I got to spend 48 hours living in Navajo Nation the way native Navajos lived. That's right, i lived off the grid for 48 hours with Navajos! What an absolutely amazing, eye opening, and humbling experience.

fun fact : the navajo nation receives billions of dollars every year from the US government and they also make billions of dollars from their casinos but 80% of their people have no running water, no sewage, no trash, no roads and their government is so corrupt that there's nothing anyone can do about it.

I have the most respect for Navajo people ! They are one of the most nicest people on earth. My neighbor is Navajo . we are like family . His wife and kids are very respectful. His wife will come over our house and make Navajo tacos.They are the best . I have been to the reservation where they are from .Great experience. Raema Nm. I hope thats the way you spell it ! 🤔👍

Thank you for exploring our Native lands and culture so respectfully. Yes, our people and other Native tribes in the area live very similarly, most still reject the idea of running water and electricity to preserve culture and traditions. Some families go miles to haul water. Everything is a living being, it has a heart and a spirit... like the Hogan home, did you know there is a right way and wrong way to enter the Hogan? The people also pray before harvesting the plants for use. I cringed when your guide touched the middle stick of the Yucca haha, it is said that, a woman in particular,should never touch that part of the plant because its like a witch to her and can cause significant harm to her. There is a lifetime and more, worth of knowledge to be learned. So glad you were able to get a glimpse of Navajo life😁

And I didn't know that about touching the yucca, although it may have only been to teach us and not something he'd normally do. My wife is Navajo and I have lived on or around several reservations and getting to go to visit her family in Shonto truly showed me how great the Navajo people are. So much so, we will be moving to Shonto within the year. Yes, I'm Caucasian but truly was made to feel at home there.

Not quite🤔 bc as a person who is only given a tiny glimpse into Navajo (Dinè) culture/lifestyle & wouldn't have enough time to delve into the vastness of knowledge as it pertains to the land, socio economics, history of how the Navajo ppl acquired the land, drugs/alcohol abuse domestic violence, lack of higher education, generational trauma, lack of work opportunities etc. So to respond to your comment yes most definitely the Navajo rez can be a safe & happy place at times but it is all the other negative interferences that ALWAYS plague my own hometown of Tuba City located in AZ on the rez about 75miles N of Flagstaff. I can't speak for all communities but this is what I know to be true for my own lil town. I truely hope things will get better for my ppl especially after the devastating blow of just how the c19 virus destroyed & killed 1,000's of Navajo lives at the beginning of the pandemic & even then my very own so called American government refused to step in & help the 1st Nations People bc the Navajo Nation had to take this matter through the courts in order to allocate the c19 funds to help the Navajo ppl.

That is a modernized hogan. Stay in an older hogan of logs and dirt. There are no windows either. I use to have to remove the snakes from the ceiling whenever I stayed at my great grandmothers hogan when I was a child. I loved sleeping there rather then in the house.
