I think because so many KZbinrs only show the good and never the bad, most people think it’s the best thing ever! Glad that you’re being super open and honest with us! I work for a 3rd party at Springs and I like it better only because I could never imagine going to the parks almost every single day for work. I’d never want to go on my day off lol

My daughter also quit after issues over accommodations. She was placed in food services selling popcorn and drinks outside. One day she rolled her ankle and was sent home by her supervisor. The next day she was told she could not return to work without a Drs note. I paid almost $500 for her to go to a urgent care. The Dr gave her a note clearing her to return to work and added she could wear an ankle brace if needed until told otherwise by an Ortho specialist. On her 2nd shift after returning to work she was called into the office of the manager over all outside vending. This woman sent her home again and told her she had to see an ortho specialist TODAY. Of course there was no way to even get an appointment, not that she needed one. They refused to allow her to return until she saw the specialist. She spoke with an adviser over the college program who was just as confused and frustrated as she was and eventually got them to allow her to return to work, but they were still insisting she go to an Ortho specialist. After this it was like the food vending manager was out to get her, she would call crying almost everyday. One night she called at 3am, she had just gotten off work and all the busses had stopped running and she had no way back to Flamingo Crossing and couldn't get her Uber app to work. After a few weeks of this and her crying everyday she'd had enough and I drove 10 hours to pick her up. In my opinion DCP is basically slave labor for Disney. She's in college to be an English/drama teacher, I don't understand how selling popcorn and drinks in 90* plus heat is supposed to help her accomplish this.

I totally agree. Even without the problems with accommodations, the program is a rip-off. It's essentially paying for a low-skill, low-pay job that does little to provide experience in one's desired field. Furthermore, the logic behind going through an application process for a job in which one doesn't even know what their responsibilities would be is astonishing. In any other context, that would be widely considered outrageous. However, that is disregarded because it is Disney doing it and because of the perks of being a cast member. Truly, the college program is nothing more than a way for Disney to have cheap labor.

What’s upsetting is I know exactly the role and location of this. Didn’t witness what happened but I was in the same role and it was absolutely terrible. Not accommodating whatsoever. After the DCP I switched roles and location and I love my leaders now. It really does depend where they stick you. It’s unfortunate.

That’s somewhat a better situation albeit I have to evaluate. My roommate was fired on a skiiing vacation in the program since they thought it was undisneylike for him to work at a position with crutches and a cast. My workplace was sorta weird and should’ve moved a position. Someone had a cast from carpal tunnel ice cream scooping. Probably due to work hours not accommodating over scooping. She was never fired. I forget if she was moved from ice cream or not. But she worked with a cast and I believe was pregnant also.

My accommodations aren't assisting me with my disability, my leadership is terrible, and the people downstairs keep writing hate posts on YikYak of all places about me and my roommates being too loud when we were literally asleep. Thank you for telling your story you really are helping us a lot down here!

I"m so sorry you had a bad experience! I did the DCP in 2012 and had to switch roles because they placed me in outdoor food and beverage with a nut/peanut allergy and I literally had an allergic reaction on the job from those cinnamon pecans. Luckily, they were able to put through my accommodations request within like a week and moved me to merchandise. I definitely think Disney gets away with a lot when it comes to the DCP because so many people are willing to compromise on pay just to get the experience of working for Disney. I know cost of living is different now, but just for some perspective I got paid $7.25 when I was on my DCP and lived in SUPER outdated apartment with 3 other girls. I definitely would have not been able to survive without my parents helping me out and I definitely came home with $0. As much as I still love Disney, the DCP was definitely eye opening and I think it made me realize that Disney is 100% a business before anything else. And because it's such a large company, unfortunately a lot of people fall through the cracks and aren't given the tools they need to be successful and thrive. Thanks for sharing your experience and best of luck in the future!

definitely a new era of DCP when you factor in the vloggers. We had similar problems with people not getting accommodations ASAP and what not but I remember my program being fun (not the role but my coworkers) but I also did the program back in 2010 and 2012 and because we (coworkers/and/or roommates) had something in common (shared frustration at times), that's how we bonded. And yeah right after the furlough/pandemic I imagine they were hiring off of need because we were struggling with labor shortage (I was full time at DAKL and we were short staffed like all the time). I'm terribly sorry you didn't enjoy your program and hope all is well

This is so sad to hear, coming from someone who did the College Program a few years ago. Ever since the program came back after COVID, I’ve heard so many awful things. I’ve heard of people needing to have second jobs, just like you mentioned, in order to pay their bills. By that point, I don’t even understand the benefit of doing the program. I’ve also heard lots about the new CPs just being really rude and ugh, it just sucks. I’m sorry that this was your experience. 😕

I had a friend from high school do TWO programs pre-COVID and loved it. She joined the new program for her third time with me (we were roommates lol) and she ended up self terming a month after I left because she also didn’t have enough hours and was struggling to afford to the rent and food. It was really disappointing for her after having such a good experience prior. I don’t know why I forget to mention that in this video. It was also super confusing for her because the new way the program is set up lacks any transparency about roles before you get there. It was a complete flip-flop from how she remembered the program.

Just popping in here hoping to discourage anyone thinking about leaving a rude or potentially ableist comment. This video is obviously a video in which I highlight only my bad experiences from the program. I had good experiences there as well, but I wanted to be honest to anyone who might also have a disability like me and was thinking of joining the program. It meant to be lighthearted, funny, and honest about my experience. I’ve gotten lots of comments asking why I wanted to work in Florida if I can’t “I can’t work in the heat.” Disney HAS lots of roles that do not work in the heat and could’ve easily assigned me one of them based off my accommodation paperwork. This wasn’t a personal preference of not liking the heat, I have a disease. It isn’t something I can control. I should be able to work wherever I want, just as any able-bodied people can. It isn’t right for people to try to tell me that I’m not allowed to work somewhere because I have a disease. Please stop calling me entitled for looking out for my health. Celiac disease is very serious and can lead to cancer and other diseases if not taken care of. I also have had people calling me a bad wife for “leaving my husband” at home. My husband is in the Air Force and was supposed to be going away. I wasn’t gonna sit at home twiddling my thumbs waiting for him to come home, I chose to go and have an experience while he was away. Thank you to everyone who has been leaving nice comments and asking questions respectfully! I really appreciate it.

I’m not sure about Florida law, but you certainly have a case under the Americans with disabilities act for the right to “reasonable accommodations “- clearly you were working for a company that had both the responsibility and the ability to provide you with reasonable accommodation for your disability without any hardship to them whatsoever, and the fact that they failed to implement an effective strategy to do so simply in your case puts them on the wrong side of the law. Since I see other people here having similar experiences, it seems that the department of justice needs to do a refresher course on reasonable accommodation for disabilities perhaps at all levels of the Disney parks corporate structure. I believe that this is a case of Disney being a wide and vast company where oversight has gotten lacks in levels of human resources, but there is simply no excuse for the complete lack of provision for reasonable accommodations for someone like yourself- Even worse when it is considered a “student program “which the law provides extra onus to create equal opportunities for. This is some thing that season disability activists should be bringing up in ADA DOJ circles….

You are the FIRST person I have ever seen talk about when you have accommodation issues and Disney just doesn't let you work. On my 2nd program they decided that I needed an accommodation mid way through the program and didn't let me work for over a month and when I FINALLY got back to work I owed so much money for rent. I was so stressed and depressed I almost self terminated but decided to stay. I said I would NEVER do another program again but.. I'm going for another one in July 🤦🏽‍♀️ lol My friend was applying and asked me to apply too so we could room together because she's heard about my nightmare roommates haha so I did and surprisingly was accepted 😬 I am nervous though because I have bills and I know how little you make.. Also, trying to figure out if I need to remind them of my “disability” or if they will already have it on record from before... 🤷🏽‍♀️ Sorry for such a long comment, I'm just so glad to see that I wasn't alone (I am sorry you had such a crap experience though)

I know how shitty it can be, but it’s my dream to work for the company and I feel like it’s the easiest way to get in the door if your coming from out of state. What I'd like to know is why doesn't Disney open up the program to anyone that's interested? A couple of interviews, a background check, a drug test, and/or ???. And if everything checks out, offer them a 6-month contract position that includes accommodations and transportation. And if they are still with the company after 6-months, offer them a contract extension, a full-time job, or send them packing.

I'm so sorry this was your experience! I went through almost all of this on my program. I was so depressed and miserable and it was totally nothing like i expected. I ultimately self termed after about a month because I truly just didn't have the means to live! I had my car which definitely eased a ton of anxiety and stuff but I wasn't one of those CPs who was basically "on vacation." I feel like there are so many people that praise the program when really, its NOT for everyone. For example, my direct roommate was the only girl in her family so she was spoiled and didn't really have to worry about anything or know how to share a room with someone else(I was also 22 at the time and she was 19 so there was a bit of a maturity gap). You really have to have a very particular personality and financial background.

I stayed friends with 2 of my roommates. LOL, I maybe worked 30 hours a week but it was right after 911 and people weren't coming to Disney World for the few years after. I was always hungry, I had to eat very little because I had no money and didn't want to ask my parents. My roommate fed me her noodles sometimes. I knew I was working at the gift shops when I left for the Program but sometimes on different days they would send me to different lands within Magic Kingdom. I just had to go with it! I stayed for 5 months before it was time for me to go back home. the funny part, my supervisors asked me to stay and become a supervisor because I was such a good worker, and always showed up for my shifts. I am currently about to quit. I was moved once on the basis that I was “too magical” for DAK and now have legitimate medical concerns regarding panic and anxiety. Once my leaders caught wind of this and my need for an accommodation. they started emotionally abusing me with threats to fire me, extra work, manipulation, lying about points and reprimands, and even gaslighting. They literally threatened to fire me over this at one point, going so far as to say my panic attacks were “insubordination”, and once I panicked enough they told me they just did that to scare me and I need to stop being so scared. This was AFTER they knew I have severe anxiety by the way. I have gone to the programs team and they want to help so badly but can’t. I went to HR over these issues and they told me I was worthless and unprotected if I wasn’t in the union. I’ve been looking for another job since I moved here to be at Disney and need to stay with them to pay off-site rent until I can secure something, but now they’ve told me I have to go on unpaid medical leave or they’ll send me home every night. It’s like they stalk me and want to hurt me in every way possible. Like, WHY NOW ALL OF A SUDDEN!? They told me that paying rent was my problem and that it’s “my fault for having mental disabilities”. I came home and was on my floor hyperventilating over not being able to pay rent. Not to mention how I haven’t been eating or sleeping from the stress for three weeks and have lost an excessive amount of weight. I’m DONE.

Yeah, I've heard that the Disney college program has a bit of differences since coming back. I don't understand why they would stop asking where people would want to go. I mean after all a Happy worker makes a dedicated and busy worker. Also is it even legal to stop asking? I mean after all many people have their preferences due to disabilities and health issues. Do they even ask if you have a disability or health issue? If they do, you should be giving your choice right off the bat even if it's not a normal thing for the everyday person. Everyone I've heard that had some sort of disability or physical issue ended up having to terminate. It's not that hard just to ask. And also when you ask you can automatically put people together with physical issues so it's easier to live together. In all reality they save a lot of time energy and money just to ask a few simple questions. I don't know what they're trying to save on but they're not saving on time energy or money. And they're losing a lot of good people because of it.

I’m so sorry, it’s so disappointing how many people this happened to. Its also ironic that “inclusion” is the new 5th key and they simultaneously forced many people with medical accommodations and disabilities to term.
@acameron513

@@autflaten To me, that just shows how much they are unwilling to provide for their source of cheap labor. It's very telling that they stop caring about inclusion as soon as it affects the productivity of their workforce. If they really cared, they'd take medical accommodations seriously so that people with disabilities, visible or not, could be properly included. It's very obvious to me that the 5th key is nothing more than a publicity stunt.

If you throw that hdr footage (from an iphone) into iMovie or Final Cut on a Mac, you should be able to go into exposure settings and drag those highlights down and get the image back to a fairly decent level.

I had to leave my PI as a biotech intern at the land in 2019 due to Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and dysautonomia. It was great to hear from someone else in the disability community. My manager fought tooth and nail for me during my whole internship, but disney as a company was terrible in terms of accommodations, especially when it came to missing work.

I completely understand people not talking to you or wanting to be friends. I would talk to people and they wouldn’t try talking to me at all. People need to be more open minded and at least try to talk. And if you don’t vibe with them that’s ok.

Just by the title it sounds like it would be a good place for me to be so I can can quality for the type of job I would want I just graduated high school in 2021 and it seems extra school just doesn’t seem to be an option for me but just knowing there is disability accommodations is good since I just found out I’m autistic plus I literally grew up with a lot of Disney things and it seems cool but just knowing there’s trouble based off accommodations and stuff it probably wouldn’t be able to work out for me but I’m tired of being stuck in my house all the time with people I know I want to be more independent but I know in my conditions there’s change of plans but the thing is I’ve been stuck in this position for about a year now

I’ve never heard that with celiac disease you can’t work outside ? That’s new to me. I even tried to search it and didn’t see it. Did you let disease know you had celiac disease when you applied and would need the accommodations ? Can’t work food and outside. I’m just curious if Disney was aware of that in advance. It may have worked better if hubby wa with and you wasn’t responsible for all the bills also while starting the program. I know you also mentioned you should be able to choose where you where … in the dcp program do they tell you that you can ? I was under the impression they choose for you. And they the ones that do it know that upfront.
@autflaten
@autflaten Жыл бұрын
Celiac disease is an inflammatory disease. Heat causes vasodilation in blood vessels which would exacerbate inflammation and pain. In the video I state that, I had a Disney appointed disability accommodation advocate, you apply for one before you start your program. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3347005/ www.piedmont.org/living-better/when-to-treat-pain-with-ice-vs-heat Celiac disease is an ADA recognized disability so you have to send in an application to Disney’s disability team. The application is something your doctors signs off on with all your necessary accommodations and symptoms listed. My gastroenterologist signed it off with my inability to work with food and in the heat. Disney receives this application after you have been hired because it would give people the opportunity to discriminate against people with disabilities. So they knew after hiring me but months before my arrival. “Hubby” is in Air Force, and was away, unfortunately. The DCP has three options for rooms 2x2 (shared room 2 bedroom 2 bath) 4x2, (4 bedroom 2 bath) and 4x4, they say you “choose” which room you apply for but they actually choose FOR you based on a first come first serve basis which is not mentioned.

I was accepted in February and the initial fee was $425. I heard it has gone up since then. We were all under the impression that it covered the first week’s rent but apparently it doesn’t. PLUS I am also hearing that there is a fee that comes out of the first pay check. I don’t start until August, but I’m so curious as to where all of that money is going.

I feel bad for you this really sucks I got a job there when I turned 16 but it was still owned by the Disney family then a totally different thing and I went for a specific job and before I worked there they let me drive right up into the Magic Kingdom and park behind Main Street to give me a little training on a day on weekends for about a month so I would be ready to work when school was out for the summer I didn't get paid for training because I wasn't even working there yet at that point but it was a specialty job it was only for like an hour so it was no big deal I never worked there After High School I didn't really like it that much but I did work for Disney Studios for a little bit and it was pretty good. It makes me sad when I hear stories like this and there's others just like you I have been getting them on my KZbin feed lately they said almost the same things

Please look into the gaps diet protocol and also the carnivore diet, I know it sounds crazy but an elimination diet has been proven to help heal people from the inside out especially with anything to do with gut issues so I just wanted to mention it. Thanks for sharing your experience, it’s so sad and disappointing how far Disney has come from the magical happy place they used to be even just 3-5 years ago, I don’t understand how people still idolize it after knowing everything that we’ve learned over the years about how greedy and careless they’ve become especially with CM’s.
