Great reaction! And please ignore those who take weird pleasure in questioning how you could never have heard of him! Around the world, we come from many different backgrounds and cultures - not everyone knows even the most popular singers, groups, or songs. And it doesn’t matter! It’s your openess and appreciation of this which is so beautiful to see! Also, truly informed people understand there are these differences across the globe, and that they themselves may not be aware of singers/entertainers in other parts of the world who are mega stars with name recognition of a billion+. So again, thanks for sharing with us your wonderful first-time reaction to the great Pavarotti!

This is not just Pavarotti. It is also the genius of the composer: Giacomo Puccini. The unsurpassed master of emotion. Performer and composer are both Italian, so Pavarotti is singing in his native language. "Nessun dorma", "Let no one sleep", is the highlight-aria of the opera Turandot, set in China's capital Peking (Beijing). The choir are the people of the city, lamenting that they cannot discover the name of the unknown Tartar prince Calaf (sung here by Pavarotti). The proud and cold princess Turandot, ruling over the city, has ordered: "This night, none shall sleep in Peking! The penalty for all will be death (for all the people!) if the Prince's name is not discovered by morning". If she knows the prince's name by dawn, he dies; however if she cannot find out she has to marry him. With the people despairing in the background, the as yet nameless prince sings about the approaching daybreak "dilegua notte, tramontate stelle" (dissolve, o night; set, o stars!). The prince knows "il mio mistero è chiuso in me" (my secret is locked within me) having mused how he will reveal his name to the cold princess "sulla tua bocca lo dirò" (onto your mouth I shall tell it)---and knows also "all'alba vincerò!", at down, I will be victorious (and conquer the princess). Ahhhh----such beauty is no longer of our times.

Thank you so, so much, dear Ovuada ❤😊 for kindly sharing your love emotions and sweet thoughts about our unforgettable Big Luciano 🙂 ... I'm Italian, Ovuada, from a small town just 12 miles from Venice 🙂 ... as Italian I'm well used to listen to operas and among our most representative opera composers I particularly love Giacomo Puccini, who composed "Turandot", the opera from which this legendary aria "Nessun dorma" comes ... I'm deeply touched by your emotions, I can feel your sincere desire to catch the sublime beauty inside the voice, inside the melody ... I think, you should come to Italy, my dear friend 🙂😇 ... Maestro Giacomo Puccini was born in Tuscany (Florence is the capital town of Tuscany), really a magical place among all Italian regions ... if you could, for instance, have the opportunity to see not only the countless artistic masterpieces you can find only there, but also the pure beauty of the nature, the magic of a sunset on the sweet land fields of Tuscany, the gentle scent of flowers and trees ... I think, you would understand still better where such an awesome melody comes from and why it has the unbelievable power to move anyone to tears ... And exactly all that is "real Italy", I can assure you ... "real Italians", like Maestro Giacomo Puccini, Luciano Pavarotti and many others, were and are all people of sincerity, honesty, love and passion ... and just to be clear, real Italians don't even want to hear about mafia or anything dirty and shameful like that ... Come to Italy, dear friend 😊❤ ... we have a lot of love and sincere hugs to share with you 😊😇❤ ...

A truly honest emotional reaction. "Nessun Dorma (None Shall Sleep)", one of the greatest and most popular arias. Luciano, one of the greatest voices ever and the master of presentation. The only matching presentation of this aria comes from this same concert (at the Baths of Caracalla for the 1990 World Cup in Italy), when Pavarotti was joined by Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras for the concert encore. The conductor is the Indian Parsi maestro Zubin Mehta, (kzbin.info/www/bejne/goqkpHmboctqpNE).
@ajhibbard55383 жыл бұрын
Apologies if I'm repeating things already said. Pavarotti was singing in his native tongue, so probably able to feel more deeply the emotions than do those of us who can only approach the texts in translations. I've heard operas translated into English from the language they were written in and there always seem to be trade-offs in how well the music fits the words. A final comment is that although I never heard Pavarotti live, I have heard other wonderful opera singers and they commonly perform without microphones, unless the performance is being recorded. It is amazing to hear one of those powerful voices soaring out into the opera house over what is sometimes a gargantuan orchestra.

This is Luciano Pavarotti, an Italian. He was the unquestioned best tenor of my lifetime, and I'm 72. Giacomo Puccini, also Italian, is generally considered the finest opera composer of all time, and "Nessun Dorman" is the most beautiful aria from Puccini's opera "Turandot." Puccini believed God was the source of his music because it came to him without his knowing how. Pavarotti credited God with his voice. I believe that hearing Pavarotti sing Puccini is like hearing the voice of God, and that's why it moves people so.

During the WW II, the Italian army was the subject of a smear campaign On the enemy side to demoralize the troops... It shouldn't be hard to document the truth these days. Just want to do it. The amount of energy required to refute a lie is an order of magnitude greater than the amount required to produce it. So, I think you'll understand if I stop there. Have a nice day

I love your reaction to this magnificent performance. I was lucky enough to see him sing this live at Giants Stadium in N.J. with Jose Carreras and Placido Domingo on July 22, 1996, during their final "Three Tenors" tour. It was the first concert my wife and I attended together. An unforgettable night. Speaking of unforgettable ... pardon me for saying so, but you are one of the most beautiful women I have ever laid eyes on. 💘
