This episode alone made this show rise higher to me than any other show ❤ good for you Andy. And the end of it too is so gut wrenching

I always loved Andy for this. Yes, a woman has a right to choose what she does with her own body. But should that give her the right to kill another person simply because that person is inside her body and incapable of advocating for itself? Some people think so. I don’t. Some people rationalize by dehumanizing the child, but no matter what name you call it, it is still a human being with its unique biology from the woman who carries it. It's not wrong to value life before it's able to contribute to society. I would argue it is wrong to devalue life just because it hasn't had the time or support to reach its potential yet. But women get so caught up in the fear of losing rights of their own that they forget the most basic human right we all have. The right to exist.

Well said, and thank you for saying that.

Yes. This. A woman can make a decision for herself. But not for the human growing inside of her. Life begins at conception and people have gotten so caught up in “my body my choice “ that they seem to have forgotten something. What about the baby’s body? Why are you making a choice for them?

I think that regardless of where you stand on this issue, this episode did an amazing job of discussing it tactfully and while showing that it's not black-and-white. Andy is, especially by the standards of 2003ish or whenever exactly this show aired, a textbook liberal. But because of his own personal experiences, his thoughts on this particular issue have changed over time. Meanwhile, Harold, again, by the more moderate standards of when this episode was released, was a pretty typical conservative. But, his own life experiences had instilled an ethical responsibility to do something that went against his own morals, and he upheld that obligation despite it being both terrible and terrifying for him to do so. Even though it may not always be easy to see them, and it's probably gotten even more difficult in the years since this episode, we're all shades of grey.

If only we could force everyone in America to watch this 45 minute episode of a show that--just as narrator Irv once said--has been forgotten by time. This show has the neutral viewpoint that we need to have as humans, and walks the line right down the middle of the aisle perfectly. I've never seen any show before or since do a better job. It was ahead of its time...sadly, the things that Dr. Abbott talks about elsewhere in the episode--women coming in hurt, sterile, mutilated, etc. because they didn't have any other option but to do their own abortion--is again a realistic scenario. The clock has been set back 150 years by bad politics. I've always rode the fence, just like this show. I never felt abortion should be used as a contraceptive for someone who made a choice to have unprotected sex, but for victims of any type of rape, underage girls, and any woman who finds out she will likely die in childbirth if she carries the baby to term--especially when the baby itself will likely be stilborn--we need to have this option on the table for those women, regardless of our politics. Those who feel otherwise are sick in my opinion. Not everything is black and white--this show portrays that mindset perfectly. Again--if we could only get everyone to watch...
