This type of content solidifies why you are one of my favorite youtube channels. Not only are your tutorials EXTREMELY well done and helpful, but you show stuff like this, and I appreciate it so much! As someone who only recently got into unraid, I've obviously had a fair share of mishaps, and I truly appreciate you showing this content. Keep up the great work!!

A humanoid Cylon would not have made that mistake, so you clearly are human and I really appreciate you showing us the steps you went through. Shows that even in what is first thought as a royal pain to recover from, you CAN recover from it and move on. It also encouraged me to move from once a month appdata backups to weeklies.

Do you have a video about converting xfs to zfs and/or is it worth it (especially for cache pool devices)?

Hi Brian. I will be having a whole load of videos on zfs on Unraid now its officially supported (although it was available through a plugin before - but natively we can use in pools and the array) Its very hard to say should you convert pools etc to zfs or not as it has pros and cons. I will go into that in the upcoming videos. Thanks for watching :)

Hi! What do you think about using BTRFS as a main array with parity ? Is it enough reliable to save there all data ? I would like to have rebuild flexibility and checksums .... so ZFS won't give me this flexibility.
@firatguven6592 Жыл бұрын
Do you think that mirroring or a parity disk has rescued the data resp. reverted your pool? I am afraid something happened here, even with a parity the pool would be death. My main pool is consisting of 4 x 8TB U.2 Z0 pool, since I didn't wanted to loose the additional expensive space. All my data is being synchronized with a qnap nas immediately, so that I would loose in such case only the data in RAM. I must mention that I needed to close the system in the past also by switching off which should be very similar to your case because the array did not wanted stop or similar problems in the past but I have never loose my pool. Otherwise I would change immediately to a normal Z pool with one parity.

Some of us have been running the ZFS plugin for a long time. Is there an upgrade path to the built in ZFS in 6.12?
@Narueschke Жыл бұрын
Hope you will do some kind of migration tutorial for dummys when 6.12. launches, I know you have done some videos on the plugins that supported unraid or how you did a setup with true/freenas. But migrating from scratch would be nice like how to set up the pools when you have ssds or hard drives and how you would handle caching - would you still use the brtfs stuff?

As dreadful as losing my appdata would be (well, not really, I have it backed up in multiple places) there are some config things I'd love to change and rebuilding my appdata from scratch would be a good time to do it. And doing that kind of stuff is just fun.

This happened to me a few days ago after a power outage. What worked for me was stopping the array, unassign my cache pool devices, start the array without the cache pool devices, stop the array, assign the cache pool devices and start the array.

Great video as always. Why rsync and not zfs send receive? Has it been implemented with unraid 6.12?
@SpaceinvaderOne Жыл бұрын
The backup I had was just on an xfs disk on the array. Originally the appdata was on an ssd cache pool (not zfs). I was lucky enough to be able to use some test versions of Unraid 6.12 before the public rc. So i needed to move the data off the existing cache pools so i could format them and create some zfs pools. So i put the backups on the array. i named it zfs backup as it was a backup to be restored onto the new zpools. So yes. Had to use rsync as that share was xfs. Hope that makes sense :)
@philippemiller4740 Жыл бұрын
@@SpaceinvaderOne Totally does :) Thanks for your videos by the way! It helped me so much over the years with unraid. I am using open-zfs now on unraid. @SpaceinvaderOne Жыл бұрын
Hey Tom! So, thats another story. I didn't realize I had added anything to Bitwarden since the that appdata backup. However when I tried to login to Twitter after uploading the video to tweet about it, I couldn't get in because I had enabled TOTP with Bitwarden. So, I had to act fast! I shut down the container, grabbed my phone before it could sync, and exported the vault json file. I then started up Bitwarden again and imported the file. Phew, that was a close one! It seems like this week just isn't going my way.
