Aside form kindness. Theresa had to erase doctor's memory if she hope for the future. If doctor's memory is not erased, the doctor will eventually choose to side with the first civilization (old humanity or originium) again. If doctor is killed, it's pretty much also gameover (Confirmed on Ch14 and the recent Abyssal hunter event). While Theresa had no way of be sure of this, she had a guess with how Kaltsit treat the doctor and learn a glimpse of it as she peek on the doctor's mind. So it's not about giving the doctor a 2nd chance, It's about giving the terrans a 2nd chance.

Treating hostility towards different races as racism is a bit evasive and downplaying in Terra, it's more like the conflict between UK and France 100 times version, where wars and conflicts and difference formed their world outlook. For instance, why everyone doesn't like Sarkaz? Because Teekaz had war with Ancients thousands of years ago, and then Teekaz developed scary arts, ignited the first orignium catastrophe, and they always carry oripathy, raising war to reclaim the world for so many times that Sarkaz is bascially symbol of war and infection in Terra. Now consider yourself as a child raised in Arknights world before 1100s, what would you think of Sarkaz?

That's just describing systemic racism against the Sarkaz. There's that ingrained assumption before you've even met an individual that if they're Sarkaz they're automatically bad and probably diseased. It's not even based on personal experience, but just what you've been taught, and just because they are Sarkaz. You're right that if you were a child raised in the Arknights world before 1100s you'd probably think poorly of all Sarkaz even having never met one, because you're being raised by racist parents in a racist society, so that's all you know. I like that Arknights doesn't sugarcoat things and pretend that racism isn't absolutely a thing or treat it like it's only ever just a few isolated villains that we defeat and then everybody else totally gets along with the power of friendship.

@@Reldan The point is, the problem is not about an "ism," but a complicated, deep-rooted conflict coming from reality. You cannot eradicate the Sarkaz problem with some lectures and protests in Victoria. You need to solve the Sarkaz education, the mercenary culture, the national defense of Kaz'del, Oripathy, etc. before even standing on the stage to say "Hey, let's be equal, no racism." And of course, a sudden war by any nation can easily zero set all your effort because just like Oripathy, Sarkaz is an easy excuse for the leaders of those countries to explain problems they don't like to solve. That's why I said, "racism" is a just evasive and downplaying word.
