I agree about keeping weight lower down but it doesn't make much sense to me to have your sleep system at the bottom of the dry bag. Emptying the dry sack to get out the sleeping bag & then emptying it again to put it back in sounds like a waste of energy & complicating what should be a simple act. With the ILBE pack, which has side zippers so you can access the entire inside without unpacking, it would be easier to keep your sleeping system in a separate dry bag so you could then just pull it out & put it back in without having to unpack everything.

Blacktimberw . Unfortunately the side zippers arent big enough to get the mss out of it. Not that big of a hassle to unpack, since all my gear are in their own stuff sacks and my shelter is always setup before I unpack. I like the single dry bag because i can fill it with air easily to cross rivers with. Thanks for your comment.

Him putting his ecw sleep system in the dry bag actually improves getting it into this pack, the compression system on the stuff sack for the sleeping bag has buckles that tend to hang up when loading and unloading it from these packs. He's also correct about where the sleeping bag should be packed, as close to the hips as possible. In my younger years I was a climbing guide, this pack has made several evolutionary steps forward from the original Lowe Expedition packs. The designers knew what they where doing when it comes to heavy weight carrying performance in the internal frame design.

If that Silky saw is a Gomboy-sized saw, they fit well in an Eagle pop-flare pouch. Keeps it more secure than just putting it in the outside pocket.

Nice pack, have considered one. One question, if you were to carry a light tent, would you put it in your pack on top of your sleep system or would you mount it outside the pack? (like possibly the bottom) since you said to keep the heavier items down low. Seems like it would be a pain digging it out of the bottom of the pack, since you would (or I, would want to set up shelter, first thing).

Jeff Richards , i always keep my shelter components on the outside of my pack, so yes when I carry a tent I usually strap it to the bottom and sides.

Thanks, appreciate the info. Right now I'm trying to figure out the best way to pack my medium ALICE pack w/the "Hellcat" mod I've done to it. Would like to try out the ILBE. Take care, you have a great and informative channel and explain things very well.

I have this pack, but missing the shoulder straps. Do you know where I can get the ILBE shoulder straps?

Try Ebay, thats your best bet at finding them.

@@49thParallelwildernessrescue Thanks for your quick response. Ebay doesn't have them, nor Amazon, nor any of the Army surplus stores in TX that i've contacted. It's frustrating. Thanks again for your quick response

@@Spaceman-jo5mz if your still looking for shoulder straps, HPG, Granite Gear and mystery ranch have gear that will probably match the Arcteryx designed ILBE, waist belt too.

dandan771616 he put a food pouch in there but I didn’t see any water. Hingis look real easy on camera but they aren’t so easy in real life. He said in a previous video that he carried 110lbs on a trip with that bag. SHIT !!! I just carried 32.5lbs in a 5.11 rush 72 for a mile and my back almost broke. I’m no weakling, I’m 5’-8” 175. I bench 235 for 4 sets of ten reps to warm up. I do 4 sets of 10 pull-ups to warm up my back workout and I’ve also been practicing martial arts for 8 years. JKD and Filipino Kali.

@@concernedpatriot.2221 Thats the point, the ILBE is far more confortable to carry heavy loads than other packs. Even if I go in a "40L" trip, I do prefer take my ILBE half loaded, this beauty really saves your back.
