She is a selfless person, but she wasn’t selfless to Will because he was rich. She was selfless to him because she brought him joy, and he loved her for who she was, not what she could give him.

But when the person who she was a caretaker for expressed that he still couldn’t live a full life and couldn’t do it anymore she was the one who was being selfish for not to want to let him go. Full body paralysis is something that everyone can say they could live with until they experience it. And even then while some can many can’t and euthanasia is the only humane thing to do. You do not get to decide that for anybody else just because you think you could “love them enough”.? Even Bertram Fillcot made some quote about how when our animals who we’ve taken such good care are in pain or dying… why can’t we alleviate the suffering of our loved ones

The books are amazing. It’s a trilogy. I recommend reading the first book and seeing the full movie. I saw it in the theater and I went on a special evening to see it as a treat for myself a couple years after my divorce. And there was this group of women who sat in front of me who clearly didn’t read the book who talked through the movie and ruined it. So I got the digital version as soon as I could and had a good cry.

I think the idea is that the women are usually at a low point at the beginning and that makes them easy prey for men who just use them and bleed them dry. A good romcom will also usually be about the women realizing her worth. But this trope is rarely done correctly so it can definitely make one cringe. Though I think this movie did it well

She has been neglecting her relationship for work that for the longest time she didn't like at all, is gaslighting her boyfriend about what is going on between the two of them, and clearly emotionally cheating on him. Just because it's from her view, does not mean everything she does is right. Actually, every single short I see of her makes it very clear that she's the jerk, except the music trying to smooth it out

@@ang5798 I definitely agree that she did have feelings and should have broken up with her boyfriend a long time ago but the movie (and book) makes sure you realize she should’ve broken up with him long ago because he’s not a great boyfriend. So they both messed up. But I think her emotions were there but I don’t think in actions she really stepped outside of caretaker until after the breakup unless I’m misremembering, but you are right, she should’ve already broken things off with her boyfriend.
