He's among one of the pure martial artist after Jackie Chan
@windowsVD3 жыл бұрын
@@raheemyusof6506 Jackie Chan isn't a pure martial artist though. His training background is in acrobatics and stunt performance first, then martial arts second. Donnie Yen and Jet Li are pure martial artists, and are both more proficient at martial arts than Jackie Chan, as they lived and breathed martial arts since they were kids. But they lack Jackie Chan's experience as a stuntman, which is why Jackie Chan's films feature him doing insanely dangerous stunts that you wouldn't see in a Jet Li or Donnie Yen film.
@JeremiahConnor3 жыл бұрын
@@windowsVD define a pure martial artist, though...because I would TOTALLY disagree in your assessment that Donnie and Jet are more "proficient" in martial arts than Jackie. Btw...not coming at you here...this is a debate I get into regularly with people close to me...I truly believe in this elite company that you bring up that in a real one on one fight...Jackie would come out on top.

I worked nights with a guy who taught classic five animal style kung fu as a day job. He's the person who turned me on to thee movies. He claimed that the representation of Wing Chun in this movie was about 97% accurate. Hollywood often has to alter the moves for...well Hollywood reasons. Safety, stunts, visual look, etc.
@windowsVD3 жыл бұрын
@@JeremiahConnor I kind of already did. Donnie Yen and Jet Li lived and breathed martial arts since they were kids. Martial arts was the one and only craft that got them into show business. Prior to becoming movie stars, they had pretty much dedicated their lives to their martial arts craft. Jackie Chan on the other hand, grew up training in acrobatics and stunt performance, while also included martial arts. I mean, Jackie literally grew up in a Chinese Opera School, training to be an entertainer and performer. He even helped produced a movie about it as a tribute to his teacher there. Like I said, Jackie is essentially a stunt performer who also knows martial arts. Whereas for Jet Li and Donnie Yen, martial arts was their bread and butter since they were kids. In a pure one on one martial arts battle in their prime, Jackie would unfortunately lose simply because the other guys are martial arts specialists. Maybe he'd stand a chance against Jet Li, but he would be completely outmatched against the likes of Donnie Yen who has spent his life continually perfecting his craft and is a master of many martial arts techniques.

Fun fact: IP Man’s style of fighting, Wing Chun, was actually originally developed by women as a form of self-defense. Bruce Lee took the things he learned from IP Man & adapted them into his own style, which (I believe) was the origin of Jeet Kune Do. Edit: it’s a little harder to find (especially with English subtitles), but you should also check out “IP Man, The Legend Is Born”, which is loosely based off his childhood/teenage years.

Filmmaker Wong Kar Wai's "The Grand Master" also tells the story of IP Man. A little different style. Worth watching tho!
@portee91133 жыл бұрын
The essence of Jeet Kune Do is that it has no "style".... it incorporates moves from many different disciplines, but the system itself will differ from person to person as people are shaped differently, and think differently. Some moves will be better from some than others, so have people train to their strengths. Kareem Abdul Jabar for instance was taught in a way to utilize his huge reach advantage.
@tatfly57793 жыл бұрын
Fun fact that's a lie.At the time wing chun was formed women had no place on frontlines or in fights.(no rights whatsoever).It is another thing the west is trying to change in history.After the time period of this film wing chun would be populorized as a self defence for all,after which it would gain popularity amongst women as a self defence art.I love history and despise any who would try to change it.Especially if you see the change happen in the span of 10 years cuz some ashats don't respect their history.

Ip man also trained Chu Shong Tin, who then trained my Sifu :) the quick punching you saw was chain punching and it works as both attack and defense due to the position of the arms. Wing Chun is trained in 3 forms with siu lim tao (little idea in english) being the foundation. the movements are trained for years with the focus being on muscle relaxation, much like how a drunk person is harder to carry than a sober one, a person who is relaxed has a better center of mass and is able to transfer there strength with very little effort or energy usage. The martial art was originally created by a Shaolin nun of the name Ng Mui and as such it was developed in a way that allowed a smaller less strong person the ability to maximise their potential and defeat an opponent of a bigger size. I recommend learning Wing Chun, but I also recommend researching the Sifus in your area, as good Wing Chun looks very similar to bad Wing Chun...the difference is internal e.g muscle control. A good teacher/master (Sifu) will not teach you Wing Chun fast, a good teacher/master (Sifu) will teach you right and, train your body to react from the inside out, which takes time and dedication. But it's worth it!
@apoptosisduellinks1092 жыл бұрын
I've also heard that if you want to learn to defend yourself, and want to do wing chun, you should go to a school were they spar / pressure test (not counting sticky hands), and preferably not just wing chun vs. wing chun.

@@goldenageofdinosaurs7192 Gotta get him to react to it. There's a LOT of Kurosawa films that would blow him away.

Donnie Yen trained to actually punch that fast, but just think of how fast the real Ip Man must have been

I watched all 4 movies from your title on this alone. I was so impressed. The last 3 movies have English voice overs for the most part. At least where I watched them, but you should check out the rest. It's exaggerates Ip man's life a bit, but depicts him pretty respectfully. Also, part 4 has Scott Adkins in it from the Undisputed movies which in my opinion are must watch. Some of the coolest fight scenes you'll ever see for sure. More in movies 2, 3, and 4. Tony Jaa is pretty damn amazing as well. You should check out The Protector. There's a really cool continuous fight scene that they filmed 10 times which is insane. Dude has stamina for days.

One thing you probably didn't understand, at the beginning the buy who went to challenge all the martial art master on the street, they were from the northern part of China, they spoke different dialect than Yip Man and the people from the City, that's why they asked Yip Man to redeem themselves after losing to the Northern Chinese

Yessss I love the Ip Man series. Donnie Yen is amazing. He makes the best martial arts movies since Jackie Chan and Jet Li. Great pick brother!
