the hive mind, and can also build up a sort of biomass-beacon for the main fleet to home in towards. Keep in mind tyranid DNA also mutates local wildlife and plants, so anything goes for, say, the fish in the lake.

About the Tyranids, lorewise only Hormagaunts reproduce by laying eggs on the ground (Termagants come from Tervigons or spores usually), so I'd use them, with some rippers maybe (even tho they come later during an infestation usually) and a Lictor lurking somewhere in the background like a chameleon hunting the last fire warrior or scouting the area. Top/bottom half of a Reavener burrowing around and emerging in/submerging from the egg chamber can also be a cool idea. While about the Genestealer Cult, it's really odd to see them outside heavy populated areas, but some lesser hybrids attending and feeding a nest of hibernated purestrain genestealers with remains of Tau corpses (freshly digged from the cemetery) can be a nice concept. Still, I'd go with Necron stasis chambers with sleeping warriors guarded by a Tomb spider and some swarms, over Genestealer Cult instead. But why not both, right? Also, about the lake part, if the fire warrior is fishing, I'd love to see ripper swarms as a school of fish, with one of them biting on the hook! Love your work so far guys!

A servo skull somewhere watching. And you could have a dreadnought sarcophagus hinted at barely sticking out of the ground. With the idea being that the servo skull is recording this so that a force of imperials will come to reclaim the dreadnought.

Have read a few comments about using a mawloc or parts of one which I think is a great idea as they do burrow, it could be "making the cave" for the other nids. Use of uhu glue for stringy ichor may look cool as well

Anymore, anyt hing with water I use marine plywood, this was awesome, nice work , edit, also when stacking your foam blocks to avoid them from coming apart make two holes on each peice of and cut out two dowels, and hot glue those , or u can also runs a metal rod through it

emal need to start hitting the hardware store over the hobbie store, use liquid nail instead of pva glue when you glueing the 4x2 wood and the pink foams together, use 4 wires to glue the matra to floating in air then use expansion foam for instead of cutting those pink one for hours for the mountain such a time saver. also would of saved huge amount of money

Aswell as graves you could put some of the tau helmets on spikes as other graves just like they did in the clone wars final season. Also would be great if you built a makeshift lookout tower that the tau has built on the peak of the mountain by the crash

I would love to see a lictor in the Mantas Vents.

For LED i suggest to use them from LeEGO light kits. They are mini and easy to work with. This is great to follow. Ove the work!

The back left of the diorama has a rock spire that's higher then the engines of the Manta, this makes it look like manta fell straight down instead of gliding down into the mountain. I think the top of this spire should be shaved and showing the damage of the manta on the terrain. The spire could have been flung forward and scattered the area with debris making it more dynamic.

Some hormagaunts swarming from a mountain side across onto the portside wing would look incredible

Great job and project.... Sculp mold is my go-to to blend everything together....

I think it’d be clever to place lictors just in view of the diorama yet placed and painted to be subtle. Then, as you go lower in the diorama you begin to see the death and decay brought about by roaming tyranid bio forms as they patrol the caves and guard hatcheries. I just think that a more spacious diorama would be better than one which is cluttered with mini’s as all too often, that’s what we see in Dioramas. Love the series and the progress made has been fantastic!

Battle damage on the manta like it got blown out of the sky could be a nice touch

I think it would be super cool if you ran wires down to the cave from the ship. To put off the feel that the lone soldier is using the power of the ship to power his lights and stuff in the cave.

Comes along nicely. Although I would have liked to see some damage on the Manta, T'au letters on the ship instead of the "human" ones and as an addition, let there be a second T'au. The one you want to let fishing and his last buddy, taking a swim, while an aquatic conversion of a Tyranid below the water is about to make the fisher the lone survivor. On a Diorama of this size, only using standard models without own conversions seems like a missed opportunity. ;)

Maybe having a kitbashed Norn-queen in the back of the egg cave would be cool. Just to really give it that Aliens feel.

It’s looking great so far and the concept is awesome. I’d be tempted to add another central support to the base if you can as mdf isn’t that strong at about 1/4 the strength of a solid piece of wood. I learnt this the hard way using it for book shelves and having to add strips of pine later to stop them sagging.
