Thanks for making this Mike. You simplified a lot of confusing information about setting up the OM1 for video. There really isn't anything as good as this about it. Appreciate it.

Thank you for going through the OM1 video settings Mike, it clarified some of the menu settings for me. Regarding the shutter speed, I think you might notice the difference when using a higher shutter speed when recording scenes with running water. In my experience, higher shutter speeds result in splashing water having an unnatural appearance.

I love that you explain what you know and why you use it, but are happy to say what you don’t understand. All these numbers, LUTs etc just confuse me. I have a G9ii and when occasionally videoing I often use 1080p, 60p seems to work for me 🤷🏻♀️. The S&Q on the selector is useful once set up.

Hi! I will let myself put forward few suggestions as I know few things about video. In OM-1 (both) all 4K60p modes as well as 4K30p 8-bit is obtained differently than 4K 30p 10-bit which provide ultimate image quality, which would be best for singing birds that you cannot slow down anyway. Other modes are much less detialed and I can see a difference on a big 4K+ monitor. Also log footage provides better dynamic range - skies (but also white parts of plumage of black-white birds) are not so blown out, which looks infinitely more pleasing and professional. On OM-1 I would highly recommend using 4K30p 10-bit for singing birds. But to be honest my heart bleeds knowing that you posses G9II and yet film birds with OM-1. G9II has 5.7K60p that looks amazing, it has wonderfull DR, its Rec.709 LUT looks very well and is very easy to grade. You can slow down a footage that looks truely professional. Not to mention it has 4K120p that looks magnificent. Perhaps the best of all hybrid cameras on the market across all brands and sensor sizes. And it has 300p in FullHD. I own both cameras and frankly speaking G9II is far superior in almost every way stills or movie in nearly every scenario except maybe for the fastest action stills where is presents a little more rolling shutter and grabs focus a little slower.

I wish someone with knowledge would put up a simple to understand video about using LUTs with OM-1. From camera settings to grading. I've tried but get so confused I've reverted to the same settings as Mike uses as standard. Thanks Mike for another useful and informative video. Your methodology as a teacher is top class; clear, concise and complete.

@@cdof5981 I doubt it will ever happen. OM-1 is rarely used for professional video makers. The proces is relatively straightforward, though. First you have to record in LOG profile, which is default if you set 10-bit footage on OM-1. Second you have to import your footage to your video editor, which for most users would be Davinci Resolve Studio. Third, applying LUT is like three cliks. Right on the file, and with left button you choose Olympus->LOG to Rec.709. Fourth is the tricky part which is adjusting exposure, shadows, highlights, contrast, color etc. to your taste. The problem is that in OM-1 the footage may need more grading to get the desired look.

Thanks for all your great videos Mike. You might have addressed this somewhere but how do you feel the OM1.2 video autofocus compares to the G9ii? I know you liked the Lumix over the original OM-1 for video of birds in motion...has the OM1.2 been improved much?
@MikeLaneFRPS3 ай бұрын
In Video mode the OM-1 Mk2 improved a lot. It is on a par with the Lumix G9 mk2. I sometimes think the Lumix is marginally better, but it is a close call and hard to judge. However, the Lumix will AF at 120 fps which the OM-1 does not.

Hello I have the OM1 and the configuration and in the camera I have the first memory card for photos and the second for videos. How can I view the videos? On the Om1 E-m1x it was easy. Thanks
@MikeLaneFRPSАй бұрын
Not something I do, but in the same menu as where you set this up (wench tool, page 1) you can select the third line down to tell it which card slot to play back.

Thanks mike, i keep thinking i should do video so I'll try these settings. I'm a olympus/OM 1 user with pro lenses i edit with olympus workspace first to edit the rubbish then into Lightroom cc to define what's left. But what program or editing do you use for putting together video's, could you do a video about it there's hundreds about photos but video's especially OM/olympus. Thankyou Peter.

I use Powerdirector. Much easier to use than the well known Adobe Premier etc. On KZbin "PowerDirector University" does lots of films on it, much better than I could, although I wish he did not use a silly voice.

Hi Mike and thanks for the tutoriel! When you do sound with the shotgun-mike do manage to get stereo-sound like the internal mics have? The internal mics also capture noise from the cooling fan so they are useless in wildlife video's. I have the OM1 mk1. Have tryed 2-3 shotgun mics but they all give mono-sound..

Have I misunderstood you with regard to the 180deg rule? You are shooting 4K 60fps - therefore your shutter speed should be 1/120sec and not 25fps x2 1/50sec...
@MikeLaneFRPS3 ай бұрын
Not sure if I said something wrong in the film, but it is double the frame rate. 60 fps = 1/120th and 25 fps = 1/50th

Hi Mike. I much prefer the image quality of the g9 ii when shooting video. Unfortunately om system with video is not convincing at all. There is a fierce competition out there and they still offer video codecs that are unwatchable in full hd and barely decent in 4k. With a rather disappointing video AF.
