Pretty good for a first go around. A little advice: Weight paint before you texture the model so you can see how things bend and stretch. In that way you can see how the textures will deform/ stretch when you do get around the texturing.
@impawsibles

Thank you for the advice! That's a reasonable way to go about it. For me I just didn't have an issue with that and it's just the way it was taught in the guide I was following.

For auto rig pro to work, you need to create your own rig, then bind it to the model using addon.
@impawsibles
@impawsibles 4 күн бұрын
Yep! As you can see, auto rig pro very much bound itself to the rig

I mean bond it to your OWN vrm compatable rig, not the rig created with ARP itself. I usually create vrm pre made rig and then adjust with this method.

Wow! Honestly fantastic work in general but especially for your first time using blender! Ive been using the program for about 3 years and while to be fair I only recently have dabbled into the anime art style of 3d I have to say personally this looks awesome! Always love seeing people get introduced to the hell that is learning blender, especially people who already have an artistic background, once you get through that phase its a blast (that is until you find a new thing you need to learn and the cycle restarts lol)

And autorig pro is very useful for a quick rig that's animation ready, but for a rig like this you encountered that weight paint nightmare... If you ever revisit making another model try out the vrm add-on for blender! It gives you a basic armature that's vtuber ready, parent it and clean up the weights! ^w^

@ZavierSosa That means so much, thank you! I actually used the vrm add-on in this project. Auto rig pro just didn't want to work with me there

Fun fact: If you have an ipad, and procreate, you can export the file as an .obj file and send it to ur ipad via email, docs, or google drive - however u wanna do it - and you can draw on the 3D model itself in procreate. It's not the best.. but it beats drawing on a single plane when it's meant to represent a 3d object in my opinion 💃It's a bit of a niche thing with ipad and procreate, but I hope that knowledge helps someone. Honestly found out bc i was HATING blender's texture painting
@impawsibles
@impawsibles 11 күн бұрын
That IS such a fun fact! I love how accessible model making is with so many different ways of doing it. Also hard agree, that does sound better than blender's texture painting!

@@impawsibles It takes a lot to learn but blenders texture painting is extremely good, there's not a lot of common knowledge around it though so it mostly requires reading blender documentation extensively, watching other 3D artists like Snow Hunter, Shonzo, Mr Zingy, etc, learning techniques that way. There's a LOT of tools that are available which may be unfamiliar to traditional 2D artists as well which us 3D artists take advantage of. The UV's are also extremely important when texturing and the way you organize them, format them, etc. A good tip is to use something like DeepL to accurately translate your native language to Japanese, and then search in Japanese about UV techniques for anime styled models, as there's usually a lot of in depth documentation, study, and forums made by Japanese artists which usually is very hard to come by elsewhere. Tools like Mio3 UV (for UV's), and UCUPaint (for Texture Layering) also make our lives so much easier and are basically a necessity at this point for a lot of us 3D artists making models in this style. Blender by itself is amazing but usually lacks some essential or hugely time saving features which can be introduced with the help of add-ons. It's especially easy now since blender has added a new live add-ons feature which lets you connect to the cloud and install them with just 1 click, no need for installing files and then manually selecting them, and manually updating them. Blender also requires all add-ons uploaded to their website to be completely free for all users which makes it great for people who may also be starting out and can't afford to pay for any add-ons.

Additionally, the topology is quite a huge factor as well with how your model deforms, how it unwraps and if it's clean or not when texturing on it. Texture stretching and deformation of important parts of the model like the face and hands can all be done amazingly with proper topology, it just takes a lot of topology study, and again I recommend looking at Japanese forums and documentation for this as I've personally found it to have a lot of important information that I was unable to find elsewhere.
@kalegrape8510
@kalegrape8510 11 күн бұрын
@@LuxPhantasia My problem with blender's texture painting is I don't have an easy way to do connect a tablet/pencil to it, and it honestly shouldn't require needing to read documentation extensively. While you can argue blender is not really user friendly to begin with, the texture painting is even less so. But all of those resources you gave sound really good, I might go and watch them myself. But hard agree on topology - especially for the face. I went from making low poly-runescape ahh looking characters to trying to make one with proper face topology, and oh boy, its very different but you can see the difference when you do it correctly so much better. Even just finding a "3d model face topology" reference image and plopping it into blender works so well and gives guidelines that you can then adjust. Kinda funny that japanese forums have such better studies and information out there, but I believe it tbh. Is there a site you use particularly?

@@impawsibles It really is nice that there's a lot of different ways, and if one doesn't work well for someone there's something else they might be more familiar with. I personally loved experimenting with different brushes on my weapon - gave it a grungy look, and the staff a wooden texture without having to worry about the maps since procreate did that for me (base/albedo and roughness). Still had to UV unwrap, ofc, but it helped a lot regardless.

A common misconception in the 3D world is that triangles are bad, it's said out of good intent but there's actually no problem with using triangles when (and where) you know how to use them, same goes for N-Gons but usually they are mostly taken advantage of with Hard-Surface modeling. All models are seen by every program that reads them as triangles, the only reason we have quads and N-Gons is because they were made for the ease of control that it gives the user when actually developing the models. It's a lot easier to work with, and understand how the topology of your model flows when they are all nice and even quads. Very common that beginners are told "triangle bad quad good" but there's really no need to fear the triangle lol. Much more understandable when studying other great 3D artists topology as well, because you'll start noticing patterns of how, and where they use them.

Really cool video! How the hell are you this good if you've never opened blender before?! I really recommend natsumori katsu's channel! he has made many tutorials on how to make anime 3d models in blender! videos are in Japanese with eng subs. Also there is a guy I think is called Zingy that also has cool videos. Im really new to how people use these models tho, vrchat?
@impawsibles
@impawsibles 25 күн бұрын
@MythoCondria Aw thank you, I'm not sure if I'm 'this good' but I'll take the compliment! I actually met and interacted with Zingy after I finished this model and he's for sure a really cool and knowledgeable guy, though I've never heard of Natsumori Katsu so thank you for this wisdom! As for what people use the models for- as you say, vrchat but also tracking softwares like Warudo/vseeface/vnyan for streaming! Similar to 2d vtuber models using vtube studio. There are also things like Varkshorts that can make animated clips for 3d models for content! Hope that answer helps 🙏
