I'm so glad that my hubby and I had the chance to meet you at Hollywood Studios back in October!!! We have since also "divorced" ourselves from Disney by selling our timeshare so we have no plans to return to Orlando or DisneyWorld for probably the rest of our lives. At 26, you have your whole life ahead of you so you have plenty of time to try new ventures, make mistakes, learn from them, and move forward. We are in our early 60's and even if we have plenty of life left in us, we have outgrown Disney and felt that the magic is gone because it's just so darn expensive and we agree that the Cast Members need to be paid more for all the hard work they do. If Abigale Disney says the CM are treated poorly, she is correct. Best of luck to you Kyle and we'll "see you" on KZbin again. Hugs and High Fives, Steve and Stephen

I'm sorry to hear that you've "divorced" from Disney. For many people a trip to Disney World is a time to relive their childhood. To go back in time, to the place where their childhood dreams came true. They pay for the nostalgia.

My first job was at WDW at age 16 as a Casual Regular, working weekends, all school breaks full-time, even through summer (1979-1980). I worked the Tickets department and loved it. I left just before graduating high school. About 2 years later, I was hired at an Advertising Agency and my boss had been an Art Director at WDW. Of course ex cast members always share why we left. He told me, “I can’t feed my family on free ticket books and pixie dust.” Yes, back then we had all kinds of ticket media and we received the ticket books at Christmas, etc. Anyway, we all have to make our career decisions as you have. Disney is wonderful for so many reasons, until your personal dreams aren’t possible. So congratulations on choosing your dreams. You have all you need within you to fulfill them!

I had the same feeling you did a week before we got the talk that we were being let go. I shifted my focus on KZbin and am developing myself as artist. It's definitely not easy but I know you'll do great things. Here's to be a better year🥂 MC

My son also used the CP to work where he always dreamed. He extended his CP three times and gained a lot of experience. He then went full time and completed many work shops to add to his skills list. He has now been at Disney 6 years and still loves it just like the first day. He was a simple country boy that began at the Grand Floridian to now performing three to four times a day at Magic Kingdom.

I have the same story. Did the College Program, graduated, went back and got a job at Epcot as a restaurant host, felt unfulfilled. After a few months I left, came back to NYC, and got a job in tv production. Best decision I ever made. Instead of Disney deciding what my career would be, I decided for myself. And I still visit Disney Parks once or twice a year. I’ve been to all of them except for Shanghai and Hong Kong, and I’ll hopefully visit those two soon. And maybe someday when I retire, I’ll go back to work at Disney. I can honestly say I never had a bad day there. Best experience/time of my life. Anyway, good luck to you!

Glad you stepped out and are doing what you feel you should be doing. I at 26 also, started my own business and now 12 years later I’m so glad I did. My suggestion, would be to make a plan on how you are going to get to where you want and ensure you’re honest with yourself and account for the struggles that will arise. If you plan for the hard times you’ll get through them without quitting. IT WILL BE GREAT! So happy to see you take this step.

Good luck. I figured you would soon realize you can do more and better than a retail job. You need an income stream to build personal wealth and perhaps a family someday. Disney loves dreamers who will work cheaply for them. But they aren’t like Peter Pan. They grow up. And go for something higher. Glad you made this move.

I’m just going to point out that MOST places don’t pay “$15”. He says “I wasn’t even making $15.” I have a Master’s Degree. I’m looking for a full-time job but I’m a substitute teacher in the mean time. I make less per day subbing than I did working the same hours at Starbucks. Both paid me less than $15/hr. Disney has a bad reputation for this, but it’s honestly Capitalism. And COVID has once again screwed things up for the younger Millenials and older Gen Z looking to start families and careers. This is why so many of us are struggling with debt and can’t buy houses and the job market isn’t getting better anytime soon. Good for Kyle that he can vlog, but in terms of the generation, things need to change EVERYWHERE.

You said it you are young. If you waited 1 to 2 years at Disney more you could have been back to VIP guide and you would still be young. But you chose to leave a great company that will never take you back in hopes you can get big money on KZbin or your T Shirt business. Big mistake my friend. Those are both long shots. I am a retired CM who worked back of the house Technology for years at Disney retiring as IT Director at Disney. I had many the lower paying crappy jobs at Disney before making up to management. If you are willing to put your time at Disney they will reward you in the end. But I still wish you luck my friend.

I was a cast member for 13 magical years, I know exactly what you are saying. It's a great place to work if you are a student or retired. The benefits are awesome (especially parks) , but you can't live on benefits. I barely paid bills and did not move forward, as you, in my Disney career. I am just amazed that Disney doesn't utilize their cast to their potential. I started in retail, then transferred to guest services. I, like so many cast members, left the company. I'm waiting to retire then go back as a CT or CR in the winter. Best of luck Kyle, you'll figure it all out in time. Keep the magic* brother and Merry Christmas!

I don't think this is a mistake. If it doesn't work out you will be able to go back to Disney some day if that's what you want to do. Maybe this is scary but you don't want to look back in ten years and wonder what would have happened if you went for it. Its hard to get a reward out of life if you're not willing to take a risk. I'm not an advocate for every job out there being paid $15 or $20 an hour. That's a ludicrous notion advanced by people who've never run a business and are usually complete financial illiterates. However, it has always amazed and disgusted me that Disney, a company that openly robs guests with their prices for everything and anything under the sun, and that sells itself as a "premium" or "luxury" vacation destination, pays the people responsible for delivering premium service no more than Fast Food pays. Considering everything they have to put up with working at Disney, frankly, I'm stunned that so folks many stick around for as long as they do. Premium pay for lackluster performance is one thing. Premium pay at a place where the expectation on a daily basis is premium performance at all times, and where under normal circumstances cash flows like the mighty Mississippi is quite another. It's a disgraceful part of their company culture. Criminal, really. Good luck to you, though.

hey there, this popped up as suggested to watch. well done to you!! your young and have a huge future ahead of you. you say in your vlog if you have any questions to put them here... here's my question, as you are now officially not associated with disney any more, what are the things you'd be willing to reveal that you wanted to say or think about disney that you couldn't whilst being a cm. the sides of things that disney wouldn't want revealed or spoken about? i truly wish you all the best on your future endeavours.

Dude, I little really did the exact same thing this year. I was working for the Ritz Carlton in Denver, Colorado and was furloughed in March when the hotel closed. Over my three months off I thought long and hard about my life. I wasn’t happy, I wasn’t living life... and I was incredibly frustrated. So, when I was brought back in July I worked for a few weeks and took their voluntary separation program where they paid me severance to leave. Now... a few months later... I moved across the country to Pennsylvania and landed my dream job in sales and marketing for a tourist railroad. I think that was a silver lining to the pandemic, I was able to really step back and realize what I wanted to do with my life. More power to you, I know first hand how scary it is to make that decision, to quit a stable job during the pandemic when so many other people are struggling. But hang in there, good things come to those who wait, and work hard for them.

I applied 5x to Disney and feb I was given full time position in the resorts and I went through my onboarding but three days before my traditions date I was postponed until after covid then due to everything closing I was apart of the 28,000 cm let go before I even began. Such a hit and a heartbreak but I’m going to keep dreaming finish my bachelors finish my masters then go into my dream job as an imagineer. Kyle your so strong and you pushed yourself to begin your dreams and I know it’s frustrating to feel stuck gods got this I’m keeping you in my prayers and I’m so excited to have daily vlogs back again! Your future is bright and there’s a great big beautiful tomorrow! Happy holidays

I'm genuinely curious how you landed VIP tours if you only started in 2019. Transfer guidelines is 1 year in your role/area and I've heard from other guides that you need to be working with the company for 2 years.

@@KylePalIo exactly. Takes a lot to realize you're not happy some where and make that difficult decision. Making yourself happy is always #1 and I know your vlogs will reflect that.

Kyle, good for you. I worked for Disney back in 79 -86 Disneyland and Disney World. I found I too was not going to be able to advance in the company, it was a very different time then. I too was 26 and commend you on taking the chance to excel on your own terms. You have such a good drive and determination I know you will succeed, but you also have a great support system, a family who believe in you. Since then I have traveled the world and have enjoyed life. I know this year threw us all for a loop, I moved back to Florida to world for Disney this year, but now everything is on hold. But I came back for the wind down and like you said it will always be here. Keep reaching and trying new things. There is so much out there, ready for the taking. Always be true to yourself and respect everyone and you will succeed. Take care.
