It wouldn't make that much sense for them to go separate ways, the side witherstorms basically gaurd the command block. Theres only one commandblock in them which they share. Basically witherstorm lifesupport. But, it is some what logical for them to grow. But, at the same time, the big ones the only one that needs size to gaurd the commandblock further.
