Ha! me too. I'm 55 and used to ride steel framed 10-speeds on old dirt bike trails in the 70's. We still rode using the roadie bars (with those funky extra hand brake levers), but we all removed our rear brakes, because our steel rims would get so out of round and drag! Techically we were mountain biking, before it was a 'thing' - we loved it.

Progress, then crash ... that's what prohibits me, now age 71, from having a "send it" attitude these days. Crashes that used to be mostly accepted as nuisance realities of MTB - mostly just inconveniences - have become serious hazards to a healthy future. Bones are more brittle and injuries take much longer to heal. Sense of balance is also not what it used to be, even 20 years ago. Though more capable in gnarly conditions, bicycles are also several times more expensive than they were 30 or 40 years ago, and I don't want to damage my bikes. I'm envious of the good times and thrills available to under-40 riders, especially with the huge choices of trails and highly capable bikes available now. As for your undertaking of MTB skills at 40, good for you. I didn't really start feeling the heavier consequences of age until I got into my 60's. With care and a bit more caution than is typical of your younger brethren, you've got another 15-20 years of high quality mountain biking ahead of you. Best of luck!

41yrs young down here in Australia and not unlike most here il can assume, that adulting also grab my focus. It called dibs and told my inner young fella to rack off, go and hide and wAit to be found. Well that was almost 20years ago but eventually adulthood found a way with a more balanced approach and iv been back on mtb for a couple of years now. Again il assume like most here not only rekindling the love of a almost forgotten passion from the past but also opening up a whole new side of mtb with a world enjoyment to be shared with family, the kids and their mates. Even finding some common ground amongst their adults from time to time. We all might be up a creek thats full of shit, with not a single paddle in site but at least we are all in the boat together. Thanks for share RD 🙏🏻 and to the rest of y’all please remember that the weekdays spent on the clock at work are for heeling. Healing from any limits being push from the past weekend so hitting the upcoming one fresh af, well a 41 year young/old. Yeha.💃🏼

Great job! Jumping is something I have always lacked confidence in. From my childhood days racing MX, in my 20's racing BMX, and now approaching 40 this summer riding MTB, I just don't feel comfortable hitting anything with a gap, or much longer than a bike length. As a kid I was just too scared to get hurt because it well... hurt. Now, as you hinted, having a wife, kids, a career, my mind is ride to have fun, but also being sure I can wake up the next morning to tackle life responsibilities. Not sure I'll ever have that urge to conquer these fears, for now I'm comfortable taking on challenging trials with my tires on the ground (mostly).

Well done vid and thanks for the inspiration. I love the way you showed the 3 year progression. It's important to understand that jumping takes time to learn. And100% know the feeling of progressing nicely then BAM a crash sets you back. It's part of the process for many of us if you really want to learn to get in the air. I'm in my low 50's and recently broke my wrist and a couple ribs, and this one has really set me back. The risk/reward is something you really need to work out and comes to terms with. That feeling of launching in the air and being in control is incredible, but as the bones age and the responsibilities don't it's so important to have EVERYTHING dialed before you commit.
@RydenDirty
@RydenDirty Жыл бұрын
Man those are some hard facts!! Risk vs reward just doesn’t pan out sometimes. Sometimes you have to just let it go till the next time. Hence the 3 years to hit this jump. Hope you ride on bro and keep the stoke alive🤘

Jeeez im turning 38 in August. My Sons are 7 and 9. The older began to whole jump his first tables this season. The younger is going to soon. I explained them how to. I know exactly how the technique behind it works. But my brain is not 7/9 anymore and is always in worries. Im doing progression. Step by step. Got a good motivation boost from your video. Thanks! 🙌🏻

54 here riding in Kansas. I just cannot stop doing this. I am a little curious as to why there are so many of us that are over 40. I ride and rarely see a younger person riding. For me it is a high. I will stop, take some water, listen to the nature, and it is spiritual at times. I don't do big jumps but love the trails and the more difficult the better.

Im only 23, tho i dreamt about riding my whole life, i used to ride bmx but lack of small jumps( we had only some huge trails) and lack of community made me start other sports, than when i finished HS i started riding scooters again ( skateparks) got quite good, then had an injury of overtraining ( karate, gym , skatepark, lots of hip effort and got rekted) barely could walk first year , but last year i started to move more normally again ( lots of recovery) and now im ready to start trying again. I got 3rd place in a local skatepark comp with the scooter this summer , but i always wanted to ride bmx again, especially dirt jumps. I got lucky and someone built the first resi indoor in our country so im planning to go visit and learn to jump there, maybe someday im gonna feel decently ready to ride some actual dirt, until then its indoor skateparks for me, hope i survive those too ;D So happy for your journey !!! #joyride

@@RydenDirty Thank you and you too !!! Scooters are for sure easier than bmx/bikes mostly bcz u can bail much easier and the crashes are softer ( most of the time), maybe more tehnical i'd say but def safer. Love em all ;D

I’m 43. Grew up riding bmx dirt but took about 10 years off mtb to do other things. My kids are at the age where they wanted to start trail riding so I got back into it. A campground we were staying at had a nice pump track with two nice table tops at the end. Well I got a little to big for my britches and over shot the landing big time. I now out of work for at least two months with a separated shoulder. When I get back at it I have to just take it easy. I have a physical job so I need my body working properly for that first.
