I deleted all of my game accounts few days ago when I felt sick because of my lifestyle of rotting in my room, having no friends or social life, no real hobbies or skills and also almost got kicked out of highschool two weeks ago, accompanied with depression and suicide thoughts. That's when I realized something had to change.

Bruh, its a problem for people who have financial problems in life, for those people who have no worries, and have enough money to live well without hard work, they enjoy the life as they want, and gaming is 1 of the alternatives for them. But as i said this is not for all, people who are thinking what to eat tomorrow, of course the gaming will harm their life very strongly.

This channel should be about quitting MULTIPLAYER games, not NARRATIVE games. Video games have a unique ability to tell beautiful stories through interactivity which no storytelling medium (movies, books, theatre) can do. I have played video games that have changed how I view character writing and storytelling as a whole. If this channel is dead set on bashing on video games, you should also cry about movies and books as they can also be viewed as time wasters.

Because of game quitters and this channel I went 17 days in a row with no gaming. I have since broken the streak but it has really dropped in priority to me and I still haven't played the big bad game that was what made me obscenely angry and took so much time. Now I play an hour here and hour there. And when I realize I'm not having fun, I stop playing. I know I can go long times without gaming now and I'm not scared of it. I started being more creative, and giving my cats more attention. Being more present with my friends and family. I"m excited to see where this road leads. Thank you guys :)

I've losted more than 4k hours in the Gran Turismo franchise (2k hours in GT Sport, 2k hours in GT7 and some few hours in GT5P, GT5 and GT6), and although GT shaped my musical tasted and matured my taste in cars, nowadays is only harming me rather than helping me. I want to quit, this time for real, I'm too old to play videogames and mature life means mature responsabilities, there are better hobbies for an adult than videogames.

I'm never quitting video games, but I will definitely appreciate your channel for the work you're carrying on... I also believe game addiction is a serious problem, people who are addicted to video games are not gamers. They are deepshit "addicts" who don't understand what video games are meant to be... Most addicts just stick to one game most of the time for hours of time, and they have lost touch with reality. Their behaviors change, their eating becomes irregular and become unaware of the society. Definitely appreciate your channel, thanks for making this type of content existent :)

I've never commented on any video on KZbin before despite watching 10-thousands, as someone who has battled this their whole adult life it feels like this channel and video really understands the whys and hows of real hardcore gamers. I've spent around 40.000 hours in total and managed to quit video games for 4 years 8 years ago, and a couple of months ago I gave it another try after getting sucked back in for 4 years. I definitely picked up a lot of useful skills and mindsets during my time on video games but the time perspective and ROI are something that helped me the most from returning again. The 4 years I didn't play, definitely advanced my IRL life the most. The boredom part discussed is also very important, for me gaming was the easiest way to get away from anything negative in my life. It was the best cure for anger and sadness, be it a breakup or personal disappointment for coming up short. Since I was never bored and always focused I was never able to process those emotions. For me big part of staying and coming back was always the community of equally hardcore gamers that supported each other, a brotherhood of sorts. I was very proud of my grand achievements and the feeling dragged me back in. This time I made sure to delete any traces of me and all my accounts on all the games. I highly suggest this to anyone, now even if the bad feeling comes and I feel like returning to forget them, there is nothing to go back to. It is very hard to restart when you have nothing and nobody in the game world, no Steam account, no old accounts on any game, no Discord or ways to contact your old buds. It gives you a few extra steps to go through and hopefully, you can catch yourself. This time leaving the games behind I became more open about it, and even met somebody at a dinner who had battled the same fight, it is quite crazy how the experience is so similar despite completely different circumstances. #1 IRL

@@HomeGrown001good to hear from you, my friend. I agree, it can get difficult to stop doing something that we used to it for years, especially something that rewards you with a cheap dopamine rush like gaming. In my experience, online-multiplayer game is the worst type of game, because it gives you a sense of pride for achieving something, and you feel like you're better compare to other people you play with. The sad part is, this is not even real, and it's useless in our real life. I still broke, not having confidence in social interaction, no freedom to do what I want/need. Imagine we channel our energy, effort, and time in real life, we actually can achieve something real and tangible, how great our life is going to be. That was to me my reality check. We both can agree real life is hard, that's why gaming seems more enjoyable, but think about it, if something you enjoy now will make your life worse and miserable later, think about your legacy, your loved ones. I think if we want to make our life better, we should embrace the hardship, nothing has value comes from easy task, something is hard because it held value. Give it a time, don't stress, and enjoy the journey. I think that's it from me, I wish you the best of luck.

@@HomeGrown001I started on April my game quitting journey and lasted for a month and some 10-ish days until I decided to play again, and boy that was a huge mistake. I've played since then and my situation got worse, then 2 days ago I decided to quit definitively this time, I'm too old to lose my time with imperfect recreations of real life, I should go out from the platonic cave and reach my goals. It doesn't matter I have 4k hours wasted in Gran Turismo, it doesn't matter that I have 4 consoles, all of them wasted my precious time that I'll never get back, time that could've been spent on workouts and better grades at school/college. Anyway, I'm gonna quit for 90 days and after that I'll se if I want to sell all that gaming junk. I'm too old for this.

Always stressing about not having enough time to game. At least I am in touch with my other hobbies like running, and growing carnivorous plants. Maybe I should just eliminate time wasters. Because while typing this my mind already went back to gaming and to replace it with board games such as building a puzzle, which could also end up taking days of hours of my time.

I played 1,802 hours on Steam, holy! Didn't realize it was that much time I wasted, was assumed something like 600 hours before I checked. This is a really interesting story sharing, guess I'll work on accepting boredom in my life, and figure out what to do next. The thinking of what are you getting from video games is also amazing, yes, games can make you have faster reaction time, computer skills, etc. but where you're going. to apply it? Wouldn't it be more effective if you worked on the things you dedicated to improve? Thanks for sharing this awesome episode!

Don't accept boredom, fill that time with actual productivity. There's literally ALWAYS things to do and 99.9% of those things are more important than videogames. Honestly a lot of young people complain about their financial opportunities these days, but there's so much time you could be using your young mind/body to earn money. You have SO much energy in your youth and many just waste theirs playing games.

Gaming is a huge time sink and this becomes apparent once you consider the opportunity cost. I had a similar wake up call represented by the amount of hours I had spent playing one particular game (FIFA 20) for me it was about 1000 hours and I had nothing to show for all that time. I'm sure I don't even remember 1% of that experience and can't even say that "at least I had fun." Nope, not really. Overall most modern games contain too many chores to do, too much grinding and ultimately the activity is not a good use of time for most adults. At a certain point it's time to analyze if you can still justify gaming and for most adults the answer will be NO. Unless you're talking about very short games or some sort of interactive movies, then maybe it's fine from time to time. I still think about those 1000 hours wasted and what I could've done with them. Not even talking about productive activities necessarily, but I could've read so many books, watched so many movies or tv shows, practiced instruments, put in hours into learning a language etc. ALL of that COMBINED! But instead I played FIFA for 1000 hours like a child, even though I was 25 at the time. What a waste... it wasn't even fun anyway.

@@thegwynbleidd4202 The biggest issue with most video games is that they take way too much time. It's essentially a SUPER hobby, it devours your time. Of course there are exceptions. Maybe some narrative games are relatively short or even if they are long, the story they tell and the medium used might make the experience overall worthwhile. I get it. But in general, if you value your time or if your other responsibilities don't leave you with much spare time then you need to prioritize your hobbies. Unfortunately, video games are too time consuming (in general) to win a fight against movies, books, theatre etc. for relaxation purposes. I don't believe finding an exception would prove this point wrong. Sure, if you find some rare interesting story rich game that respects your time then go for it. But, if we're being honest, it's easier to stick to less demanding hobbies. At least this is my perspective, to each their own.

I think if you look on the surface of this industry you might think that it’s full of the negatives you mentioned but the more you dig, the more you realize the true value of the interactive art.

@@thegwynbleidd4202 do you actually believe books can waste time the same way video games do? or are you just trying to hold on to your gaming addiction by winning an online argument? i personally only read religious books and i don’t even do it for pleasure purposes i view it as “study sessions”, movies are a waste of time as well but guess what? movies end after 2 hours not 200hours. notice how you will never watch a movie and in the middle of the movie you will be asked to pay more money in order to keep watching or skip a boring character arc, because altho movies ARE a waste of time, but it actually thinks of itself as a genuine art form and it takes pride in that, gaming however will shamelessly keep asking the player for money every single chance it gets because its not art its more of a mental trap where the more addicted you are the more money they try to milk out of you. it’s pathetic and insulting to my intelligence. just because some loser internet influencer keeps promoting video games while maintaining a facade of someone who has his life together (girlfriend, income, healthy physique, etc) doesn’t mean that he’s not a complete moral degenerate 99% of the time. men don’t respond very well to kindness, we’re too defensive and we see kindness as either weakness or deceit, that’s why i had to completely destroy your argument and dunk on you like that so that maybe i can shatter this defensive attitude you got going on and hopefully my harsh yet helpful advice can get to you. good luck.
