This is honestly the most awfully written part of the show that came completely out of nowhere and the only way I can fathom its existence is if Death planned for this to happen all along and is making a comeback in the finale. Death knew how far these two characters go for one another, that's the entire reason why he's trying to get rid of Sam in the first place, but then for some reason he just completely forgets about this small detail and gives Dean his scythe, stands within striking range and thinks, "Now I know how far the two of you go for each other, but could you pretty please kill Sammy for me Dean?" I'll be extremely disappointed if Death doesn't make a return at some point this season.

I was always confused that in the fifth season, Death had a sickle as his weapon, and in the tenth (?) season he gives Dean a scythe. Did the authors forget what weapons their character had? For a long time I was hoping that maybe the scythe is just a fake, that Death's death is just his “test”, but it seems that this is really the most stupid moment in the show.

On whether Dean was in fact trying to kill Sam or Death over the years but that's finally been answered. Billie, aka the new Death announces in Season 15, Episode 18 that it was in fact Sam, that Dean was going to kill in this scene. So to answer your question. When Dean says "Forgive me to Sam" He generally was going to kill him. Ouchhh...

You know what all of us may have missed something. In the original episode for death not the one where he arrives in the car. Bobby stated they keep him 6ft under. Lucifer had to do a ritual to summon him up. A sacrifice of hundreds or thousands of human souls and some demons. What is jack doing killing Angel's who consume human souls and have been at it for a very long time. If death is the angel of death then he cant be destroyed, he's back to being 6ft under asleep. Now what Billie is doing is very clear, why she is in the empty where the angels go when they die. No normal voice could wake him up like castiel or lucifer. But a god level voice probably could, what is jack trying to do become as power as god. Now you have what you need jack to wake him and a ritual to return him to earth.

But with that dumb rule they made up it should have at least been Tessa since she was the first Reaper with personality and we've known her since 'In my time of Dying' So she would be a lot more easy to get on board with at least. Kripke's Death, Absolutely, bro. Built him up perfectly and got the casting dead on (Pun intended) I've seen representations of Death on shows that came before SPN and ours is the Definitive Grim reaper and Kripke genius that he is laid the ground work for Jullien. We both know that with the exception of Season 11 6 and 7 are the best post Kripke seasons and in S6 and 7 Death was used pretty much as well as Kripke used him but then we got this! I suppose wanting our show to go on as long as possible does come with some bad times but who the hell signed off on killing him? They need a smack, My friend. And another great point as much as it sucked just leave him to rest because no one could possibly ever replace him.

Death in my opinion should be the only entity that cannot be killed or die. Maybe cast away with a powerful enough spell for the sake of plot armor, but can never be killed or die by any means. If his character was truly playing DEATH one of the FOUR HORSEMEN of the apocalypse (which is literally the embodiment of death itself) then in theory if u were so called able to somehow kill Death. I feel as though every single thing that has life including entity and non-entity should be able to live forever for all eternity without no fear of death. Bottom line DEATH cannot be killed. Death is the only entity that should not be considered among the living or the dead. He is "DEATH". I don't think the writers truly grasp what Death really is.

Yea. I originally thought that that they killed off old man death because the actor playing him is... old, and the character should stay until the last season so it might be health reasons. Turns out the actor's still in his 60s 😬 it really was a bad call from the writers though, they could've ended the arc so much better than having to kill a perfectly strong character

Death saw14,000,605 possible futures and in only one of them they defeat God is by sacrificing himself. Ps: I know in the Marvel universe one can't see past the events past their own deaths. Eg. The Ancient One couldn't see past her own death with the time stone. But this is supernatural universe so it's different.

Honestly this whole scene was kind of silly. It’s like the writers wanted to do a Cain and Abel thing but didn’t know how to get there in the writing, because while Dean got out of control once in a while, when he was driven to violence, he never once displayed the level of desperation that would make me believe that this whole “kill anyone, especially Sam, to make it go away” was ever on the table.
