Totally get what you are doing. I'm a young grad from Québec my partner is Vietnamese. I Studied in Vietnam for a while and now we are both back in Canada to work/ studies and save a maximum so that in a few years we can pull the plug and move back there. For 2 people we are keeping it under 1500 cad a month total so we can get to our goal. It might seem crazy but we have everything we need including a paid for car. But of course you won't see me at a pitbull concert or with a new phone.

Your goal is a good one! I wish you all the best. I left Calgary in 1997 and lived and worked in Thailand (Oil industry) until I retired. I have a Thai wife and now my family is grown up. My daughter will graduate from UBC this year....

If you live within you`re means, you should have enough money to cover all expenses. You may not be putting as much money away as fast as you would like, but you can make it work, remember it`s a long term program, not short.

GTA rent is so high, car insurance is especially expensive for new drivers.

I gave up my car a while back because, like you, I was only driving 4-5k kmkm a year. I didn't see the need to keep it as I can walk or take a taxi and it costs me less per month than the insurance alone. I spend the same or less on everything you do otherwise. 820 for rent including heat/air and internet, 400 for food and I'm at 1250 including Netflix. Add 200 for electronics and clothes and I'm at ~1500, My possible future Thailand budget is actually bigger when you add visas and insurance plus a motorbike plus traveling. 2500 (65,000 baht) should do nicely. Presently I'm in 'Cottage Country' in Ontario.

Well done! You’ll be living a much more lavish lifestyle in Thailand on that budget! You probably know already: high end accommodation, eat out every meal, take a trip once a month and all with a lovely lady at your side to care for you, if that is what you desire.

Interesting! Been in Canada for 6 years now and seeing how life is expensive here, I told my wife we should be thinking of moving to Indonesia or Malaysia one day! But to do this we will either need a job that can be done online or a passive income from a property etc. - thoughts? What are you planning to do for passive income? Maaan 830 for rent is cheap , the GTA is just crazy😅

Dude, Kuala Lumpur looks like a nice city to live in for a very low price compared to here, with a good quality of life too. You’re right about income online or investment income. I own a property that gives me some rental income and I also own some stocks and fixed income investments. Stay tuned and subscribe for more about that later on. The amazing things is that only $1,500 per month is enough to have a very nice life in SE Asia and Canada is a great place to invest for income 👍 I’ll do a video about that soon.
