Whether you want to consider it a system or your own deeds, all of this is still next-level human stuff. The most heroic act I hear is that you choose to defer to someone else's judgment, the 911 operator's. You could have simply struck a Superman pose, said, "Ha! I took CPR in high school," and tossed your phone aside so that all the glory could have been funneled only to you. But you didn't. You called for help. And you listened. Oh, and you cried? Good. I'm proud of you. I'm sure we all are. Give Jim our best.

What you forget, Garrett, is that people don’t always help. Some don’t actually allow themselves to be put in that position of assisting/helping, and you did, and no matter how sad that sounds, it isn’t the norm and you DO deserve recognition for that. I agree with you though, none of this would be possible without the system, rules, and people keeping to those rules, and that’s forgotten so often, and it shouldn’t. The system lacks in other areas, but that doesn’t make it unimportant. Love hearing your take on this, and I hope you and your family (and Jim) will be doing well ❤️

Well, I think your actions do merit appreciation, not everyone would act as you did and help get that system into action quickly enough to save the guy. But point well made re you know who and hero worshipping in our culture. Good job just the same, perfectly regular dude who did the right thing when in the right place at the time needed to save a fellow human.

These systems are so important, and they only work because we all buy into them, because it has been ingrained in us to abide by the social contract so that we will get help if we need it, and others will receive help when they do.

Go you. Now ... Write all this down. Video, great. But write this down. You'll be happy that you did someday. You DID do something. You acted. And that matters. So many wring their hands, even if given direction.
