It's amazing how priorities change when you have a family. After many times approaching my car with hands and arms all full of bags, things and a child and realising I need to get the keys out of my pocket to press the unlock button, I can now even see the benefit of 'comfort' access after previously thinking it was pointless and less secure.
@cutdepiefails65963 жыл бұрын
Hell if you get a kid and young family, no matter how much of a petrolhead one is, priority lies on family and their quality of living. So it's actually good preemptive advice for the lot on the verge of this situation. By the way f30 318d-330d auto, wagon, with adaptive drive would be the choice, especially given her like for the 4 series.

I'd really recommend checking out a full size estate before committing to a 4x4. I've used both long term for my job where I need a lot of storage and you really can't fit that much more in a 4x4 (slightly taller body but big wheel wells do impact usable space) but the running costs are so much worse, if you're not going to make use of the big tyres and extra beefy components then it's going to feel really bad paying for them when they fail. Maybe one of those Audi all road style cars (probably not the Audi itself as I hear they're not great) would fit the niche? Reasonably high driving position but can be lowered for when you need good mileage on the motorway.

Agree. Can't comprehend why people are willing to compromise so much to sit higher.
@DjDolHaus864 жыл бұрын
@@julianevans9548 personally I didn't find that there was any real advantage, yes you're higher up but you can't really see much that'd be of any interest. I couldn't even really justify the 4wd and extra ground clearance even though I spend a lot of time going down farm tracks and other lumpy roads. My 2wd mondeo can get down the same roads albeit a bit slower and with the occasional bit of manoeuvring around the deeper holes. If I was frequently towing a heavy trailer down those same tracks then I could see the use but otherwise it's just an excess I can do without.

For her car choice: just be practical and get a passenger van like a transit or traffic or something. 180ish hp if you want, automatic if you want, all the room you'd ever need, and for normal driving, they pretty much handle like a car. I drive an mx5 myself, but if i were to start a family, i wouldn't mess around with suvs, crossover nonsense, etc. I'd go for the most practical thing for an affordable price. Truth be told, those vans are pretty good. They're a lot lighter than an SUV or crossover, they're usually better on fuel unless you start pushing high speed on the highway, they're cheap to run because of their commercial roots, and modern ones have all of the modern conveniences and comfort of a regular car. Just my two cents.

Range suffered as I was carrying in excess of 70 odd kilos of gear. But I was impressed by it, as it was a bit bigger than some of the other SUVs I've driven, and it's cheap to run if you're mostly doing city/urban runs. Excellent getting your sister to do this. Great to have a good perspective "from the other side" :). Our kids have mainly only known the family Land Rover Discovery 3. had it 10 years now with few problems. Does the school run in the week and off road on the farm at weekends (towing ex-army nato trailers). It eats the pram and all the shopping (at the same time). Also very easy to park (my wife squeezes it into some very tight spots). We'd love to get a Range Rover, but would miss the 7 seats. Came in useful when I was a taxi for 6 girls in large dresses on Prom night :)

Lovely Jubbly, must say interesting format for a change, not all about POWER.

She should consider a Discovery Sport or XC60 possibly. Disco Sport has 7 seats, big boot and great for short and long distances. One of my best cars ever.

We are getting a new car next week and had the same kind of budget. We have 2 young children so needed respectable boot space too. Ended up going for a peugeot 2008 feline. Great spec including sat nav, heated seats etc. Seen a few reviews where they have fitted 2 large push chairs in the boot. We opted for a manual 6 speed but they do a few auto options. Might be worth a look. The gt line model looks great and no I do not work for peugeot:) Great video btw!

Ok after some research: Ford Grand C-max with the 2 litre engine. Enough space in the back, sliding doors for easier access to the rear, decent enough to drive, decent equipment, in budget, in auto. A perfectly decent car. Not a 4x4 though, but we need to get people out of those monstrosities, not in them!

...mom's city car is called Berlingo is she is a modest girl or Scénic if she wants something more fancy....unlike SUVs these cars have floor and boot much more lower and it's gold feature when you don't have strong muscles and must handle stroller and big shopping...

Family Car = Ford Transit Custom Double Cab with automatic gearbox and 170 ps engine. A ‘boot’ you could live in and sliding doors brilliant for tight parking!

Honda CRV...good boot and massive rear passenger area with flat floor. 1.6 iDtec 120 BHP has 300Nm. Well spec'd daily, often overlooked.
