I Lost Guapo!

I screwed up and forgot that I had let Guapo, my Cuban rock iguana, roam free. Now he's lost and we have no idea where he is. To lose him after all of that work rehabilitating him back from his injuries is absolutely heartbreaking!

The fact that you made this video when you could have acted like it never happened to us is HUGE because it really does happen to everyone that keeps animals, the more you have the greater the chances for sure!! I live in Ontario Canada and lost my 44 year old red foot that I have had since I was 4 years old (totally my fault) in late August(upcoming frost dates). By the grace of God I found her BUT I feel your panic, pain and RELIEF! But please don't say you'll never let them out again. Guapo loves sunning himself on the patio! I just made a new plan for letting Tony out. I use a timer that MUST be turned off manually to remind me that I have her out and she wears a fluorescent sleeve for visibility. I'm so glad you found him. I feel your pain. It happens to the best of us!

He said he will never let this happen again, and won't leave an Animal of his unattended, when he is letting him walk outside around. I had the same thought, or a checklist, when he brings him outside, he needs to check it off, when he brings him inside again.

Kenan just some helpful advice..... buy a pack of those bracelets that look like the old telephone ☎️ cords they kinda look like a slinky. Put one on each enclosure and when you unlock it you put the bracelet on ur wrist. You only take it off when ur locking the enclosure back up. Hope it helps. Sucks getting old man. I'm only 53 and I forget everything!!!!

My lovebird flew out my backdoor a few years ago but luckily he is recalled trained and liked spray millet so he flew back to me after a few laps around my backyard. I was stressed and felt guilt as well. Hugs!

Thanks for keeping it real, Kenan! We have a leash trained cat, but in his old age he doesn't need the leash anymore, he just follows the same pattern.... and I was in a hurry and drove off. I felt like I had left a child in the car or something, it was horrible. I didn't find out until I got back that I had done it. My neighbors and partner noticed and brought him in about 2 hours later - he had been laying on the front step, patiently waiting for us to let him in. Omg this boy is SO good. But a horrible feeling for sure!

People that say adhd gets less severe when you get older... do not have adhd and have never met someone with adhd. As an adhd adult, it gets worse. 😂 I forgot one of my snakes in a bag I put him in for feeding so he wouldnt fight with his mate. I went to make tea, and two hours later I remembered the snake in the feeding bag. Sorry Nova! 😅

This happened to my marginated tortoise Corban years ago. I lost him for 24 hours. I was worried sick. I posted in Nextdoor app and my neighbor 5 doors down found him under her car completely fine. I was so relieved I cried tears of joy. Don’t beat yourself up. You were letting him roam free which he deserves. Mistakes happen and clearly you are a great reptile keeper. When one of anyone’s companion animals goes missing it’s the most guilt full desperate feelings that we experience. We love our critters like no other, we know all their favorite haunts/activities/habits. I watched the episode where you had Guapo out of his cage for a little “walk” thinking surely he didn’t go far, and was recaged shortly there after. Kenan, you are such a responsible animal owner, however, you too are a human being. I am a Parrot lady and my biggest fear is to her get lost and get grabbed by a predator too. I can’t imagine with your big property how panicked you were. We do our best every day to keep them safe but indeed we are not perfect! Thank you for letting us know that you found Guapo in good shape and indeed you are human too!

I did the same exact thing with my Sulcata! That scared feeling is the worst! But she’s safe and I found her a couple hours later but I couldn’t believe how far and quickly she walked in that amount of time.. don’t feel bad buddy, accidents happen and I’m glad Guapo is home safe!

I did notice that in the last video mate and hoped you just went back to put him away. Don't beat yourself up too much especially as he was found safe and well. Yet as I often say about myself and to myself, we are never too old to learn. Indeed we even have to be reminded at times to be 'aware' and double check our actions which I find I often have to do. Take a breath and put it down to a 'senior' moment as you are now 50 after all (I am 64 so I can say that lol) ;)

Just as you'll never, ever forget to make certain Slinky is safe during cold weather, you'll never, ever forget to put Guapo and other animals back in their habitats when you've let them out. Whether the chance is given by human error, or by happening to escape their enclosures. If people don't understand that things like this happen, they have never owned animals for long!

Anyone who says they have never made a potentially catastrophic mistake with their animals is just unaware of how close they've come. We all make little mistakes every day and often it works out. The other safe things we do keep it from becoming a disaster. Sometimes though everything falls out wrong. You made a mistake but you won't make it again. Hey Kennan u need to change all your latches and put self closing hinges on all your all your doors that would be a big help to us even putting a spring on your hinge sides I build fences in Cali so the latches u have on slinks enclosure work well but they sell self closing hinges at home depot decently cheap
