In 2016 I lost my first engineering job. It was my fault due to poor performance. I was the only one let go. You're in a much better spot than I was. Severance, a growing youtube channel, no wife and kids to support. Years from now I think you'll be proud at how well you've handed this situation.

How did you handle it afterward? Right now, I'm an intern at a big company, but since I put university over work my performance has been quite poor and I am afraid that they will not hire me as a full-time employee when I receive my degree.

@@me_hanics In my experience, it’s not what u know, it’s who u know. Eg. My uncle was 2 yrs into a bs @ Princeton, briefly connected w a nasa rep after a lecture one day, 2 months later the Apollo Mission was announced. So he knocked on nasa’s door, was initially rejected, then asked for that same rep & was immediately hired to calculate the inner & outer module thermodynamics. Internships & jobs are all temporary. In the end, no one really cares about your gpa (as long as it’s decent). They care more about u & your value. And the more u invest in networking + connecting w peeps = the more success u will have in life.

I have undergone through a similar situation to yours 2 times this year and even though I graduated at the start of 2022 with BE (Structural). My first engineering company went bankrupt so they had to let go off me and the second company was sold and downsized and they had to let go off me as well because I was a graduate with least experience in the firm. Now am into my third company and doing really well, learning a lot and becoming more valuable as I gain more experience but I have felt the same devastating emotions after spending months of self study and overtime in my previous companies because I loved it so much and the fact that I was new to the industry hence gaining as much knowledge was a must to thrive in the industry during this volatile market activities occurring. I am grateful to have kept going this far even though I am fully burnt out and my soul drained dry, focusing on other things have eased up the stress by quite a mile but I won’t lie, it’s not that easy and its a long struggle. I think this is common for younger new grads they put in a lot of time and kind of prioritize the job above all else the same way you prioritize your studies in uni. But The real world is not like school. I think it takes some more experience in life to realize what’s really important which is family friends etc . At that point you start going to work put in your hours then go home. If you want to further your skills go home and work on your own side projects etc. the world is a cold place and for companies money is money business is business, don’t sacrifice your life for them.

"When life breaks...There's nothing more powerful than a person rebuilding themselves" Tamer, the sincerity and the experiences you shared to help others go through different stages in their S.T.E.M career that people do not traditionally post have made an incredible impact in the community. Sorry to hear about this one bro...big hugs. Even if it was a mistake on your end, you still have my support as that's part of being human. You have demonstrated such unconventional character and wisdom than many of the masses. I once lived in Markham where 95% of the people were pretentious/fakes who went to UW comp sci or eng and only posted their highlights (i.e DECA medals, Engineering Internships, awards) while concealing their academic strategies, or their negative failures/circumstances. They were smart, but they were extrinsically programmed hyper-competitive cynics who really cared about imposing their superior image among others and only doing engineering thinking that they would be the next Elon Musk to become a billionaire and among the world's elite through a technological breakthrough. While that fortune is very improbable but not impossible, you are on a much stronger path to becoming a world elite whether you are recognized or not, through your dedication to engineering and ambition to make the world a better place through your innovations and hard work. I'm not saying this to just give hope when there is a loss. I actually can sense a brighter vision on the horizon if you keep up your great work. If it becomes challenging to balance both career changes and youtube at this time, by all means, take a break and take good care of yourself. Then, whenever you feel ready you can always return back and I, and with all hopes, your fellow followers will be there to support you. Wishing you all the best with this adjustment as we await for your revival to see your ship sail stronger through this rough storm and into the beautiful waters that lie ahead.

I've gone through two workforce reduction layoffs. First time was really shocking as I had devoted 7 years to that company, but like you, I learned that no company deserves your all. I also learned that more and better opportunities open up, most importantly you gain your time back and then can work on things that got neglected from devoting your life to a company. That first lay off gave me the motivation to go from part time to full time student and finish my bachelor's degree then a master's degree. You'll do great man, chin up, and enjoy this new beginning. I'm glad you are learning these important lessons way sooner in your career, as it will help you value work life balance much better.

Don’t feel bad, I couldn’t even find a job as a brand new Chem E grad, and my grades were excellent, I had tons of recommendations and still no dice. But it was my fault for going into a field that is pretty much dead nowadays. I ended up going back to school for nursing and haven’t had any issues finding work that’s for sure, the pay & demand is much better. I wasted a lot of time and effort and I was angry for years afterwards but there’s always a silver lining, I start my anesthesia program in the spring and will be on my way to becoming a nurse anesthetist, I’d highly recommend it to anyone interested in STEM but unsure which direction they should go. The compensation is also one of the highest paying compared to the amount of schooling required.

Hi. I studied Civil Engineering. I just got a job as a Site Engineer. It's so true that you work extra hours just to get the job done but get paid only fixed amount of hours. It's really overwhelming. I appreciate this video because it's real. Most people only have an outside perspective on ''Engineers''. Thank you for reminding me to have a life outside of my job and actually do the things that I love. It's hard when you're constantly thinking about the next tasks at hand. Anyway, I really hope that this is a blessing in disguise for you and I wish that you get something that you truly deserve. Lost my job in August, was exactly like you, my entire life was revolving around work and it was my life, the up, and downs. But because of it I was able to go travelling, yesterday I finished a 3 month trip around the world, a trip I would never have been able to do working, I am thankful that I did save and I was in the financial state where I was able to do it but regardless these next couple months will be the start of your next chapter :)

Don't worry Tamer, as you said these things happen and its sometimes not even our fault. Always remember that everything happens for the best and i'm sure you will end up successful in the end. Also pls never be upset at loving your job and what you do, most people won't work 12 or 16 hour work days and that fact that you did shows how passionate you are. Keep going bro, rooting for you.

Sorry for your loss my friend. I know exactly how you feel as I was laid off twice this year. It's tough out there but keep pushing through, you will do well.

Hey Tamer I've been watching your videos since when I graduated and I lost my job for the same reason in June 2022. I worked for a medium-sized company and they let me go after I finished a big maintenance project due to budget cuts and because the company was going in a different direction but the experience I gained from that job helped me get a job at a major engineering company and I start on December 1st. As an engineer, I aim to be just like you, and honestly, I'm in no way close to how organized and passionate you are so dw when one bridge closes another one will open! Your a big role model to me so honestly I have no doubt that you will find something great! 👊🏽

Lol bro, word for word, everything you said happened to me as well. Hired as an iOS engineer at a small edutech company. Worked there for about 10 months, and myself amongst others were abruptly let go. Right when I was getting the opportunity to build something from scratch too. Super sad but we keep it moving.
